So I made a MTGO account in late 2016 but never used it because life stuff.
Today I had some spare time (in a business trip) and decided to give it a try.

As a new player, I got 20 new player points. Those let me play five 4-player M19 drafts with other new players.

First I tried solitaire mode for a while to get acquainted with the controls. They're confusing. You need to use hotkeys, and it's really easy to skip phases, attacks, or whole turns by accident. Now I understand all of those misclick memes.

This was the second time I drafted in my life so I totally expected to screw it up.

My first draft deck
Dragons! The MVP was the Spineback Basilisk + Declare Dominance combo, though.
Defeated UG ramp and BW lifegain.

My second draft deck
This deck was bonkers. Pretty sure I was the sole green drafter, I got a pick 3 Vivien Reid on pack 3. Tons of removal too.
Defeated UW fliers and mono B aggro (Rec Sage shooting down a Phylactery Lich for the final win)

An auspicious start!

If someone wants to jump into MTGO, we can play some noob drafts together.

The third draft: ended up with a pretty solid UW fliers/artifacts deck.
Went 1-1, died horribly to RG with two Banefires and a shit ton of removal.

Guilds of Ravnica is one spicy meatball. Took them forever to throw those of us wanting to go Selesnya at prerelease a bone, though. Knight of Autumn is so amazing. Such value.

Also for a change, i seem to always get stuck with BW/junk midrange in sealed.

Went to prerelease and had a fun time. Went 2-2-0 and sadly didn't make it to top 4 for prizes, but did get to draft after prere. Split for first.

3-2'd mine with best breakers with URb control (black splash for thief of sanity, price of fame and the right half of connive). Got Boros'd twice in the Swiss by two of the other top 8 guys. Promptly lost to an excellent go-wide selesnya with trostani in the top 8.

My competitive friend with UBr control avenged me in the semis, but got Boros'd in the finals.

Got Ral, foil Ionize, Doom Whisperer which I already flipped in MKM, so the event kinda paid for itself.

It was a pretty fun day. I got to live the dream: ultimating Ral and one-shotting the opponent, stealing Aurelia with Thief of Sanity, countering a huge hexproof monster with Ionize for lethal... As for my friend, he won one game off the Etrata alternative wincon, which had everyone going nuts.

Saw MTGA referenced in a webcomic, joined immediately. Must've played like 200 games since Friday.
Currently stuck at Bronze 3 due to spending wildcards on playing three decks at once, but that's the price you pay for fun, I guess. Fortunately matchmaking seems fairly lenient and the player pool broad enough that I haven't been at the receiving end of any netdecked stomps yet, unlike my first experiences with Hearthstone.

Actually pretty tempted to buy the 5$ beginner pack (I've already put more hours in than several games I bought for more than that) but I'm holding out until they at least include a friendlist.
