Royd came up with Guilty Angel for that situation, and some people had used that Skill (or similar variations of it) for their own sheets iirc. Coincidentally my next sheet also has that Skill.

Welcome to NINE-lives' Showerthought Dump Thread

you also write it is a slow day directly after a new servant sheet

Astyanax: Pretty cool, though I am wondering where the myths about him grown-up and fighting are from? Unless he's some sort of agglomeration of different stories about both him living and his descendants hyping him up. I also like how the Durandal he and eventually Roland use is different from the one Hector uses, to unify how the sword was supposedly given by an angel with the bit where it's also Hector's spear.

Orlando Furioso itself. His wikipedia article gives further stories about it

It also says he killed a giant, married a princess and is Rugiero's descendant and Hektor is a really big deal in Orlando Furioso nearly at the same level of Arthur so I went from there. The attitude is kinda inspired on a reverse of Hector, he had to become an attacker instead of a defender so he is overly blunt but that nature isn't fully gone so he is also unusually perceptive for a 'meathead'. Also a trait of Ike's (the source picture) who doesn't like talking much but when he does its heavy and he has absolutely no filters when dealing with asshole nobles and tyrannical kings so I borrowed it as well

One Question do you think that the Orlando Furioso could be have as background some antique legends or mythologies if Hector is such an important there ?

I think so? Extella likes being coy about "Not real heroic spirits brah" but Merlin talks to Bradamante as if the story of them meeting actually happened and the Merlin in Bradamante's memories isn't any different from the one we know, Bradamante is just a eroge heroine so her WIS is Zero and thus she never suspects how much a trickster scumbag Merlin is. And neither Astolfo nor Roland have existence crisis or a unstable Saint Graph, hell Mandricardo is a footnote of a footnote in Orlando Furioso and he is a genuine heroic spirit

Pretty sure that's an abbreviation for wisdom, as in an RPG stat.

    The timing holy shit.

Actually speaking of holy, your sheet ain't bad at all. Definitely liked the ideas behind it, even if the execution wasn't all of that. But then again, for something that you've conceived in the span of a few hours? Wow, it's actually good. I also liked the way you've incorporated some of Ike's tendencies into Astyanax, love it when people get inspired by their FCs. And the way this sheet came into existence? Glorious. Please do it more times.

Here is the line with it

Fredegar tells a story of the Frankish king Chlodio taking a summer bath with his wife when she was attacked by some sort of sea beast, which Fredegar described as bestea Neptuni Quinotauri similis, ("the beast of Neptune that looks like a Quinotaur"). Because of the attack, it was unknown if Merovech, the legendary founder of the Merovingian dynasty was conceived of Chlodio or the sea beast.[18]
In later centuries, divine kingship myths would flourish in the legends of Charlemagne (768–814) as a divinely-appointed Christian king. He was the central character in the Frankish mythology of the epics known as the Matter of France. The Charlemagne Cycle epics, particularly the first, known as Geste du Roi ("Songs of the King"), concern a King's role as champion of Christianity. From the Matter of France, sprang some mythological stories and characters adapted through Europe, such as the knights Lancelot and Gawain.

Most of the stuff I have seen points more towards King Arthur and his knights coming from Welsh mythology rather than from Frankish.

I'm back from just not hanging around here and I'm not gonna read through the 500 pages or so I missed. Apologies if I missed a really good Servant.
Nice to see you all again anyway.

Anyways, I believe the reasoning for the Paladins being so different to Karl is that they did indeed exist but were just normal knights. In contrast to how Charlemagne is suffocated by the reality of Karl, the knights were unnoteworthy enough to become overwritten with fantasy. This is why Roland isn't just some random dude who died barely mentioned in a footnote but a heroic figure who bravely fought to the end and why Astolfo is a weird crossdressing lunatic. Bradamante was probably a normal woman taught some magic by Merlin but is so weird due to Paladin memes merging with her Saint Graph.

FGO hasn't really gone into much detail on the Paladin/Karl situation yet unfortunately. Hopefully it will do one day if they introduce Charlemagne to the Pool.

Charlemagne features in a very important way in Fate/Extella Link. He's a very, strange, person...?

Given the coyness they've displayed about adding Extella servants to FGO, it might stay that way.

Well then Okaeri then Anju ! out of this reason do i wonder if the Paladins have pre christian legends as basis that reminds me on the several songs in finland that aer fragments of the former mythology until they were reunited into Kalevale , perhaps some Celtic or french Gaulic roots do i mean if the Paladins are having similar like the Arthus legend complex are seeming to be several different originally seperated Mythologies merged with Christian thematic as i know there are some Arthus sagas seperate each in British and french versions . What i found out after some Root research about their origin .

I'd prolly write a sheet for the thread or even the contest if I had the time. But university usually puts a damper on that so RIP. I do like writing relatively obscure servant sheets so I'd prolly just continue that trend when I get to it

"Servant Caster, the last queen of Troy has answered your call Master. Hmm, my appearance? Sorry, I know it must be improper for a queen but I promise I'll give my all to fight for you even in this body. This time, I'll finally be able to protect everything..."

    Servant Caster:

    Appearance:

    Source

    True Name: Hecuba

    Alignment: Lawful Good

    Alternate Classes: Berserker, Assassin, Avenger

    Strength- D+
    Agility- C
    Endurance- C+
    Mana- B
    Luck- D
    NP- A++

    Personality
Wise, gentle and compassionate, the very picture of an ideal queen everyone could admire. Her definition of queen is "a mother to her people" who watches over and guides them, cherishing all her subjects as her own children. She's the kind of person who tends to spoil those she loves and forgive even their bad traits, which can be a weakness. Under normal circumstances she is a cheerful mom-type Servant who can easily laugh and cry for her children while retaining a core of firm wisdom.

Occasionally, Caster's sunny mask will slip and she will show a far more forlorn and melancholic side to her personality. Despite being summoned at the brightest point in her life Caster still retains memories of the tragedies that befell her kingdom. Scenes of gleaming buildings warped by flames and the bodies of her fallen children periodically ghost behind her eyes, making her a woman haunted by the past.

Deep down she feels guilty and unworthy for not being able to protect her kingdom. If only she were strong enough, if only she'd had the resolve to do what had to be done at that time instead of cowardly leaving it to her servants, then perhaps--- that tragedy could've been avoided. And that is why she rejoices to be summoned by the Holy Grail. This time, she has the power to stain her own hands to protect what's dear to her, rather than having her children sacrifice for her. As long as she's the one fighting, crying and suffering then everything will surely work out in the end. That is her conviction born of grief.

As such while Casters usually prefer biding their time and setting up spells from afar Hecuba favors rushing forward onto the front lines herself, using her summoned weapons and the physical boosts of her Beast Form Skill to savagely claw and slash at enemies. This is because she hates the idea of anyone fighting or getting hurt for her sake. She's somewhat embarrassed by the figure she cuts on the battlefield, admitting it unsightly for a queen to dye herself in blood but feels there's no better option to make amends for her sins.

Caster has a complex about her canine features, finding them a shameful reminder of the worst regrets in her legend. As such she'll usually try to keep them covered up outside of battle. If anyone calls them cute she'll blush and get greatly flustered.

Her wish on the Holy Grail is naturally to revive her beloved children and the nation of Troy from her memories.

Likes: Troy, her children and husband, to stroll through courtyards
Dislikes: her children fighting for her, herself for being unable to protect them, Greeks who fought in the Trojan War
Talents: to take everything on herself, preparing libations
    Natural Enemy: Achilles, Odysseus

    Relationships/Reactions:

Hector: "My darling son, so brave and strong... to be able to see your face again is truly all that a mother could ask for. I only ask that you possibly forgive me... that I wasn't able to protect you in the end..."

Paris: "...My child, know that I never hated you. Even after everything that happened I know that your intentions were always pure. Now, why don't you rest your head on my chest and tell me all about how well you did in archery practice just like old times..."

Achilles/Odysseus/other Greek heroes involved in the Trojan War: "...I don't hate them. There's no clear justice or villainy in war, and both sides were merely fighting for what they believed was right. As a queen, as a mother, I recognize that more than anyone. And yet... when I see those... those men who mercilessly trampled everything I cherished, something can't help but snap inside my heart. I want to kill them, to tear those brutes limb from limb and make them experience even the slightest suffering my children felt when they were slaughtered. ...Ah, my apologies Master. I showed a side of myself that was unbecoming of a queen for a moment there. Please... just give me a moment alone to regain my composure."

Atalante: "Sob... sob... I'm sorry for getting carried away but your story is just too tragic! Abandoned as an infant and forced to survive all on your own just because your stupid father only desired a son... well, never fear! Your days of loneliness are no more, for from henceforth I shall adopt you into my royal household! ...What do you mean 'that household only consists of me'? That's so rude, do you want to make me cry again?!"

Atalante's side: "What a terrifying woman, I just met her and she started chasing after me brandishing these 'adoption papers'. Not to mention she keeps trying to cram me in these disgustingly cute dresses saying 'it's perfect for a princess to wear!'. She's even more persistent than my suitors, doesn't that woman understand I'm perfectly fine in the wilderness on my own? I don't need servants or pretty clothes, just the sky over my head and a nice tree to rest in are more than enough. That said, for some reason... I don't really mind too much when she chases after me. Maybe it wouldn't feel so bad if I let her pamper me just a bit..."

Polydorus: "What an odd boy, yet I can't help but find him strangely familiar... hmm, 'mama'? Ah, I'm so sorry! I hardly recognized you in that new... form you're in. N-no, it's nothing bad! In fact, you feel refreshing, like a gentle grassy field... You have some new gardening tips you want to show me? There's nothing I'd love more dear..."

Helen: "It wasn't your fault. You were a puppet of the gods just like my son, and they were the ones who truly instigated that hell. Please dear... do not blame yourself over what happened."

Divine Spirits: "I understand that their blessings can be advantageous, and a ruler who flouts the gods' will can surely only fall into ruin. And yet... after seeing firsthand how they treat humans as mere pawns in their battles I can't help but be leery of them. The gods may be benefactors, but they are not friends, and it's appropriate to keep that in mind."

Her Berserker incarnation: "How unsightly, you've sunken into rage and hatred while totally abandoning your pride as a queen. Yet I'll admit... if I had to lose them one more time, I myself would become the same way."

    Class Skills:

    Territory Creation- EX
The ability to formulate a territory advantageous to oneself as a Magus. Caster's second Noble Phantasm facilitates creation of a "Shining City Ilium" superior even to a "Temple".

    Item Construction (False)- B
A talent to craft items tinted with magical energy. Caster had no anecdotes of a magus in life yet through her authority as last queen of Troy as well as her second Noble Phantasm she can draw on any treasures belonging to her great kingdom. These include riches of gold, jewelry and silver, ornate swords and spears and relics like ritual goblets or even magical artifacts. All the wealth of Troy prior to its pillaging is hers to command.

    Personal Skills:

    Beast Form- C+
A foreshadowing (curse) of the fate she later befell in life, Caster manifests as a Servant with noticeable canine features including extra wolflike ears and sharpened claws contrasting her regal bearing. Parameters save Luck and Mana are ranked up, but unlike her other incarnation Caster doesn't suffer any loss of sanity from this transformation. Only the occasional, painful memory that brings a haunted expression to her normally warmhearted features...

    Charisma- B
A queen who guided her people with wisdom and maternal love, regarding all of them as her beloved children. Caster naturally qualifies for a high rank in this Skill. Even if... deep down she questions whether a queen who failed to protect even her own children deserves to possess it.

    Clairvoyance (Queen)- B
A variant Skill of the Archer Class, encompassing the premonitions Caster had concerning her sons' fates as well as the constant watchful care she took to protect her kingdom from harm. Affords Caster glimpses into the near-future of those she acknowledges as her "subjects" and "children". The stronger her feelings towards the individual, the more the predictions cohere into a tangible shape. Theoretically a formidable Skill, and yet Caster all too frequently finds herself powerless to alter the fates of those she cares deepest for...

    Noble Phantasms
    Spondí Prostasia
    Libation Of Promised Protection

    Rank: D+

    Type: Anti-Unit

According to legend, Caster offered a cup to her son Hector instructing him to offer it to Zeus and drink of it to assure him safety in his fateful battle with Achilles. He refused, advising an alternative appeal to the gods and met his end in that battle, torn apart by the savage hero. Later, she made the same offer to her husband Priam before his expedition to the Achaean camp to implore for Hector's body, telling him to pray to Zeus and drink of it to receive a favorable omen. This time he accepted, and was rewarded with the blessing of a safe travel.

These anecdotes- infused with a mother's desperate wish for her children to survive even just a little longer- are what crystallize into this Noble Phantasm. By repeating the ritual in preparing a special goblet and offering it to the target to drink, should they accept they receive a + modifier to Luck and bonus to all saving throws for the next day. The effectiveness is doubled if Caster holds strong feelings for the target when preparing the goblet. Can only be used once per a particular individual in the Grail War.

    Priam Troias
    My Beloved Kingdom

    Rank: A++

    Type: Reality Marble/Suicide-Attack

A Noble Phantasm named after Caster's husband and crystallizing her deepest love, the kingdom of Troy itself. Wishing for nothing other than to hold her people tightly to her chest and make sure they never have to suffer or shed tears, her kingdom is undoubtedly Caster's true treasure and greatest Noble Phantasm.

Upon invoking its true name Caster may recreate the entire kingdom of Troy from her memories as a Reality Marble. Even it being years since she last saw its shining walls or glimpsed the faces of her beloved children every nook and cranny of the legendary city is engraved upon Caster's heart. And with it comes armies and battlements, wraiths of those who'd pledged fealty to her in life once more rushing to answer their eternal queen's command.

Amongst them include her own children who fought and died in the war, greatest of which is her son Hector. Hector manifests as a lesser Lancer-Classed Servant with the Skills Magic Resistance- D, Disengage- C and Projectiles (Javelins)- B. He possesses more autonomy than her other wraiths and can direct them as a commander, though still a pale shadow of his former legendary self. Synchronization with her Clairvoyance (Queen) Skill allows Caster to monitor the near-future of all her army in real time, making her a frightfully effective general despite lacking any experience for such things in life.

However because she dislikes seeing even shades of her children fight again Caster would rather not rely on this aspect of her Noble Phantasm unless necessary. Without invoking its true name and at a vastly reduced expense of Mana, Caster can also manifest only partial contents of the Reality Marble rather than the whole thing. For instance summoning a portion of the fabled walls of Troy as a barrier or forming ethereal swords and arrows to defend her as if wielded by phantom soldiers.

This Noble Phantasm also possesses a secret trump card, albeit one that Caster refuses to use normally. By using Priam Troias as a Broken Phantasm Ruler can recreate the Burning of Troy. The Reality Marble begins collapsing as phantasmal flames spread all across its interior, devouring everything in sight. Turning her beloved kingdom into a funeral pyre to entrap both herself and the opponent and burn them both to ashes. It can be called the embodiment of Caster's last wish, to have been able to die alongside her kingdom and children. As it means acknowledging the worst tragedy of her legend, naturally Caster will never use this ability except as an absolute last resort to bring down an opponent who threatens her loved ones.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So here's a compliment to my old Berserker Hecuba sheet. To be honest when I first saw art of Nailah I pretty much had to make one for her with that as FC at some point. I put a fair amount of thought into fleshing out her personality, as you can probably see by the number of Relationship lines. As usual comments and critiques would be welcome. Thanks for reading y'all!
