Bedivere at the time wasn't a Servant. And in a less nitpicky note, he wasn't a part of a Holy Grail War, he was concealing his identity for completely different reasons.

If it isn't time travel, do you have any ideas as to what it might be?

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is that Kanata could've been somehow pulled into a recreation of the light novel's events, and Tsukumo is some sort of a response to his latent feelings of loss about his grandmother's death. Or the hourglass is a mystic code that recorded Tsukumo's experiences and activating it inserted Kanata into her memories? Or something like that.

Well, before this chapter I was thinking one of those "time travel but not really" things, like having somehow Rayshifted into a Singularity or some kind of alternate pruned timeline. But since this chapter establishes Tsukumo really is his grandmother from a linear timeline leading to his birth (or, at least, her well-being is somehow intrinsically tied to his)... I don't know. Current FGO/Extella lore Re: parallel worlds and timelines is just a confusing mess to me.

I'm honestly not getting any time paradox vibes out of this. Things seem a lot simpler with Tsukumo just being Kanata's anchor to this era. Tsukumo her fingers, Kanata's fingers fade away. Tsukumo dies, Kanata dies. It's a reasonable condition for something made by Tsukumo and it fits in both with the possibility of real time travel and the possibility of this manga being a Lostbelt Tsukumo created.

Kanata might have the most realistic reaction to a Grail War of any Fate MC lmao. Nah but I really feel for the guy, I'd be handling it the same.

Honestly Kanata has an interesting choice when this whole ordeal is over. Does he goes back to the present or does he stay in the past? Of course it'll probably the latter due to circumstances (all of them probably have to do with gran gran) but it's an interesting decision. Mean the Kanata that is post Redline grail war will be way different than the Kanata we meet at the beginning.

He'll be more cold, ruthless, and kinda more adventures. Mean does someone like that really wants to go back to school and just live a mediocre life? And honestly I would like Kanata make that choice without any plot consequences like "oh you can go back to past but you leave your grandma/servant in danger" or "you have to stay here to maintain a timeline loop" and those two consequence both just kill him anyways if he choice to go back to the present decreasing that major choice.

Well we'll have to wait and see what shape he actually rides out of this war in (If he does survive), but like Comun posted as of his current mentality he had the chance to be someone not-mediocre and he pushed it away with both hands.

This is actually pretty good, I am pleasantly surprised. I'm also glad to see more of nobunaga in a more serious setting. The other characters are pretty interesting too and Saber's skillset is a nice deviation from what we usuallu get.

"Slashy slashy stab stab" isn't really an extensive skillset.

In comparison to other main Servants it is quite different though. Saber's style is not as rapid and she uses magic all the time, Nero is way more flamboyant and Tamamo/Emiya also fight in a completely different way, same thing for Astolfo/Jeanne/Sieg, Charles uses magic and his knight's arsenal, Mash has that huge shield...

This is pretty much the only Servant protagonist we've gotten that is entirely reliant on swordsmanship. The only Japanese swordswoman too. They're really rare outside of FGO.

We haven't gotten a whole lot of stories to draw from, Grand Order aside. Granted Okita is a quintessential swordsman with no magic items or abilities to help her, but she's hardly unique in that regard. Just off the top of my head, Arash fights that way too.
