Wikipedia was, of course, absolutely zero help. As usual.

Seriously, what the fuck is the point of Wikipedia if it doesn't explain anything in terms only an expert in the field can understand?

You know...I'm not sure, but I thought there was a project of sorts where Wikipedia pages had duplicate pages that explained stuff in simple English.

...Of course that could have been an awesome dream...

Not quite it, though I don't doubt there are people who think of and use it like that. The subtle intermixing of fantasy into reality without outright being fantasy is supposed to be used for thematic purposes, like in a Life of Pi, or something.

In other news, I'm now about halfway through a Feast for Crows, and I'm wondering why I didn't start reading this series sooner. I'm seriously starting to enjoy it, and it's definitely going to make my list of top 5 fantasy books. Also recently read Tad William's Shadowmarch series, and Eleanor Brown's Weird Sisters.

Debating whether or not to start reading Silverthorn, since it's apparently been 5 years since I read Magician. I could re-read Magician, but it's long.

I have started reading the Dresden Files. I bought the first and second novels, Storm Front and Fool Moon. I'm almost done with the first. I really like it so far.

    "New York Times bestseller".

Boy, they'll give just about anything that title nowadays, won't they.

Note that the New York Times bestselling list keeps track of how much a book sells, not whether it's good. That's why crap like Twilight and 50 shits get on there.

The threshold for being a NYT bestseller isn't all that high, either. It's something like 5000 copies in Canada to be considered a "bestseller" and IIRC it's 9000 or so to be a NYT bestseller. Of course, that's a large amount, but in this day and age it's not uncommon. 50 Shades of Grey is the world's fastest-selling book, and it sold 100,000 in a week.

Comparatively, World War Z by Max Brooks reached a total 1.4 million sales in late 2011, after being published in 2006. It, too, is a New York Times bestseller.

Just finished the Dresden Files, I loved it, thinking about starting Codex Alera, the other Jim Butcher series, anyone knows if it is good?

If you're into high fantasy, it's arguably better.

Think magic-wielding legionnaires versus eight foot superwerewolves versus psychic yeti versus the Zerg.

That's gotta be the most awesome sentence I've ever read.

And it still doesn't match up to the series.

I started reading Game Of Thrones after watching a few episodes on TV. Man, the Seven Kingdoms are filled with douches. Like Joffrey.
Ned Stark is a pretty cool guy in the middle of that court of debauchery. Also, Tyrion.

Fuck yes man, Tyrion is too awesome for words. I would sell my left kidney to be his drinking buddy. Ned was cool too. Poor guy, went through too much with his head getting chopped off and all.
