I too was thinking about a similar device, which would help him support his tracing and reinforcement skills, although it might force him to be a one-trick pony.
Also, when Kiritsugu died Shirou did mourn him, but as far as I know he wasn't very emotional about it in canon, as from that moment on he had taken on the role as his successor as an hero, and thus walked forwards.
The real problem here will start once the mourning period is over, and everyone realizes that Shirou is living alone again. So the Takamachi, the Harlaown and the Yagami family all try to convince him to move in with them.
All at the same time......
Thus: The Adoption wars begun.

"Mou! Stop being so stubborn Shirou! You always stayed with us when Kiritsugu-san was away, so you can just move into your own room again." Nanoha complained, as she tried to convince the stubborn boy as he kept refusing to move.
"Besides, that way you can keep on training with my son as much as you want." Takamachi Shiro mentioned , hoping that it would sway him over to their side.
"But wouldn't it be better for Shirou's training to take place in a family who has much more experience with magic?" Lindy interrupted. "Nanoha might be a natural talent, but Shirou-kun's unique style needs to be properly supervised, and he might need specialized help form Mid-Childa to progress even further." She turned to the boy as she continued.
" We could help you with all of that. Besides, you have seen how well living with us has worked out for Fate. She smiled at him, as Fate fiddled behind her, suddenly aware of the attention her new mother had drawn to her.
"If it's about developing his skills then your theoretical knowledge is useless."Signum stated in a calm voice. "The best way for him to increase his skill is actual training with a mage who has mastered swordsmanship and archery, like I have." She almost looked smug at the admiral, as Lindy's smile suddenly was replaced with a scowl.
"Besides, That way I can keep track of Shirou's health, and make sure that those sword manifestations don't tear his body apart when he loses control." Shamal added, as her Master and Vita nodded their heads in agreement.
"Hah!" Lindy interrupted. "You just want him to help you with your cooking skills!" She pointed a finger at Shamal, before moving her arm to point it at Signum. "And you just want to have a sparring partner who can outnumber you in weapons alone! I saw your eyes when he used that rain of swords in the battle against the corrupted program!" She continued to accuse her.
"Why you!" Signum sputtered "you just want to set him up with Testarossa, don't you!" She passed the ball back into Lindy's goal, who suddenly found it hard to look at Shirou, as Fate looked at her mother with wide eyes, and with open mouth
"MOM!"
Shamal continued, directing her hand at the Takamachi Family: "And aren't you just trying to get him to work in the cake shop? Or perhaps you are just trying to set him up with Nanoha too!"
"They wouldn't do that!" Nanoha interrupted, as she sought confirmation as she looked at her parents.
Her parents, who would not look her into the eye.
"I can't believe this!" She muttered. "Nether can I" Fate responded.
"Please don't tell me you are also trying to set him up with Hayate-chan against her will? " Nanoha looked at the wolkenritter.
"Of course not!" Hayate replied smiling. "I've been trying to get into his pants from the moment we met, so how could anything they do be unwilling." Her smile grew larger, as Nanoha and fate started to comprehend what she had just said. "I 'am' their master remember, so they act in my best interest in the end, no matter what they get out of this.
"Stupid sword throwing boy" Vita muttered.
"Talking about Shirou, Nanoha's mother interrupted. "Where did he go?"
Shirou was walking down the street, waiting for things at his home to cool down. as he wasn't paying attention, he only descovered he had walked into someone as she fell down on the ground. He inmediately crouched down to help the little girl stand up, as she placed her fallen hat back on top of her white hair. Red eyes pierced into his as the smile on her face grew.
"Hello Onii-chan!"
