I grew up watching 60's WWII sitcoms like McHales Navy, and there's so many slurs in there. It's where I learned most of them.

I wasn't aware anyone here was Japanese, but either way one person does not represent an entire people. I make allowances where they are reasonable, but if anything annoys me more than censoring "bad" words it's hidebound, ""politically correct"" censoring which is also, in this forum, entirely hypocritical.
I'm sorry, Japanese people, but the word "Jap" does not have any racist connotations and hasn't since at least back when Big In Japan was recorded.

Really, all this article proves is precisely the fact that the word is, at best, disputed as a slur and nowhere near as offensive (or present at all) as actual persistent racial slurs. The reason is simple; the underlying tensions that created the need for this slur have vanished from public memory (in those places of the Anglosphere where they existed at all). "Jap" is not a slur ANYMORE, because there is no reason to use "Jap" as a slur anymore, certainly not with the West's rapidly-growing fascination with Japanese culture. There are certainly slurs a-plenty when it comes to specific subsets of said Japanese culture, but as I noted earlier we use those liberally in this forum.

That's just plain wrong, since anyone who uses that term intentionally pretty much signals that they don't give a shit about Asian people in general, and there is a pretty high overlap between being a racist piece of shit and using that word when no one else does. The word still dredges up memories of WWII/Pacific War propaganda and even the intensely racist late 19th and early 20th century history of Japanese immigration to the United States.
I will submit, it's really only offensive in English, but we are an English-language forum, so...

For the record, it's been fully leaked (barring any day 1 patch or DLC). In addition to some people just "obtaining" it, some guy sold 50 copies on eBay, and someone else ROM dumped the entire game so people are playing it with hacked Switches.
8 freaking days left and that happens, oh my god. It's only ever with Pokemon games, I hate this and the people that do that so much.
