Uh... I think I was trying to get started writing fanfiction again. I had tried before but they fell flat because of my lack of writing skills. One of my friends had gotten me into reading/playing Fate Stay Night and I got started reading the fanfics for it and I wanted to write something with Shirou because I thought his character was interesting.

I think I was reading a Nanoha cross when I thought about what would happen if Shirou fought Nanoha and whether or not Excalibur can beat Starlight Breaker. I wrote my first draft (which was a battle between overpowered child shirou against fate and Nanoha) and then retooled it for this story.

I think that was that one short story when Shirou was facing against Nanoha and Fate in a mock battles of sort to choose which movie to watch... I think.

There's compromise and then complete stretches. The circle is more of a mathematics equation than an actual magic circle. At least for Mid styled magic, they never really went more into detail about Belka style. Yuuno's circle isn't going to activate the Holy Grail. For one, the circle that Irisviel drew in the shed actually had a purpose towards the servant system. I like to think that the botched summoning had more to do with the circle than Shirou's ability as a Magus.

That's also why its possible for Shirou to summon Caster Rin, if there's a Rin on the ToH. Its just that Avalon is usually closer to him than the pendant is, at the moment of summoning, so the only way he's likely to get Rin without something bizarre going on is for someone else to have already summoned Arturia (say, they have a fragment of Caliburn, for example, or another artifact from her Legend).

Yeah... I wasn't really sure where I was going now that I look back at it. I think my original path for Shirou was something along the lines of UBW Shirou at nine years old because of the Jewel Seed and random sword wings somewhere. It's hard to remember because it didn't make much sense.

And I wouldn't say "has no way to happen" when we are dealing with an infinite multiverse. In this kind of setting, the limit is the sky if you manage a good enough asspull.
