Fighting Dimir:
The AI has assorted tiny utility creatures out, I have a Grazing Gladeheart. It plays a Vedalken Dismisser, putting the Gladeheart on top of my library. I kinda shrug, because missing a draw step sucks, but I'm gonna drop Pelakka Wurm next turn anyway and see how it likes a 7/7 trampler.

Play the Wurm, pass.

It plays a Vedalken Dismisser.

Groan. Seriously? Oh well, I can still get a 7/7 down again. And because it gains me life each time it enters the battlefield, its free attack hasn't actually done anything. Draw and play the Wurm.

Vedalken Dismisser.

(It then played Last Grasp - -3/-3 to target - on three consecutive turns too. Streaky little git. I lost that match).


Garruk Mirror:
Started with some random cards, Primeval Bounty (the Green uber-enchantment) and a Tusker.

End up a bit behind thanks to my draws, so I only have the Tusker out on turn 5 and I've taken a fair bit more damage. I Nature's Lore for some more land and pass; he has a Garruk's companion already down and plays a Sentinel Spider.

Turn 6: Primeval Bounty, land (gain 3 life), Prey Upon the spider. Gain three counters thanks to the enchantment and my 3/3 suddenly becomes a 6/6 which happily disposes of his 4/4. Swing.

He plays another Sentinel Spider.

Turn 7: Revive (gain 3 more counters) into Prey Upon the new Spider (more counters) into Rancor (9 counters total this turn). My 3/3 is now a 17/15 trample. Swing and get blocked, putting AI to 1.

AI screams in fear.

Turn 8: Overrun for +P/T and three more counters and a residual trample instance. 23/21 trample smashes him. Not bad.

I don't think I've ever seen that enchantment go off. It always gets removed before I can have any fun with it.

It's not broken by any stretch of the imagination, but when it goes off, it really goes off.

You can sealed deckbuild; constructed is still about unlocking from a pre-set pool.

In both constructed and sealed you can manually adjust your basic lands now. Which is actually pretty sweet.

Now I don't have to play a deck where the curve is more like a spike at 1 and 2 with 24 lands.

So some general outline of Theros is already up.

Dack Fayden piloting a totally not Argo after that art of him stealing the Chain Veil from Lilliana in Ravnica. This plot is going to be a comedy gold mine, just wait for it.
And Elspeth because she fits really well, obviously. Calling white amazons because her being already Athenaish is just not enough to build an image beyond being a prude and duller than Shirou.

I actually really hope Elspeth isnt on Theros, plotwise she should still be tied up with the whole Phyrexian/Mirrodin business after Karn woke up from his nap.

Though I am pretty spotty on my memory of that whole series of events to begin with.

Also, Theros had been designed and developed by the same people who made innistrad, and is apparently similliar if you just replace gothic horror with greek mythology, so that's kind of cool. Maybe would have wanted it as more Kamigawa and Zendikar, but can't have everything.

Also, it is going to be an enchantment set. Finally.
Three new mechanics, one for monsters, one for heroes, one for gods.
There is going to be a futureshifted card. Calling Daybreak Coronet.
Elspeth confirmed, other two planeswalkers in the set are new. Kiora pls come, and I am pretty sure one of those is going to be Dack, too.

Vanguard is a thing again, except it's now called differently, but is supposedly pretty much the same thing.

I'd expect a living weapon lookalike (maybe with additional cost, like if you pay 1 this put a 0/1 enchantment creature into play and attach this card to it) but Scars is still in too recent memory for that to happen I think.

Aura swap, mite b coo. In general if the so-called power creep (to the reasonable human known as "creatures are finally playable holy shit") is still going on vanilla auras might actually become viable now, if buffed enough that is.
