Started Legend of the Galactic Heroes (14/07/23), pray for me.
It's not exactly a 1:1 comparison but in Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D, the titular character D has the ability to cut someone's font of life. The font of life is described as the ability to produce life force energy and even vampires and other undead need it to 'live'. It acts sorta like meodp just without the downsides. Funny enough the book this ability gets introduced I think was published around the same time the og Tsukihime got released. Again not a 1:1 comparison but similar enough to make a comparison.
