Is there a way to disable "post updates" when I reply to a thread?

In my case, I am trying to write a fanfic, and I tend to write multiple chapters together. However, the system keeps stitching the posts together, even when I post separately. My concern is that when the story gets longer, this will mess with things such like a table of contents and chapter links.

Any help/tips will be appreciated!

Wait for 10+1 minutes between posts, or get someone to post in between your updates and then delete the posts.

Isn't there a word count limit to posts? What happens if two posts try to merge but exceed that limit? Does it just not merge, combine the two to over the limit, or combine and cut off the second post?
