‘It's not the destination, it's the journey’
The angel of the veil finds a particular quote by a particular philosopher as an essential truth of humanity. It is her reason for refusing certain questions, not from an adherence to some ordinance from her lord nor a sense of duty to the secrets of the divine. After all, after refusing she will point researchers in a particular direction, much to their disbelief. To her, research and discovery go hand in hand, though currently her hints have been incredibly vague and it is estimated that it may be centuries before the answers are even estimated. For this particular reason she has a deep admiration for the modern age, often proclaiming that her lord smiles upon modern achievement. Many times she can be seen researching and attempting new things whether it be learning how to cook, studying gaming rules, or even simply exploring different forms of magecraft even if she is completely incapable of using them. It would seem her ascension into an angel hasn’t stripped her entirely of her humanity… well. Not entirely at least.
Metatron is certainly not human. Her moments and interactions may lead one to think she hasn’t lost it, but there are moments when it is clear. She understands grief but views it in a very mathematical way, often being surprised if someone is grieving outside of what she ‘calculated’. Additionally, she herself is never impacted by death. Perhaps in another form she might be but as she is now death to her simply means a transition of state. From ‘a person’ to ‘a soul’. She understands the act of respecting a soul but not the significance. It is actually this shift in her understanding of death that caused the Mystic Eyes of Death Rejection to be lost to her. Additionally, the concept of Prejudice is entirely foreign to her as noted by misunderstanding the relationship between Magus and regular humans as simply ‘strong humans oppressing weak humans’. This even applies to demons, as she regards them simply as misguided, fallen children of god and fails to understand why they seem to hate angels, god, and their followers. What makes it clear this isn’t simply ignorance is that attempts to try to get her to understand tend to become circular, disjointed, and unintelligible conversations that ultimately result in frustration from both parties. Metatron is simply incapable of understanding Prejudice or Death.
Despite this she generally has a good disposition, trying to get along with even those that many would assume are a natural enemy to her such as demons or tricksters. Instead, she simply subverts their tricks and tries to convince them to change their ways. She seems to have a good relationship with other angels, though she generally seems nervous around other archangels. Her reason for this is that despite being the youngest among them she was made the highest ranking and is slightly nervous regarding their standing among one another. However she refuses to approach or interact with Lucifer. Though, based on the above, it is easy to speculate why. However most of her personality traits disappear during combat or when pursuing a goal. She becomes focused, attentive, and reactive. She will move towards her goal with little deviation, at times even ignoring her own master. Like this, she becomes little more than a machine with the sole purpose of carrying out an objective with no regards to the costs. The thought never crosses Metatrons head. Further, she is fully aware of this trait and does nothing to change it, not seeing a single problem with it. In a sense, it is more evidence of her loss of humanity.
