In less incestous notes, it's possible that Kanata's slow down magecraft was meant to be a perfect counter to Maxwell's Demon, considering the final boss of this story will be a product of his Maxwell's NP. Even if it's not used as the solution to beating Max, I still believe that specific ability was chosen to set the two character as foils. Looking forward to see how this interaction goes.
Though if half the novel got torn out, I wonder if there'll at least still be some parts past the train encounter that can help
