I forgot Luofu exist for a moment.
On unrelated note, I feel like uninstalling yesterday after I lost my 50/50 for a limited Harmony character to Yanking for the 2nd time (I still haven't gotten any of the limited Harmony supports, my account is forever bricked).
Welt is basically the Holmes of the crew, so there are higher chance of him being right than not. Logically speaking, it makes sense for an association directly blessed by Fuli to have at least a few Emanators of THEM. But fair point that she never confirmed it herself.
Mei has several versions in Houkai Gakuen (GGZ) and HI3rd, but those particularly stand out are the "Zero era" ones (usually known as Doctor MEI) and the active one in whichever current story is (known as Raiden Mei). In both cases she starts as the classic Yamato Nadeshiko Japanese girl, trained by her dad Raiden Ryoma (he is inspired by Sakamoto Ryoma) in sword skills, gentle and caring, then alien invaders attacked and she is dragged into a war for humanity's survival. For Dr. MEI, she becomes a scientist to develope weapons to fight against the aliens. In some timelines she becomes mad, and ends up as a villain. In some others she dies fighting the aliens. Raiden Mei also has similar roots, but ends up as a warrior instead. This is also a parallel for Himeko, where her GGZ and HI3rd version are warriors but in HSR she is an engineer/scientist.
She goes through quite drastic character development, but her core is almost always the same. She is motivated to fight to protect her friends (and lovers), and can go to the extreme for that purpose. Her personality goes from carefree, cheerful to a lot more serious, quiet, and melancholic when shits keep piling up. By the end of HI3rd finale, she went back to being cheerful, since they got the good ending. Acheron OTOH got the worst possible end, where she won against the aliens but it did not matter, and now she became something she never wished for, so she's trying to make the most out of it before she is fully consumed by the Nihility.
Raiden Shogun OTOH, is depressed so much she became hikkikomori. And it took touching grass to make her change her mind. The smart, gentle, caring, determined, strong-willed part of Mei is in Makoto instead and she's dead.
I think my biggest issue with Penacony so far is that there's a big disconnect between Penacony as a setting, the plot-relevant characters, and playable characters we get. The Penacony chapter is the only chapter so far where outsiders and characters unrelated to the planet of Penacony takes the center stage and hogs all the spotlight, while the locals of Penacony are barely even playable characters. It is a chapter that introduces too many worldbuilding elements and concepts that has little to do with Penacony as a setting. This is more egregious the more you spend time exploring the all the scattered lore and completing the side quests; we are introduced with 12 Great Families governing the Dreamscape, all the history and spanning thousands of years embodied as Clockie cartoon characters - It's hard for me personally to care about all that when the only characters we can relate these worldbuilding details to are just two 4 star characters who barely appears in the story despite their relevance to the setting. Penacony feels similar to Luofu in that it's a chapter where the writers just want to introduce important characters and concepts that will only be really relevant 12 patches later.
Considering the part about "12 Great Families", it feels like you have a fanfic fully written in your head, and you hate Penacony for not adhering to it.
Anyway, maps explored, puzzles done, story and quests cleared. Time to hibernate until 2.3 cuz the leaks are getting really, really fucking annoying.
my issue with Penacony is the whole 'death in dream' thing that happens early and we learn from the get go wasn't real makes me unable to buy the urgency of the murder plot. After that is mostly just minor nitpick in storytelling like Firefly reason to attack the other two women and acting overly hostile just to seperate us from them.
No, I'm not Gallagher, but I did fell for Enigmata misremembering beam. There are 5 (used to be 7) great families in Penacony who should be a major faction and only one family is represented through Sunday and Robin. I just think it would be nice if these factions are more involved in the main story instead of just being demoted to background lore bits, because I actually like the world of Penacony more than the previous regions. There are only 4 characters from Penacony in the Penacony chapter, and for comparison Luofu has like 15.
I guess this is why Penacony events so far (bartender and filming) are so uninteresting compared to other region's events. There just aren't enough Penacony characters to be involved in it, so the writer just has to use random NPCs and random monsters.

Speaking of Firefly, how did her second 'death' happen? I'm thinking it refers to how she has to 'off' herself somehow to return to reality to inform the Express after the victory fake-out, but am I wrong?
That's spoiler for 2.3. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been mentioned as of now.
I think it is thematically fitting. The so-called 12 families ruling Penacony, singing the so-called Harmony message, turned out to be a bunch of people infighting for their own agenda, and ultimately got crossed by the Dreammaster ruling the Oak family, so its good that we don't have to care about them, they don't rly matter. Meanwhile a group of ragtag people from different factions in the universe ended up united together and pulled off a big W. That's also a parallel to the Trailblaze path. It's a Path heavily relies on people of all corners of the universe coming together with a shared purposed and ideal, rather than a "Family" filled with discord.
Firefly is more or less improvising because Elio's script for her did not give her any detailed instructions. Meanwhile the murder plot is half for mystery + shock value bait, and half introduction to the Enigmata faction represented by Gallagher, aka those who like spreading fake news and muddle facts with fiction.
My understanding so far is the same. First "death" by the Meme is a taxi drive to the OG dreamscape, second "death" is her escaping the dream, and I believe the final one is her true death from Loss Entropy Syndrome eventually.
The other two were helping her before though.
She said she could not reveal her identity, since she is a stowaway infiltrated Penacony thanks to Silver Wolf hacking, pretty much like how Acheron had to conceal her Emanator identity to prevent problems since the Family did not invite a Stellaron Hunter for obvious reasons of them using a Stellaron.
So she was trying to engage in combat to cause distractions then leap towards the MC to take the MC away (notice in the cutscene right after the boss fight she rush towards the MC with one hand reaching out). She wasn't even trying to fight the other 2 ladies seriously (remember the scene in 2.0 trailer where she was fighting with green flames oozing out of the suit and wings, we didn't see her using that). But Acheron intercepted her and Black Swan took the chance to teleport the MC away.
I know I know.
It just as a reader, with the context she gives us (Elio's script requires her to be alone with us, and she is trying to reach us to explain her identity) and the first thing she do is immediately threaten the other two who has been very helpful to her before, the fight felt too artificial for my taste. But again, just minor nitpick that I had.
I'm already dreading the new bi-weekly game mode if the HP inflation trend from MoC and PF is going to apply there too.
Yeah I understand. I do have several small nitpicks that I probably would rant a bit about later. My problem with that part in particular is more about how quick it got brushed aside after the emotional damage it caused the MC in 2.0 for example.

From the beta tests, it is basically a mode specifically to promote Hunt + Break effect chars (and specifically Boothill incoming). So you should build Harmony MC, and Ruan Mei is a MUST HAVE otherwise it will be very miserable since Break effect chars is glued to Ruan Mei for life.
If you don't plan to get Boothill nor Firefly, I suggest you raise Xueyi. She is really solid as a hybrid crit/break effect dps.
I'm hearing disturbing rumors of Ruan Mei rerun during Firefly debut. I might just skip Ruan Mei again if true.
Without talking explicitly about leaks, I will tell you that you might as well just not play Firefly if you don't have Ruan Mei.
Firefly is by far the most restrictive character in the entire game to build a team that works well. She has only two supports she can use, one being Harmony MC whose Superbreak contributes to more than 70% of her damage AND Ruan Mei being her only option to help her gameplay since pretty much all other supports in the game provide stats she does not use. If you use both those Harmony as her supports, she is around Jingliu level in power which is really great. If you remove any of those characters, she drops down to Hook level.
Think of playing her without Ruan Mei and Harmony MC like playing Acheron without any Nihility while not wearing relics.
If they indeed put Ruan Mei with Firefly and give out a free Harmony MC for those who cleared Belobog like some rumors said, it is because of that reason.

It's fine. I just want to play stamp collector. She can sit in the backseat permanently or just be used once or twice for SU or weekly boss for all I care. I already have more than enough team comps to max star MoC/PF etc until EoS anyways.
