On the subject of Ved, I think it might have been the familiar but not a heroic spirit. Ved is too abstract as a type of creature rather than a specific heroic spirit. It was likely a summoned creature. That said who could have summoned it?
Remina comments it's probably Caster's familiar.

Casual reminder that Astolfo also falls under the category of one of Odin's descendants.

Caster Servant with a Slavic familiar calls to mind Baba Yaga first and foremost.

I would prefer Vasilisa the Beautiful, she could make a good Caster with her doll and the skull lantern plus any other magic she could have learned from Baba Yaga

Personally, I'm expecting Remina to do more mentions to Yggdmillennia members and that's it. Apo-Ophelia in person would be could, she was a Sakurai character after all, maybe a different member of her family if not, but yeah, as people mentioned, I'm not expecting any Narita level of characters mentions or cameos.

When talking about Slavic mages the fisrt that comes to mind is Vseslav of Polotsk (also known as Vseslav the Sorcerer or Vseslav the Seer). He's mostly known for his shapeshifting, though, and some tales have him as a bona fide werewolf. I don't recall any story of his involving summoning something or dealing with magical creatures, but it could simply be an application of his magecraft in the nasuverse.

The start of new Sub-Grail War mixing past and present
What is the reason behind Aslaug and Ragnar's memory inconsistencies? What's the meaning behind Ragnar's words? What do the two the crows dancing the skies of present day Scandinavia represent? Stay tuned for the tale of unknown destiny in a new setting with new Heroic Spirits!

Aslaug, daughter of the great dragon slayer and the valkyrie
A Servant. Her Class is Archer. She's the last Valkyrie, daughter of Sigurd and Brynhild. She doesn't remember Ragnar, who was once her husband.

Ragnar Lodbrok, viking living in the 9th Century
A Servant. His Class is Berserker but his Mad Enhancement is ranked low. Legend tells he was a viking king but he doesn't remember or recognize himself as a king.

What awaits them after the contradictions are solved?
The 21th Century Scandinavia is the stage for the Doubles Sub-Grail War, a battle where groups of 2 Servants fight as duos. Fate:Lost Einherjar - Aslaug of the Aurora is a story centered around Aslaug and Ragnar, the two Servants summoned for this battle by Lemina, a mage of the former Yggdmilenia Clan. The story will solve several mysteries and contradictions and unveiled their checkered while alternating between two chronological points, the Sub-Grail War Arcs, which portray the present, and the Lifetime Arcs, which are the story of how Aslaug and Ragnar met in the 9th Century Scandinavia. The volume will be published by Type-Moon Books in 2022. Look forward to further news.

    Volume synopsis
The Valkyries dancing the skies, the Dwarves forging the weapons of the gods, and even the gods and giants themselves disappeared. The battles between brave heroes and dragons became legends of a distant past. The supposedly everlasting flame flickering atop Mt. Hindarfjall did not last, and the 9 Norse Worlds were reduced to only Midgard. Even the Yggdrasil at its center is now gone.

The age of the gods was over and the age of the humans had began. Human braves live plundering across the seas.

Aslaug is the daughter of dragon-slayer Sigurd and valkyrie Brynhild. She long slept under the great harp of magical silver, and what awaited her upon her awakening was a world of men without gods. The Scandinavian Peninsula of the 9th Century. There she had a fateful encounter with Ragnar, young warrior of the vikings, the bold men who claim to serve the disappeared Norse gods and to be braves deserving of guidance to Valhalla.

This truly was the chance meeting between the last Valkyrie and the last Einherjar.
"He's a Berserker but his Madness Enhancement is ranked low (so he can communicate just fine regardless)" is the new "Assassin who doesn't assassinate people" isn't it.

There is an evil wizard Chernomor, but he's only mentioned in passing and pretty much an OC

I'm ok with Valsilsa the beautiful and Koschei as servants. It's plasible that we get both of them in this story.

Most of the time they don't even bother to rank Madness Enhancement low anymore, they just can talk regardless.

A Berserker who can talk has way more opportunities to be an interesting character than one who can only roar. A mute rager can be done well and has in the past with Fate, but it's easier to do it with someone who isn't just angry all the time. Also allows for more variety.

Roaring Berserker works well in a game or VN as an obstacle you cannot get through with understanding or negotiation (and the small bits of characterization after surpassing him feel satisfying and rewarding). Probably does not work as well in a LN as it does interactive media, but I guess Zero did it.

I was dubious about communicating Berserkers to begin with myself, but having had time to get used to it I like that you can have one that isn't just pure rage, but is still operating in such a way that you can't communicate with them due to fundamental insanity. Like Spartacus or Kiyohime both being completing unreasonably bonkers etc. So now days rank really denotes how easy it is to have a rational conversation with them.

It throws shade on the entire point of the class. Instead of "exchange sanity for power" now we have "Have some gains. Or not. Became a comical weirdo. Or not"

There's certainly some truth to that, but I think for the most part even speaking Berserker's still don't come off as sane. Like Kiyohime, Spartacus, Nightingale, and Salome are still crazy in their own ways.

Though we also have cases like Morgan where the class doesn't really make sense, I dont think they're in the majority.

It's too early to judge Ragnar imo. Maybe he'll be a Berserker in name only, but on the other hand maybe he'll be be a situation like Kintoki where he has a chance to fly into a rage in battle if he loses a dice roll.

Yeah, but at this point just retcon the whole "Madness Enhancement means you can't communicate" bit wholesale instead of pretending everyone bar a handful of people is an exception. It's getting tiresome.

Also, yeah, it's clearly shifted from "class where Magi intentionally bind a Heroic Spirit's sanity in exchange for raw power" to "class for angry and/or mad people", but that's a different issue altogether and affects more classes than just Berserker. Avenger, for instance, is a complete joke these days.
