Heroslayer has stated on several occasions that Shirou has no reason to start practicing Archery
Looking at this picture it is easy to deduce the two big reasons why Shirou started practicing kyudo, if you get my point
1. An after-school activity is mandatory.
2. Fate thought it might be fun to try it out.
Hayate would cry foul play at missing such a great opportunity to ' ....hit Shirou's bullseye!'

But then again, with after-school activities being mandatory, I think he would choose whatever would allow him to be closest to Nanoha and Fate, or just whatever would require the least time, so that he would be free to help them save people.
Not that it matters, since he doesn't need to practice archery in order to be able to hit a bullseye, and while he did originally use archery (or rather, its philosophy) as a basis for his unique approach to gradation air, the Jewel Seed took care of it here and thus he doesn't need it. So the plot relevance of archery is non-existent there.
But I would welcome a snippet exploring this idea if you decided to create it.
And come to think of it, in this story Shirou really will get powerful. And I don't mean a "uh oh, he has an artefact that gives him unlimited power" thing or a "uh oh, someone magically helped him get better" thing, but rather the fact that his low magical abilities stemmed from him not using his magic circuits at all for his whole life. And even then his capacity was quarter of Rin's capacity or something like that, so with him using his magic circuits and thus not letting them atrophy, he is going to be quite a capable magus, even if overly specialised. Of course, there's also the issue with his low prana regeneration, but I'm pretty certain that one, too, stems from either not using his magic circuits properly or from him having damaged himself during one of his "let's create a magic circuit" sessions.

I agree Shirou will be much stronger as his magic circuit will not atrophy so he should be a lot stronger prana wise of course he is going to need it to keep up with his friends.
While Shirou's training does damage his abilities in canon, do not forget that the quality of his circuits is below average compared to top breed like Rin and Sakura. Add that he's specialized in a rather dangerous ability, and thus lacks things like Flight, defenses and standard non-lethal magic and you end up with a boy who will have quite a few moments to doubt his abilities and his power.
Nanoha, Fate and hayate's accomplishments and talents are going to push him beyond his limits because he doesn't want to fall behind....

I dunno about damaging them with Shirou's crazy methods though.

Nope it is mentioned in the visual novel he has 27 circuits and if he had trained when he was younger he would have had above average prana instead of extremely below prana. Rin has some of the highest amount of circuits in the world to simplify it further cannon Shirou prana would be a 5 trained shirou would be at 30 or so and Rin would be a 100.

Nope, they aren't. Shirou's could channel about 10 units of prana each while taking damage because of how taxing it was, due to the weakening (they're like another organ, so with them not being used at all, they do atrophy; I think Kariya had a similar problem with his own circuits during the 4th Heaven's Feel, only it was slightly "easier" for him because of him knowing Zouken), so his absolutely highest output was 270 units, and the highest really safe output was something half of that; meanwhile, Rin's circuits could easily channel 10 units of prana without being damaged, so her power normal output was 1.000 units, and she would be able to increase that if she forwent her safety (and, to be honest, with her not using the "spare" circuits from the magic crest, she only has 40 of her own and she is considered a prodigy, while Shirou has 27 and most magi have about 20).
Granted, it's not likely for Shirou to reach prana output similar to Rin's, but even the only improvement is that his circuits are of average quality (i.e. 10 units of prana per circuit) means that he will be more powerful.
Just write them, then. I'm sure the lurkers will be happy. Also, Heroslayer is going to kill us...
