Creator's notes

It's funny how there's a Henry Plantagenet sheet here, because this one is also a figure from the One Hundred Years Wars... But I swear it's a coincidence! I created her for a RPG, but ended up not using her for a variety of reasons. Still, I liked her concept, so it was always in my mind to eventually revamp her and bring this character here.

There is not many information about her in the internet so I'm afraid you might think she does not have too much basis to begin with... I actually ended up purchasing a book just so I could research her story more. (And I read about all sorts of interesting characters too, so I might be inspired to try them in the future!)

Anyway, this is just meaningless babble in the end. I hope you guys like her!

While in life she was known to be relentless, such is not exactly the case for Servant Avenger; because she had very clear targets in mind that are no longer alive, her resentment is said to be dormant. By no means lighter, but rather, directionless.

Hate is a cold fire that gives no warmth; yet, it burns brighter and stronger than anything. The last insult, it shall never be forgotten, and it shall never be forgiven.

Despite coming from a time where magic no longer retained its mystery, Avenger still recovers a moderate amount of magical energy every turn thanks to that sheer stubbornness in refusing to die a second time before seeing things through to the end.

Lore

At the height of the Hundred Years’ War, one woman gets recognized by History itself in a strange and remarkable kind of way: she was princess Marguerite de Bressieux, and she hunted rapists.


Born as a noblewoman of French origin and of Anjou blood, she was described by her peers as a girl with “the beauty of a swan and the voice of a nightingale.” In a time where war took entire towns by storm, she could only worry about the safety of her father, Georges de Bressieux, and his people as she lived in sheltered protection in her castle. She was said to know when messages from the battlefield came from her father because of her sharp sixth sense, always expecting the news before anyone came by horse to deliver them; the fact would always impress her ladies-in-waiting.

Her happy and innocent days came to an end at one fateful day, when the Sun descended to her fortress, scorching her everything in its wake...

After being hurt in battle, Georges was brought home to heal with a small entourage, leaving much of the soldiers backs in the frontlines. A tactical mistake, his younger self might had noticed, but he was far too old and too scared of death to truly grasp the implications of what he did; nevertheless, upon knowing that, the Prince of Orange, Louis II de Chalon-Arlay, knew that there was no better time to attack. And so, as Marguerite felt something in the wind announcing changes approaching, a siege took the castle by surprise, conquering it in less than a week.

Marguerite watched her father, her tutor, the kind chef who always gave her fresh baked bread whenever she asked for it, the master of arms―and even the young stable boy that dreamed of marry one of her lady in waiting, a fact they shared under the covers as they giggled―have their throats slit and their corpses disrespected as they were trash. She could only tremble in fear as the soldiers, then, turned their eyes to the women and forced them all to endure what she later described as, “the last insult.”


In the year of 1430, Raoul de Gaucourt’s army had just received twelve additional warriors. They all wore helmets adorned with silver tears. When asked to introduce the group, the leader unmasked himself and revealed to be a now adult Marguerite who refused to accept the fate of a captive princess that could be promised (with her lands) as a reward to any good vassal of Louis II, accompanied by the few survivors of her castle’s siege. Burying her parents and leaving all the familiarity behind felt like a lifetime ago, and she now had a clear mission: she asked for no more than to have their justice. They all were gathered under the same banner...

“Though our bodies might be weak, our hearts are strong and bent upon nothing but vengeance. We are victims of the most degrading outrage, and we aspire to wash it out in blood,” she declared, with the same confidence that seized the heart of her women with the most profound admiration.

Raoul, despite recognizing the reality of war―a place made for men, where no women should dare to enter―allowed them to join his forces, and they proved to be formidable allies. During campaigns, they proved their value; and, from time to time, when they recognized a certain soldier from better days, they would unmask themselves before brutally murdering them, so they knew exactly that their sins have finally caught up to them.

When Marguerite’s time finally came and she was mortally wounded in the battlefield, she died surrounded by the women who endured hell with her, who pledged their souls to the same demon. She was later buried with all the military honors reserved to men.

――And yet, her soul knew no peace.

There were still men out there left unpunished.


Louis II died at his castle at Nozeroy on December of 1463. Some believe that, before he closed his eyes for the last time, he could swear he saw, for the briefest of moments, a phantom of his past…

Personal Skills

corruption (avenger): A

The condition of being an Avenger in detriment of any other Class; a hate so strong it seeped into her very core. Because her revenge tale is the sole reason she is a footnote in history, if summoned in a Class different from the one she is supposed to be placed originally, Class Skills are to become corrupted and suffer severe downgrades. It seems that the “Avenger” Class Skill will always be an active Class Skill, no matter where...

Since she is currently in her best Class, this Skill has yet to be activated.


decadent flower: B

If a beautiful princess must be protected, then for a fallen princess what remains is――

Instead of a charismatic nature that brings and attracts people to oneself, hers is a tragic presence that constantly exudes the allure of a rebel soul. She is a romantic figure who went up against all the odds and championed the weak; therefore, it is not a stretch to say that Schadenfreude is a powerful player in the her story, as a girl who had it all and yet, in the end lost everything. She will never be helped, not while her story is the embodiment of all what humanity likes to see: tragedy and despair, loss and resilience, hope and love. The only one who can save her is herself.

Although this Skill seems to attract the amusement of others at her own suffering as if it is her personal brand, it also seems to strangely bring her close to like-minded individuals, rebel souls capable of understanding the true depths of grief; perhaps, that is a reflex of that former group of survivors that she commanded.


sixth sense: C

A variant of the Eye of the Mind personal Skill, but rather than useful only for battle purposes in order to feel the best course of action during a battle as to consider all possibilities to escape from a predicament, this Skill encompasses other properties as well.

As per said in an old anecdote, Avenger was said to feel “the changing tides” coming. As such, it became such a Skill: a form of extrasensory perception that can acquire information by means independent of any previous experience she had. But, naturally, it can only be used passively; i.e., she cannot choose what specific information she will receive from her surroundings. Furthermore, at this Rank, she cannot rationally comprehend the entirety of the information she obtains.


the last insult: A++

The most cowardly, most degrading outrage―this Skill is the crystalized hate of a fallen princess. It can, in a sense, be considered a variant of the Mad Enhancement Class Skill that Berserkers are known for.

When she stands before an enemy who is also a male individual (or one she recognizes as such), her reason blows away, as she will necessarily see them all as “perpetrators.” As her hate gushes out in a flood of primal rage, a surge of power grants a temporary boost to all of Avenger’s Parameters. There is the real possibility that even male allies, should they commit an act that displeases her, will trigger this extreme reaction out of her.

Furthermore, in a proper Holy Grail War, if a Saber Class Servant has yet to be summoned, the hate sublimated by this Skill is so intense that there is a chance that her own existence can become the catalysis necessary to summon a certain man…

“Thus, you shall be.” A cursed promise. A vow for tomorrow.

A Noble Phantasm that that embodies the concept that punishment will always come for those that deserve it, no matter how much time passes.

A single strike from her weapon that is able to sap away the life of a foe with a powerful curse of maleficence―after all, the justice of Men is a feeble-headed, foolish mistress; the justice of the Heavens is absolute, and it demands the fair price to be satisfied… A soul for a soul, a life for a life.

With the strike, as if the enemy is a broken glass that drips water indefinitely, their lifeforce will “return to nothingness.” Despite existing ways of delaying its effects―as in, sucking the lifeforce out of other sources, such as another human being, or being supplied additional Mana, in the case of a Servant―the “leak” is still there, and will never go away. It is a Noble Phantasm that relies in the long-term effects, gradually weakening a foe until he is no more than a despairing husk aware of their own mortality. Justice, after all, is not always swift, but is always cruelly just.

The effects of this attack will linger even after her passing, ensuring that, no matter what, the one that was strike down by her technique will follow her to Hell――this time, surely… All of them will…

Furthermore, it deals increased damage if the target is of the male gender.


Coincidentally, it seems that the original effects of this Noble Phantasm were about the evocation of her army, all of them pseudo-Servants with their own Parameters, that would all deal individual slashes that would together become the curse that weights down on an enemy―but, because Avenger could never disturb the peaceful slumber of her companions, she modified her own trump card so that she would be an one-woman army instead.

A woman of contrasts.

A fallen princess who never lost her majesty.

Despite killing enemies vigorously and relentlessly in the battlefield, her true self is one of a girl with a kind smile and an easygoing personality. That she is still able to feel happiness even after everything, it is a testament of her inner strength―and yet, there is humbleness in her, enough for her to admit that, “she could never do any of that without the support of her friends.” Unabashedly, unashamedly, she proclaims her true feelings whenever fancy strikes her.

With a kindness born from the deepest pain, she shows no empathy or mercy towards enemies―but her allies would always remember her for her smile and her unrelenting faith in them. She is, after all, the woman who arouse those scared and broken survivors and made them into a fine squad.

“Of course I believe in your strength. Aren’t you alive right here, right now? Isn’t that enough proof?”, she asks, because for Avenger, that is a given. If people are alive, they are always changing, and they are always perfecting themselves. Truth to be told, this thought also fills her with the thrill of the hunt, but you shouldn’t dwell too much on it. She’s a weird girl like that…

It also seems that she will always be on guard if her Master is a man… And, as much as she is grateful that her Master is supporting her quest for revenge, she will never let him forget, through her actions, that he is still “a part of the problem.”


If one comes close to her core just enough, they might hear about her true wish: she wants to be forgotten. She only wishes to be free from the grasp of the ghosts of her past. Forgotten by History itself, and perhaps, even by her own Master. A wish born from that single memory, that strange feeling that took home in her heart as she lay dying in the grass―that maybe… Just maybe… There was something else that she...

Such a dirty body, a dirty soul and a disgraced history――those are burdens far too great for a single human being to carry. Despite appearing to be strong, her wish is one of a tired girl who just wants to rest. But, as long as she exists in the memory of the people, she will never attain peace…

“So, if you love me, Master, you’ll let me go.” She still smiles, because this is everything she knows what to do. If she ever stopped smiling, she’d break.

“But do not worry―I will only leave after knowing you are the last man standing.”

It is her solemn promise.

This time, she will not die halfway through.

Genpei War

A major event in Japanese history that occurred during the late stages of the Heian Period (around the 12th Century). A civil war promoted by the Minamoto and Taira clans, fought with the supremacy over Japanese politics at stake.

For decades before the conflict, the Taira clan monopolized a dominant position within the Imperial court. This was in part achieved by the use of their influence to carry out a purge of any political rivals. Such practice made many victims among the Minamoto clan, which naturally created anti-Taira sentiments among its members.

The last drop was the bending of the rules of succession in order to enthrone an Emperor that was aligned with Taira’s interests. This of course incurred the displeasure of not only the Minamoto, but also of other members of the Imperial house. When the Minamoto answered to a call to arms from another candidate to the throne that felt injured by the Taira and sought compensation, a war became inevitable.

Incidentally, although the Taira were ultimately defeated, internal conflict among the Minamoto nearly cost them everything.

Shirabyoushi

A Japanese folkloric dance that originated at some point of the 12th century. Also, the general term for the entertainers who performed such dance. Traditionally performed by women and children, but adult men were also known to play the role of a shirabyoushi on occasion. Although referred as a "folklore", this was a culture more popular among the nobility than the common people.

Shirabyoushi performers were easily recognizable for their outfits, composed by a tate-eboshi hat, white suikan robes and a red hakama (with an optional addition of a kawahori hand fan or a ceremonial tachi sword). Although this attire somewhat resembles that of a male shinto priest, it was equally worn by men and women alike – so this could be regarded as a form of cross-dressing. In addition, shirabyoushi often covered their entire face and neck with a white-colored powder, but that would later cause them to be associated with the geisha, who also wore a similar type of makeup.

Incidentally, it has been said that the origins of the shirabyoushi dance can be traced back to the ancient miko kagura traditions. In the days of old, shinto priestesses would dance before temples and other spiritual grounds in order to invite divine inspiration. Supposedly, these dances were ceremonies to induce a trance and obtain an oracle, but they would occasionally result in a divine possession. There are accounts of the possessed priestesses undergoing some sort of physical transformation, with sex change being counted among the most extreme examples. The cross-dressing of the shirabyoushi would thus be an allusion to such a phenomenon.

Territory Creation: A+
The technical skill to build up an advantageous encampment to oneself as a magus. Thanks to this skill that allows to create in the shortest time a workshop that displays the very best effectiveness on any kind of terrain condition, Caster boasts the greatest advantage in regards to defensive fights among all Servants. At A Rank, it is possible to mold a "temple" that exceeds a workshop.

To be accurate, since the orientation of her magecraft is different, the territory that she creates is something different from a traditional "workshop". Furthermore, hers is something extremely instantaneous: as soon as she begins dancing, her immediate surroundings will be covered by a powerful bounded-field that redefine its interior as “the stage of a shirabyoushi”, “the temple of a dancing priestess”.

Item Construction: E
The technical skill to produce devices that carry magical power. It makes possible to manufacture various tools, from items and mystic codes meant for battle to daily necessities. However, this skill takes time for the production and supply of ingredients. E Rank denotes the proficiency of an apprentice.

The range of items that she can actually manufacture is extremely small, mostly limited to the traditional accessories of a shirabyoushi.

Magic Resistance: B
The capacity to negate or abate the effects of magecraft. Negates magecraft invoked with an aria of three verses or less. It is difficult to injure her even with high-thaumaturgy.

She does not possess this skill.

PERSONAL SKILLS

Goddess Metamorphosis: A+
A skill for metamorphosing from a human to a god. The highest form of Shapeshift. The user receives a festival of powerful buffs upon activation, but there will inevitably be some sort of demerit afterwards. In her case, she will be temporarily rendered out of combat (put in a condition of being on the verge of death).

A possibility hidden deep within the miko kagura arts. Obtaining a more direct form of heavenly assistance by means of divine possession. However, since this depends heavily on the whims of the gods, she has no discretionary control over this skill’s activation and its use only becomes possible after obtaining consecutive successes in LCK checks.

Self-Preservation: C
A talent for avoiding dangerous situations. In exchange for having nearly no fighting strength herself, she can escape from most crises so long her Master is safe.

Shamanism (Medium): A
An idiosyncrasy-like mystery. A Thaumaturgical Foundation rooted on local customs and folklore. Generally regarded as a minor school of magecraft.

Miko kagura. Strictly speaking, rather than a genuine magecraft, this is better described as an art form that incorporated mystery within itself. Although it cannot directly interfere with nature, its capacity of mental interference is high and it works as an extremely powerful fascination effect towards those endowed with Divinity. All the phenomena that Shizuka appears to bring about are in fact being caused by the divine spirits that became enchanted by her dance.

“Shizuyashizu”: B
Verse of longing. The sublimation of the anecdotes regarding her performance at the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. By reciting a poem about a lost love, she can invite feelings of pity from the targets and make them temporarily lose their will to fight.

Shizuka Gozen’s trump card. Artistic beauty that can entice even the heavens (gods). This is both an esoterica of the shirabyoushi・miko kagura dancing arts and a sublimation of the anecdotes about her performance at the Shinsen-en temple.

A weather manipulation ability by means of ceremonial dance. By displaying a performance specifically meant to attract the favor of gods of wind and lightning (Fuujin・Raijin), she can induce all sorts of climate change. Rain is a matter of course, but she can also produce whirlwinds and thunderstorms. Furthermore, by bringing out maximum output and confining it to a relatively small area, it is possible to cause a natural disaster that can level an entire city.

Background

BACKGROUND

Shizuka Gozen. A legendary individual from the late Heian, early Kamakura period of Japan. Extolled as the “greatest shirabyoushi of Japan”, she was also known as a companion of the tragic hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Although her name appears in historical documents such as the “Azuma Kagami”, mentions about her are scarce and lacking in detail so her historicity cannot be fully ascertained.

Shizuka’s exact date of birth is unknown. There are also diverging opinions about her homeland, but a popular theory about her being born in the Tango province earned her a place among the “Seven Princesses of Tango”. At any rate, she supposedly came into this world as the daughter of Iso no Zenji (who is often regarded as one of the founders of the shirabyoushi tradition) and was trained by her mother into a dancer surpassing even herself.

After becoming a fully fledged shirabyoushi, Shizuka moved to the Imperial capital of Kyoto, where she earned a living by performing for nobles during parties and important ceremonies. Despite her outstanding skills, she remained mostly anonymous during this early stage of her career. It would literally take a natural disaster for her to attain fame.

As the story goes, the city of Kyoto once suffered with a long period of dry weather. In order to escape from this dilemma, Retired Emperor Go-Shirakawa gathered 100 monks and 100 shirabyoushi at the temple of Shinsen-en for the sake of performing one large ceremony of rainmaking. The prayers of the monks went unanswered. Out of the 100 shirabyoushi, 99 had danced to exhaustion to no avail. And yet, as soon as Shizuka (the last one left standing) entered the stage and began her performance, heavy clouds appeared in the sky and a gentle shower soon followed. It has been said that, upon seeing such spectacle, Emperor Go-Shirakawa couldn’t help but mutter “is she a child of the gods?”

Later, Shizuka was awesomely rewarded by the Imperial house for her achievement and granted the title of “Best (shirabyoushi) of Japan”. Still, the true turning point of her life had yet to come. One day, she received an offer to join a certain noble’s retinue. Said noble had supposedly witnessed her performance in Shinsen-en and became fascinated by her beauty. The name of the noble was Yoshitsune, the famous general of the Minamoto clan.

Forlorn Feelings

Upon joining Yoshitsune's retinue, Shizuka quickly found her way into his inner circle. Although the exact nature of their relationship is up to debate (popular views regards that she was his favorite concubine, but there are diverging opinions), it is undeniable that she was one of his most trusted confidants – maybe surpassing even that Benkei. They shared happy times together, but those unfortunately were not meant to last.

Soon after the Genpei War, Yoshitsune had a falling out with his brother Yorimoto (the newly appointed Kamakura Shougun) and had to flee the capital in order to avoid the inevitable political purge. Shizuka was among the few retainers who followed after Yoshitsune at first. However, an unfortunate accident caused her to be separated from the rest of the group and captured by the pursuers sent by Yorimoto. She would then be sent back to Kyoto and placed under house arrest.

Time passed and news finally arrived that Yoshitsune had died while trying to avoid capture. Shizuka was of course devastated by this development, but she couldn't openly mourn Yoshitsune's death without incurring Yorimoto's wrath. Before Shizuka could sort out her feelings, an Imperial order came demanding that she danced during the ceremony of reinauguration of the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu temple. Although the logic of it escaped her, the true intentions behind that order was quite evident: now that Yoshitsune was dead, they wanted Shizuka to demonstrate her fealty to the Shogun and his authority.

Refusing an Imperial order was out of question, but her pride and love for Yoshitsune demanded that Shizuka protested against Yorimoto's tyranny in some manner. Thus, when it was her turn to dance at the ceremony, she took the opportunity to sing a poem of her own authorship. Although the meaning of said poem was lost to most, those few privy to her personal circumstances quickly figured out that it was a lamentation for Yoshitsune. Supposedly, Yorimoto became furious at the audacity and wanted to have Shizuka executed on the spot. However, his wife Houjou Masako became sympathetic to her plight as a woman and convinced him to spare her.

Shizuka Gozen's ultimate fate is unknown. Although it is generally accepted that she was eventually released to her mother's custody (thanks in part to both Masako's support and Iso no Zenji's own political influence), there are diverging theories about what happened to her after that. Some say that she returned to her homeland in order to live in peace. Others that she joined a Buddhist temple as a nun, spending the rest of her days mourning Yoshitsune. And others tell that she took her own life as soon as she was free, determined to follow after her beloved in the other world.

The fact that her entire power revolves around enchanting people with her dancing skills, to the point that this is a magecraft in itself, is amazing. (And besides, this picture is so cute ;-; ) This was a good sheet to read.

Divinity(B): The level of one's aptitude as a Divine spirit. Rider is one of four sons from what would come to be interpreted as spirits of directions. She has a human mother, and E-bangishimog ("In the West"), a spirit father.

Trickery(A): A Skill marking the user as pertaining to the Trickster Archetype that is found on a variety of forms around the world. This skill will grant different effects depending on the specifics of the user's legend. In Rider's case, it allows for the nullification of effects like "instinct" or "Discernment of the Poor" and makes it more likely that the enemy will believe her lies and fall for her tricks.

Shapeshift(C): A Skill that refers to both borrowing bodies and appearance change. While Rider is generally portrayed in a human form, she noted as sometimes appearing as a Bird or Rabbit, which grants her this skill.

Mana Burst(Wind)(B): A version of Mana Burst that infuses weapons or the user's body with Magical Energy of the wind element. As Rider is the offspring of a Wind spirit, this skill comes naturally to her.

Rider's first Noble Phantasm, a representation of her unbreakable bond with her adopted brother. It allows her to summon the spirit of a wolf to fight alongside her.
Because of the specifics of her legend, Rider is incapable of summoning the real Chibiabos as his soul belongs in the underworld to which she doesn't have access. However, the Wolf spirit summoned in his place is still a high ranking Phantasmal beast capable of holding against other heroic spirits.
The wolf spirit has various useful skills such as the ability to command water as well as being capable of paralyzing the enemies with his howls, but it seems that he lacks the powers the true Chibiabos would have over the souls of the dead.

Rider's second Noble Phantasm and trump card. Just like the Phoenix is considered to be the strongest being in the skies of the East, so is the Thunderbird herald as the king in the West.
He is considered a Divine Phantasmal Beast and has an amount of mystery so great as to be able to withstand a Rank B Noble Phantasm with only scratches. With the enormous power of their wings, merely flapping them is enough to generate storms capable of blowing away an entire Army.
Furthermore, the Thunderbird, as the name would imply, is capable of summoning powerful divine lightning with their claws and beak, which Rider can combine with her Mana Burst(Wind) to give her attacks great power.

Background

Rider is Nanabozho, sometimes called Wenabozho or Menabozho instead. She is a benevolent culture hero and Trickster figure of the Anishinaabe tribes of North America. She is associated with rabbits and is sometimes referred to as the Great Hare (Misabooz), although she is rarely depicted as taking the physical form of a rabbit.
Rider is the offspring of the West Wind with a human woman and, since her mother died when she was a baby, was raised by her grandmother Nokomis. While she was an only child, Rider had four adopted brothers. The most important of Rider's brother figures is Chibiabos, Rider's inseparable companion.
She was sent to Earth by Gitche Manitou to teach the Ojibwe. One of her first tasks was to name all the plants and animals. Rider is considered to be the inventor of fishing and hieroglyphs and is famous as a shapeshifter and a co-creator of the world.
In one of her adventures, Chibiabos was murdered by water spirits (usually identified as Water Panthers or Horned Serpents), touching off a violent chain of events that included the destruction of the earth by flood. Afterward, Rider accepted that she could not bring her brother back to life, so Chibiabos became ruler of the underworld.

Personality

Rider is a trickster figure and, as such, can be a bit of a rascal. But unlike trickster figures in some tribes, she does not model immoral and seriously inappropriate behavior. Rider is a virtuous hero and a dedicated friend and teacher of humanity.
Though she may behave in mischievous, foolish, and humorous ways in the course of her teaching, Rider would never commit crimes or disrespects Native culture. She is viewed with great respect and affection by Anishinabe people, and retribute this with twice as much affection to the rest of humanity.
While it can be hard to notice, it seems that the main reason for her to allow herself to be summoned is that she still holds some hope she will be able to meet her beloved brother again.

Surpassing Self Modification, it's a skill that reforms oneself. In order to overcome any kind of objective in the way of accomplishing one's goals, they keep evolving in mere seconds. However, it has the demerit of having a lower mark than Self Modification concerning its applicability to anything more than the specialization towards the user's goals. In the case of Ruler, said 'goal' is the pleasing of her Master by any means necessary, more specifically by presentin herself as the 'perfect woman'. In a way, it's an embodiment of the fact that she lacks true 'goals' herself, only existing to make others happy.

A composite Skill that comprises the Skill Divinity, preserves the absoluteness of the mind and the body, repels all mental interference, prevents the body from growth and prevents the figure from change no matter how much calories are absorbed... which has been weakened and overridden somewhat by her Self-Evolution Skill. The objective of 'Suit Master's tastes' takes priority over her existence as an 'Direct Creation of a Goddess', and so she has lowered the rank of this Skill herself in order to allow for the modification of her body if it would please Master.

A Skill similar to Imperial Privilege, brought about due to the nature of her existence. Similar to Self-Evolution, it is out of Ruler's control. It enables her to perform astounding feats outside of what should be possible for her... but only if it would facilitate her becoming Master's 'ideal woman'.

Lore

Galatea was once a statue crafted of ivory by the sculptor Pygmalion, as his 'perfect woman'. On his way home one night, after praying to Aphrodite for a woman to love him, he was approached by prostitutes, disgusting him to his very core. Aphrodite, amused by this man who was both so desperate for a woman's love yet so disgusted by womanhood, decided it was the perfect moment for her to conduct a little 'experiment', though some would call it divine intervention.

Upon returning home, Pygmalion, so pitiful, began to cry and started kissing Galatea, miserable that no woman could match his 'perfect creation'. Soon, however, he realized that Galatea didn't feel like an ivory statue... she felt like she was made of flesh, warm, living flesh. When he pulled himself away and took a good look at her, he realized that she was alive! Aphrodite had given him what he wanted, a 'perfect woman'... by his definition of it. One who was seen, not heard, a gorgeous trophy wife with none of the aspects of womanhood that so disgusted him-- no desires besides pleasing her beloved, no opinions about how pathetic he was... no desires of the sexual nature, and in fact lacking the anatomy with which to act on any desires if they would exist, no need to eat, or sleep, or breathe. A 'perfect' subservient woman, to whom he was now, lest he risk Aphrodite's wrath for not accepting her 'gift', forced to spend his life 'married' to.

It didn't take long for him to regret his lot in life even more than he already had. He was now a laughing stock, 'the man who had to build a wife'. He had to lay there every night, knowing that an emotionless, unthinking being, not a person, was in bed beside him, not blinking, not tired in the slightest. He was married to a woman who was so gorgeous that he couldn't help but desire her physically, but upon whom he couldn't act on those desires. This was his life, until the day he died.


Summoned as a Servant, her Master becomes Galatea's new 'Beloved'. You see, as she'd only been brought into existence to serve Pygmalion, summoning her, i.e. 'bringing her into existence again', in her mind equates to her now only existing to serve the Summoner. Thus, she becomes the loyal, unquestioning 'perfect bride' of her Master. Even her appearance will subtly alter to fit the desires of her Master, down to her height and weight (within reason, of course). Though at first she'll seem cold, artificial, detached, like an automated phone line more than a person, over time one can help her develop desires of her own... especially if they treat her as an equal or a friend, instead of a 'thing' like a certain sculptor did.

In the story of Pygmalion, the sculptor crafted Galatea from ivory, intending her to be his perfect woman, the ideal no true woman could ever even hope to approach. Aphrodite made her real. Her very existence is an impossibility, of the sort only the true magics of gods can make happen. And, in her life, she made further impossibilities occur, as if some of that 'magic' was leftover within her. That is, she and Pygmalion had children, despite such a thing being impossible for a variety of reasons.

Essentially, Galatea herself is a Noble Phantasm, a Divine Construct, Aphrodite's magnum opus... a wish granting device perhaps surpassing even the Grail. She is to a Philosopher's Stone what a tesseract is to a cube, so to speak, beyond the understanding of any modern mage, and even that of the most learned of ancient ones. The issue is, of course, the indirectness of this. She does not actively grant wishes, and in fact has no control over when or how it manifests. Additionally, the 'wish' itself is not "What does the Master wish for?", rather it is "What would be loved most by the Master?".

Galatea: I've seen a few Galatea sheets here, but this is definitely the creepiest. You did a good job showing how creepy and inhuman the idea of a "perfect woman" is. It's hopeful that she can actually develop desires of her own though, instead of being a total robot locked in "must please husbando" mode. She seems like she'd be a fascinating character to explore in a Grail War fic.

I did notice somewhat of a contradiction between her lore and NP sections though. In the former you state that Pygmalion was unable to act on his desires until the day he died, whereas her NP description says she managed to have children with him, which would presumably necessitate such a thing. Since her having children was noted to be "impossible" I guess maybe she did it in some way other than having sex, but I'm curious if you thought that through. (Her being able to remodel her body also kind of contradicts the "no sexual anatomy" limitation, unless that wasn't an ability she had in life).

That Galatea sheet hits like a giant metal fist. It really is in-character for the Greek gods to "gift" an unfeeling, obviously inhuman spouse to the forerunner of every guy with an unironic waifu. Props for making me feel deeply uncomfortable.

Unrelated: The way things have been going, I won't be surprised if Galatea shows up as a robot girl with plasma cannons and the like.

Charisma(A+): A composite Skill consisting of a person's charm as well as the natural talent to command or unify an army or country. At this point, it is no longer popularity or skill, but rather a kind of spell (curse) in itself. An army led by her will have a tremendous increase in abilities. A rare talent, and an ability inherent to Servants of the Saver class.

Counter Hero(B): Reduces the parameters of the statistics of "heroes" that the Servant faces in combat. It is featured as a Class Skill of the Saver Class. At Rank B, it reduces all of the opponent’s parameters by two ranks. It’s weaker against anti-heroes, reducing their parameters by one rank.

However, as it is something design to Save the world, the full power of this Noble Phantasm cannot be used against opponents of a lower rank them Saver. Outside of World ending situations, proper use of it is limited to mostly just a power Hit or energy beam.

Background

Saver is a very unusual Heroic Spirit. She first came into existance as a response to the desires of a certain group of people. However, because the desires who birthed her where originally obsessive and impure, she became a treat and had to be put down by the Master of Chadea and their Servants.

Her original form died, but she still continue to exist as the concept the was born to realize had not become true yet. As such, her

Was preserved in the form of a "Seed", something still in its infancy, that maybe someday will take flight with it's growth recognizing many and healing many.

After a while she developed enough to manifest in a physical form, which resemble the old one since it was the only image engraved into her at that point. Sometime latter, once she became able to actually form coherent thoughs of her own, she was able to reclaim her past and understand her origins. She then decided to call herself "New Testament", as a promise to be better this time around, and came to aid Chaldea on their adventures in hopes of making up for the trouble her past self caused.

personality

The process that allowed her rebirth also left her as a blank slate. For a while, Saver was not able to even form coherent though patterns and her existence was more or less guided by the echoes of her past self, as well as the voices of all Magical girls supporting her.

Although she eventually she evolved to point where she could form a self-identity, she is still rather inexperienced. One could easily define her with two simple words: innocent and naive.

While she has access to the memories of innumerable magical girls, she hasn't lived through them and as such can't understand them fully. This will get progressively better as she develops a personality of her own, and she can possibly even become something beyond even her current self one day, although it's uncertain.
