Damn, that was a good episode of Digimon.
Wow, really? So I was right to drop it one episode in after realizing it's just going to be Gridman this time?

The moment they call the episode "War Game", I know this is going to happen. Though, I'm not bothered from it at all.
The first ep of Kaguya sama was great, but i just can't help but want them to hurry up to the later stuff.

The fact that I'd rather watch that than Digimon trying to ape it?
I like Digimon for the isekai-ness. Lost in a strange but familiar world, full of monsters, trying to get home and maybe saving the world along the way. Or, in the case of Tamers, the opposite where the real world is being invaded.

Watched the first episode of Gleipnir this morning. It was interesting. Fairly typical premise (ordinary highschool student awakens monstrous powers that he struggles to control), but livened up by some good animation and stylish presentation. I have to say a main part of what made the show so eye-catching for me was Shuichi's utterly bizarre "monster" form. I've never seen an anime where the MC's superpower is transforming into a nightmarish stuffed animal/mascot suit before, so that wins points for originality at least. The author definitely has a creatively twisted visual imagination.
Shuichi himself is a fairly bland protag so far, being the "mild-mannered guy who angsts about his horrifying powers a lot" type. I mean, it makes sense for him to be that way, but he's not exactly winning any awards for being an especially memorable or compelling lead so far. The scene where he almost rapes Clair when she's (seemingly) unconscious feels bound to stir up some controversy, but I thought it was a good (if slightly cliché) way of representing his "bestial instincts". The show makes it clear Shuichi is horrified and disgusted by what he feels in his monster form, so this definitely isn't your usual wish-fulfillment fantasy.
Clair is a more intriguing character so far. Her manipulative and teasing personality bounces well off Shuichi's meekness. Almost everything about her past and motivations is a mystery, from the reason she was trying to commit suicide in the shed (if indeed that was what she was doing and not just a lie to screw with Shuichi) to why she's so curious to find out more about Shuichi. Going by her comments about how nobody believed her when she said monsters existed in the past I bet she had an encounter with the "monsters" (people who can transform like Shuichi) before that traumatized her. Maybe they killed her parents or something. I dunno'. Since nobody believed her she decided to kill herself, but now that she's found Shuichi she wants to use him to get revenge on the other monsters. Something like that is my guess. Well, we'll probably see in the next few episodes if anything like that is true...
Very disappointing episode for Digimon. Just a worse version of Our War Game, what a waste of time.
I'm not gonna drop it yet because it seems like next episode they'll finally go to the Digiworld, who knows, things could get better.
The only way I can see them salvaging this is if they play this as a really special and mysterious event that they keep trying to make happen again but don't succeed until the finale. I'd actually really like something along these lines, but I don't have high hopes.
Edit:
Tower of God on the other hand was pretty good. They managed to fit a lot of the exposition without feeling as excessive as the webtoon.
Comedy is bad but it was always like that so there's not much you can do.

The only thing that bugged me about Kaguya was something out of their hands. Why does Crunchyroll have S1, but Funimation has S2? It doesn't even effect me that that much, just makes it a but harder to keep track of, but it still really annoys me to not have the entire thing available in one place.

Aniplex. Sony got Funimation beetween seasons and have slowly transitioned into making it Aniplex's platform. Why they didn't put up S1 in Funi could be because old deals that they have to obey or something
Jashin-chan suffers from a similar problem. S1 is an Amazon exclusive still, but S2 is on Crunchy (dunno if S2 is exclusive to Crunchy. I know it's on Amazon japan, but I dunno about the rest of the world. I'm a pirate, after all). So, if you have CR but no Amazon, you can only watch S2 of that show
