That Bleach episode was a statement. A big "Bleach is BACK" statement.
5 chapters in one episode fam. At this pace even with just 52 episodes they'll have plenty of room to do the additions they want. Probably no room for CFYOW proper though, but maybe the aftermath scenes set directly after TYBW will make it in. Fingers crossed.
Felt more like a movie than an episode tbh, I wonder how the next episodes after next week will hold up cuz they really wanted to impress visually here.
He did swing the blade, but it was a vertical slash, which in no way would create the effect we saw. If it had been horizontal, I might've believed Ichigo would've twirled around like a ballerina to hit all of the hollows.
They also changed Shiten Koushun from being a triangular pyramid to a rectangle which makes no sense since the fourth fairy isn't there to block anything.
But hey, at least they kept La Muerte accurate at the expense of an entire civilian building face. Big up Chad shame you don't get to do anything else in this arc.
Didnt really care much though tbh, it was a big dumb bombastic scene to get your nostalgia fix running and it succeeded just fine in that. Part of Bleach is also being big dumb and bombastic, and I like it just like that.
It was my favorite scene in the episode, and a much needed "welcome party" after 10 years.
Also liked the spotlight Rapport got, it was used for Bleach EX before but very briefly, here it gets the full usage it deserves. A nice prelude to the OP which is done by the same guy.
Rly liked the episode. Doesn't realy change my expectation for the rest, but it was a great way to make a splash.
burn your dread you coward
wow I did not know the name of Bocchi the Rock main characters are reference to Asian Kungfu Generation.
Housing Complex C looks pretty good.
Whether it be Jashin-chan or Chainsaw Man, is being in debt to the Yakuza a common trope or something? Now, I say this with the given that Yakuza loans aren't exactly legal, but I'm gonna assume that the average devil is stronger than the average mafioso, so a more efficient method to "pay off" that debt is to introduce that yakuza group to the nine familial exterminations. Of course, be thorough.
Oh, right, making supernatural killings look like common murders (as one would expect from 2 crime families taking each other out, due to a failed drug deal or something along those lines) take a bit of skill. Then what was No More Heroes? You know, apart from a lightsaber, rather than a chainsaw, but that's just semantics.

I know jack-shit about CSM and I was surprised. This author clearly LOVES all things cinema. Forget about the opening (I was so floored with those referencesand also I feel extremely old for knowing like almost all of them) I could spot western tropes from a mile away and that's... Not common. Especially in shounen titles. That zombie devil scene had a very Dawn of the Dead meets from Dusk till Dawn material.
My Fanfics. Read 'em. Or not.McJon01: We all know that the real reason Archer would lose to Rider is because the events of his own Holy Grail War left him with a particular weakness toward "older sister" types.
Wouldn't any gang of note have a strong Devil/Ninja/Metahuman/Whatever on the payroll already through? Like the only two ways you manage to stay relevant in a world with superpowers is to either have your own on call, or have enough of an advantage in tech or sheer numbers that it levels the field.

Great first episode for Chainsawman, they're striking a nice balance between straight panel translation and original stuff while adapting each scene. I'm still curious how they'll handle other more interesting immagery later on, but if the dancing spoiler devil in the OP is any indication they got that covered.
The CG is super distracting though and they use it so often and so intermittently you just can't ignore it. It's really easy to see the difference between the models and the drawings after seeing the 3D extensively in the OP, so you can't help recognizing it even in the scenes in which they did compositing really well. I expected CG devil mode but using it even in still-shots of human Denji? Oof

I still haven't seen it yet, but wouldn't the CG be more invasive if the model was constantly switching from 2D to 3D?

I think I'm gonna binge CSM when it's all done.
Anyone know how much episodes we might be looking at?
The anichart I was looking at last month was listing the premier as episode 1 of 12. I think I heard something about the show having 12 different EDs too, so all signs point to 12. Perfect timing for a News Years Eve binge.

Tiger and Bunny S2 second half done. Pretty good and a good conclusion to T&B as a whole, I feel. Overall, S2 was lots of fun. The final arc in particular was great. I like it

Finally checked out ep 1 of Chainsaw Man. Holy crap what a ride. This is honestly way bleaker than anything I'd normally watch but gorgeously rendered. It'd be easy for it to veer into misery-porn (Denji coughing blood likely from a terminal disease on top of everything came close to overdoing it for me) but the simple humane touches like Denji's incredibly down-to-earth dreams keep it from feeling too melodramatically tragic. I actually teared up a little at Pochita's "show me your dreams" speech. That a boy with almost nothing would dedicate his last act to giving his only friend the one thing he has, and that friend would repay his kindness despite being a bloodthirsty fiend by offering its life for him in a genuinely selfless contract is really moving.
And then of course we have Makima. Her hugging Denji to turn back him into a human was actually really sweet, even if she obviously had some ulterior motives behind it. Regardless of the ominous overtones of her saying she'll "keep" Denji that was possibly the first act of affection and intimacy he received in his life, and I can totally see why he'd fall for her. Especially with the very soft and gentle voice Tomori Kusonoki lends and I'm genuinely fond of her. (SPOILER)
I mean, Cao Cao asked Chen Gong whether he should kill him or keep him, so the wording is not unheard of. Chen Gong and Denji just happened to choose the opposite options.
