I clicked black before I saw you meant the sprites' color.
It might have been helpful to include an image in the OP so people could check. They really do look brown (despite supposedly being black).

I know the text of the VN says black but I have never been able to see it. As Ishtar in GO sure but not SN Rin. The highlights are just too brown compared to her ribbons.
It's the color of the friends we made along the way.
