Tamarinds are tiny monkeys that live in the Amazon. Y'know, emperor tamarinds, golden lion tamarinds, that kind of thing. Their pulp and juice are used as a seasoning, to flavor chutneys and the like.

I don't know about the South but Chaves is (was? I haven't watched tv for years now) a thing here on the Northeast. Used to watch it a lot back in the days.

Cause it's fucking based. Plus, it's supposed to be a standard name for a working class father, and Seu Madruga fits, being believable yet whimsical.

It's based on our version of the saying "The early bird catches the worm." The joke is that he's nothing like it.
Tem is right though, it does sound both whimsical and believable. It was a pretty good choice.
