Yeah, hard hosers are just terrible, terrible cards. They're abysmally brainless, uninteractive, and they basically assume that R&D buggered up by overtuning a mechanic. That should be dealt with by not overtuning mechanics, or by bans - not by sideboard hunter-seekers that mean someone randomly doesn't get to play their deck. (And it is random, because drawing your three hateful SB cards from the sixty relies hugely on luck too) We worked out that Choke and Boil and their ilk were moronic designs a decade ago, Masterpiece reprints notwithstanding, so this crap still appearing pisses me off.

I'm rarely even the one getting screwed by this kind of card, because I'm usually playing midrange decks that have plenty of variety and can rarely just get shut down like that. But even from a pure game design perspective, I loathe them.

The closest comparison would be something like Rest in Peace. At 3CMC, this stands a pretty terrible card on its own, but the combo potential is much higher.

AFAIK Rest in Peace only combos with Helm of Obedience and Energy Field.

This combos with Persist, Undying, Cumulative upkeep, Thing in the Ice, Dark Depths and who knows what else.

Personally, I think 3CMC is about fair for a hoser enchantment that doesn't affect the board state. This is enough of a bad card that it won't kill energy IMO, just like Hallowed Moonlight didn't kill CoCo, and it's not even Modern playable unless you're comboing it off with your own cards.
