Actually, I'm really intrigued by how (whether?) R&D could stop WAR Sealed from becoming Snowballing Bombs: Le Format.

I assume most uncommon PWs will be closer to Dovin and Tibalt in that they act like low power enchantments with no real cataclysmic payoff. R and MR are often bomb picks in Limited anyway even if they aren't PWs, so I don't think it will skew it too badly.

In fact I'd actually wager the real problem in Limited will be getting good creatures since contrary to an artifact or enchantment block, the PW-as-Creature or PW as proportionally effective bunch of stats through token creation design space is much smaller. Not to mention that evasion is already incredibly important in Limited but in a PW block it translates not only into being able to transcend stalled boardstates and being able to race but card advantage.

I miss when sealed formats weren't instantly solved by the internet and you just had to suss out what you could from the cards you had. That's what made it different from constructed.

Sealed is still very much like that, it's Draft that gets metagamed to the wazoo

Wat, there is no other way to do it, or are you suggesting they will put an additional Mythic into every booster. That would kind of make Mythic a meaningless indicator for rarity.

Well, "a Mythic in every booster" sounds like the sort of gimmick they like to do every now and then.

The thing is, I don't believe they'd deliberately tone down the PWs in a "PWs matter" set. That would defeat its very purpose.

You can say a lot of not-so-good things about current R&D's tendencies, but that sounds like a pitfall they would detect and avoid.

Printing the theme of a set at a lower rarity is something they have previously done (Legendary cards are rare+ unless it's a Legendary Matters set or a Masters set). There is no precedence for turning the rarity marker useless as far as I know.

You're right in that there are no precedents of something on that scale in a booster product (rarity is already meaningless in preconstructed decks), but there's been similar, smaller-scale stuff. For example, the Innistrad and Shadows over Innistrad boosters sometimes had two nonfoil rares/mythics because of the logistics of two-faced cards.

OTOH, in the most recent precedent (Dominaria) the one-legend-per-pack bled down in rarity to uncommon and replaced a card of the appropriate rarity, which is more in line with what you're suggesting.

Do you think people would actually complain about the notion of "a mythic in every booster"? As long as the mythic feels "mythic", its actual scarceness is irrelevant IMO.

And named Planeswalkers have always felt mythic - this is ingrained in the average player's expectations to the point that any downgrade will be seen as a watering down.

That's why I'm intrigued about the Limited format. Will it be creature-based aggro vs Planeswalker midrange/control? Will it be battlecruiser magic? It has the potential to be the most unusual Limited format since Rise of the Eldrazi.

Isn't what makes cards feel mythic that they are rare, not that they are orange? You destroy what feels mythic anyway when you make it an uncommon-rare hybrid.

Pretty much. Since mythic rarity became a thing, Planeswalkers have been there.

Maybe they won't be mythic, but I don't think they will be uncommon either.

Still stockpiling wildcards and gold (currently 20k, waiting for Bo1 ravnica draft to come back). Playing about 3 ladder games a day.

Spending all my cash as it comes in since my collection sucks rn. Focusing on the next rotation.

Tier 1s are Mono Blue, Mono Red, Temur Reclamation (is that even T1) and even though its not T1, with a T1 winrate because it completely eats aggro decks Thran Combo

Damn, I didn't even notice that was an instant.

Angrath's sorcery thing is also super strong, though.

EDIT: Should also be pointed out that this is not strictly better, since you can't use it as a sac outlet of your own, and in multiplayer you can end up killing stuff you want to stay alive.

I forgot I also got Izzet Drakes but I made the 4 Phoenix build and not the low to the ground aggro-esque build which IIRC isn't T1 cuz it's too slow.

I think I hit the sweet spot of commitment to Arena - I'm content with reaching Gold in Constructed and Limited every month, saving gold to draft the sets I like, and playing unoptimized decks the rest of the time.
