Wasn't a knock on those specifically. Yours don't seem any worse than others I've seen before, I just don't get the appeal to begin with.

That's nice to know. Even though it's meant to be a more serious retelling of Koha-Ace, figures that it's important to put the word out since the familiar story elements might make things more complicated than what they really are.
The suggestion does make me wonder how much free reign the author intends to have with the setting though, since the premise is already pretty departure.

ED: Also, I've been thinking this for a while but I want it put to paper (or silicon, as it were) that I'm betting Kanata's whole "time travel" deal isn't actually time travel at all.

shit BL says
Once and always and nevermore.
In a Grail War, Servants generally don’t want anyone to know who they are. Ryouma himself speaks in standard Japanese because his Tosa dialect would make him too easily recognizable. Izou, on the other hand, clearly can’t be assed to fake a more neutral accent, so instead of hiding his thick Tosa-dialect, he chose to cleverly justify by lying that he’s Ryouma. No idea why Saber tho. Assassin Ryouma is not all that implausible.
Granted, but most we've seen in HGW's so far is Servants playing coy with their identities, like Artoria did in the F/SN prologue (only exception that comes to mind is Zero and Berserkalot using For Someone's Glory, which wasn't so much about hiding his identity as about throwing off pursuit). I can't remember a case of a Servant outright lying about his identity before, and lying about their class is completely useless (since Masters can see the enemy Servant's class and general stats).

There's more to it as well, of course: Izou kind of hates Ryouma's guts, and is also kind of in the Mysterious Heroine X meme area where he would prefer being a Saber to an Assassin.
But mostly it's probably the thing where Ryouma could be a person you could reasonably attempt to have a peaceful conversation with whereas Izou is a somewhat ruthless serial killer.
In part is also a call back to the original story, Keikenchi first introduced Izou as Saber Ryouma then took his time to actually tell the HGW story, so for a couple years we were left believing he was "Saber Ryouma(?)" until the actual Ryouma debuted and call out the hoax

When the first chapter got out, Keikenchi tweeted about being in charge of the setting, characters, etc. of the story. So is hard to tell how much free reign the mangaka has and so far the story hasn't really deviate from the original script, all events still going as far as the original story with only added scenes or plot elements (the time travel, the oc masters and the carnage scenes to set the tone of the story)
If it isn't time travel, do you have any ideas as to what it might be?
The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is that Kanata could've been somehow pulled into a recreation of the light novel's events, and Tsukumo is some sort of a response to his latent feelings of loss about his grandmother's death. Or the hourglass is a mystic code that recorded Tsukumo's experiences and activating it inserted Kanata into her memories? Or something like that.
Hoo boy, Kanata is having a real bad time in the latest chapter. Tsukumo too. I guess Redline is taking the Marty McFly approach with paradoxes.
Well, here's Okita's excuse to tolerate Tsukumo.
Jesus. Hopefully she can get some prosthetics made. And to stem the blood loss.
And what, are some severed fingers really going to cause Kanata to disappear Marty McFly style? The story doesn't strike me as one where Tsukumo will die early.
I think it's just to serve as a warning that "Your existence is uncertain if you don't get her to a safe place"
Regardless my favourite thing about redline is all the people clamouring for an anime when we are not even 5 chapters in
Kanata might have the most realistic reaction to a Grail War of any Fate MC lmao. Nah but I really feel for the guy, I'd be handling it the same.
Hes surprisingly scary in this manga. I'm not used to it honestly and I'm unsure what to think
Considering how savvy Kanata is regarding time travel some chapters back, wouldn't be surprising if he correctly guesses Tsukumo's in danger based on his condition and immediately CS Okita to her side.
