Day 11: Vermillion, Crimson Moon II
Shiki wakes up. He still cannot stop thinking about Arcueid. He goes through his morning ritual, but he can't pay attention to anyone around him.
It is the same at school. No matter how hard he tries, he can't forget about the day before, even knowing he won't meet Arcueid again.
At school, Arihiko approaches Shiki. Shiki says he's not feeling it, and that Arihiko should go play with that cute upper-classmate. But Arihiko has no idea who Shiki is talking about. Shiki tries to think, but the name escapes him.
Instead of Noel, another teacher comes in, announcing that Noel has quit the job. Shiki realizes that she was only there to watch him as potentially being Roa. All his ties to the other side are being cut.
Still, after school ends, Shiki resolves to continue pursuing Arcueid.
Shiki visits the site where he and Arcueid fought Vlov. He realizes that the sense of justice he proclaimed at the time was a lie. He looks onto the flowers strewn about for the deceased, realizing it doesn't particularly bother him.
A girl with his school's uniform approaches him, carrying flowers. It's that upper-classmate, though he cannot recall her name anymore.
She calls out to him, telling him to give up on Arcueid. According to her, Arcueid is already a lost case. She explains that though True Ancestors don't need blood like a Dead Apostle, they possess something known as the Bloodsucking Impulse. It is not something that can be mentally endured, it is a physiological phenomenon.
Arcueid needs to use a lot of her power to keep it suppressed. As True Ancestors grow older, the Impulse grows stronger too, until eventually they cannot hold it in, at which point they are killed by their kin. Arcueid, who has lived for over 800 years, should be at her limit.
Ciel further elaborates about Arcueid's background. Arcueid was raised a weapon for slaying other True Ancestors that had fallen to the Impulse. Eventually, she killed the ones who raised her as well. She was only ever let into the outer world to kill vampires, that is her only purpose.
Yet now, something has broken in her. The weapon meant only for combat has for the first time gotten a taste of living. Ciel insists that its a mistake but Shiki doesn't wanna hear it.
The two part ways, but before she can leave, Shiki asks why Ciel didn't remove his memories of her like all the rest. She says she simply forgot about it until now. She has a plane to catch, seeing as she's been demoted. Ciel takes away Shiki's memories of her and leaves.
Shiki returns to the mansion, eats dinner and then prepares to head out. He cleans up his room for the occasion.
He arrives to the park and starts to wait. Even as the clock passes 10 pm, nobody arrives. Shiki waits until 3 am by which point his patience is at a low. He calls out to Arcueid, who had been unsuccessfully hiding behind a pillar the whole time.
The two talk. Arcueid admits she wanted Shiki's blood. Shiki however, hugs her, he doesn't mind that at all anymore. He confesses that he never really wanted to help for the city's sake. He just wanted to be with her because he loves her. Arcueid returns the hug, still in shock over her newfound emotions.
The two head back to Arcueid's apartment. Arcueid talks about the time Shiki killed her. At first, she felt nothing but hatred for him. But as she waited for him at the school, she became curious as to who the person who had killed her before really was. Before she knew it, she had fallen in love.
The two kiss on the bed and start to undress, eventually making love.
Afterwards, Arcueid talks to Shiki in his sleep. She asks if what he'd do if she actually starting drinking blood. Shiki, though asleep, responds through his dream. He doesn't want to imagine it, he hates "if" stories like that.
When Shiki wakes up, Arcueid is no longer there, only a note with "Bye bye" written on it is present.
With heavy feet, Shiki walks back home, knowing that Arcueid could have left the city already.

Day 12: Night of Ill-Omen
Shiki wakes up, his purpose lost.
In the living room, Akiha tells him to go to school for once, to which he gives a dazed reply.
He heads to school and mindlessly pursues his studies as a normal person. At the end of classes he is called out by a teacher who tells him to meet an advisor in the Tea Ceremony club classroom.
Shiki waits until everyone in school has left, suspecting he's been forgotten about. He thinks back on what to do. He has no means left of finding Arcueid but...
Shiki decides he has to find Roa. If him and Arcueid's goals are the same, they will meet up again eventually.
Shiki heads out in the corridor. And that's when he once again sees it. The shadowy figure. It gets closer. He knows it from somewhere. But it's too close, he has to strike. Shiki pulls out his knife and attacks, but it's too late. The figure flashes with lightinng and in an instant, has moved to Shiki's back and disarmed him.
The figure strikes, declaring Shiki is not the only one who can see the lines, and hits him in the chest. His face is revealed and so Shiki remembers. He thinks back to the scene of Akiha crying, the dead boy. It's him; Tohno SHIKI. The other person they would always play with.
The figure declares SHIKI's revenge settled, and so Roa takes over, his reincarnation complete. He's about to deal the killing blow, when Ciel bursts through the window, protecting Shiki.
Roa is amused at seeing his "husk" come after him. Another voice rings out. It's Mario speaking through a microphone. He says he can hold back reinforcements for 7 days, as long as Roa spills the beans on where he has hidden his immortality research. Roa recognizes Mario, identifying him as Laurentis' lost child.
Mario presses Roa about the research, to which Roa laughs. Roa says its impossible for a human like Laurentis to attain immortality. The reason he switched his research over to the soul, was because there was no other way out. Mario is stunned, clearly shocked by news.
Mario eventually orders Ciel to fall back, saying they will deal with Roa with greater numbers later. Ciel picks up Shiki and runs towards the Tohno Mansion. She reassures Shiki that Akiha can heal him, since it's why he survived dying 7 years ago.
Shiki's consciousness fades.

So did they actually show Shiki and Arcueid making love, or was it a fade to black situation?
Also, Mario is doing more than I thought.
Finally, speaking of the immortality research, the fact that Road is focusing on the soul, is that a callback or reference to the Third Magic? It certainly seems like it.
You're doing God's work here, Petrikow! Thank you so much!
Yeah, but the remake is a different, updated continuity, and the convo between Mario and Roa is remake original.

Besides, was the idea of the Six Magics a thing prior to FSN? I think so?
Mahoyo was written before FSN (and Tsuki) so yes
Day 13: The Lunar World
Shiki awakes with a worried Akiha by his side. She immediately asks if he was attacked by SHIKI. Shiki is surprised, Akiha had denied the existence of a third child before. Akiha regretfully says that she has been lying to Shiki this whole time. She called him back knowing this could happen.
Shiki believes he killed SHIKI, that's the way it looked in his dreams. But Akiha explains that it was the other way around. The Tohno family has non-human blood mixed into it. At a certain point, a Tohno will Invert, at which point they are put down.
The accident that almost killed Shiki was when SHIKI, at an impossibly early age, Inverted and attacked him. After the attack, Makihisa could no longer keep SHIKI as his heir, but he could also not make Shiki his heir. Shiki ask why to which Akiha reveals that he was adopted, he's not from the Tohno family.
Yet in order to keep up appearances, Makihisa switched their places. From then on SHIKI became the "adopted child who died in an accident" while Shiki would live on, and be disinherited so Akiha could take his place as the heir to the family.
Still, Shiki doesn't understand why SHIKI was still alive all this time if he was to be put down, but Akiha doesn't answer. Akiha leaves Shiki to rest.
Shiki tries to move, but his body is basically paralyzed. He forces himself to gradually regain his senses, which makes pain flow through his body.
Ciel enters the room. She laments that she was supposed to have left by now, but seems relieved at Shiki's survival. She asks if he still intends to go after Roa, even in the state his body is in. Shiki demands his knife back from her, arguing that "Thou shalt not steal" is a Christian commandment, to which she accedes.
Still, Ciel is unconvinced. She coolly states that Arcueid, with the state she's in, even together with Shiki, don't stand a chance against Roa. Shiki understands that, but can't help himself. He just wants to help the one he loves, because it would just be too sad for her to do it all on her own.
A sound goes off by the window. Ciel surmises Arcueid was listening in on them. Now however, she's gone off to fight Roa, in order for Shiki not to have to die for her sake. Shiki screams at Ciel, threatening her just so that she'll bring him to the school in time. Ciel eventually agrees and they take off.
---
Arcueid is drifting among the rooftops, gliding across the air, her form reflected before the moon. She's giddy with happiness at Shiki's words. She's never been so happy in her entire life.
---
Ciel and Shiki arrive at the school gates, where she lets him off. He'll have to go on his own from now on. She tells Shiki that she'll finish off Roa should the two of them die. Shiki understands, completely in acceptance of his own death. He runs off towards the school main building.
---
Ciel tries to infiltrate the school before Arcueid and Roa start fighting. She turns her mind into a machine, erasing her thoughts so as to not be detected.
But then she sees it. A disfigured ghoul is stalking the side of the building, and it has spotted her. An explosion rings out, Roa and Arcueid have started to fight. The Ghoul is an unusual one, it's lower body and head like that of a spider, having spines of its back acting as missiles, and a massive left arm contrasting its many right arms.
Ciel engages the spider Ghoul, knowing that she'll need to kill it within 10 minutes if she wants to be present for Roa. She analyzes its weapons, and attacks.
---
Shiki arrives in a school corridor where Roa and Arcueid are facing off, but just as he gets there Arcueid turns around and paralyzes him with her eyes. Shiki doesn't understand why, but is now powerless to help.
Arcueid activates her trump card. The corridor changes shape, becoming somewhere else. Roa's Magecraft Foundation is disabled, to his panic, yet he screams in joy as Arcueid traps him in a construct. She swipes her claws over it, and Roa's body is disintegrated.
However, Roa's feet remain. His body starts to rapidly reassemble, it's an automatic spell that activates if the practitioner's body is destroyed. Arcueid is tired from the strain of her attack and with that, Roa approaches, cutting her lines with his claws.
Arcueid collapses, and with it, Shiki's paralysis is broken. He rushes over to the dying Arcueid, they talk briefly and kiss, before Arcueid passes away.
Roa asks if Shiki's done yet, entering into his view. He considers the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception valuable and wants Shiki as his slave, even though he has a pair of his own. He is grateful for Shiki inspiring him, it made it easy to realize the process behind the eyes. Roa, who has reincarnated so many times, has died tens of times more than Shiki has, he is much closer to death.
But Shiki asks him a question. Can Roa only see the lines on things that are alive? Roa doesn't understand the point of the question, of course it's only that, things that aren't alive can't die. With his suspicions confirms, Shiki declares that what they're seeing are different. Roa can only see life.
Roa's body instinctively starts to feel fear, he demands that Shiki stop looking at him. Shiki says he'll show Roa what it really means to see death and then pierces the point of death of the corridor, which collapses, burying Roa under the debris.
Though his lower body is crushed, and unable to recover as he did against Arcueid, having spent most of his power, Roa still manages to creep out with his arms. Shiki comes after him, and finally deals the killing blow, erasing Roa's existence all together. He won't be coming back anymore.
Though Shiki believes Roa gone, the vampire rises once more, though rapidly falling apart at the seams. He declares he'll use their "bond" to take over Shiki's body, before he can disappear. Then, a blade pierces through Roa. Ciel is back.
Ciel insists that she'll claim credit for killing Roa, since it will mean less trouble for Shiki. Shiki is relieved, and loses consciousness with good faith.

If the reasoning from the original was kept, it's because he's reincarnated a buncha times.
burn your dread you coward
Thanks for all the hard work, Petri.
He never sleeps. He never dies.
Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
Thanks so much for the summary so far! It's been a pleasure to read.
Arc's route is certainly pretty intact from what I remember of the original. The new characters seem like they're used well.
Wasn't the remake supposed to be longer than the original? It still seems pretty short.
