Looking at the NP trailer you can still see Saber's dress being long so it's doable in-combat (like with Firefly mech suit) and not for overworld to avoid clipping, but they ended up going for a redesign of her FGO's base form dress with more tassels and ribbons. I kind of like them, and I'm glad we have the first good looking 3D Excalibeam. Everything else TM's been able to cook up outside of anime or the VN has looked like absolute crap.
FGO Supports
It gets worse the more you look for me. They were fine at a glance but:
-random piece of shoulder armor on Saber???
-huge ass bow for NO reason and it sucks
-random black ribbons, what the fuck are those???
-LEG STRAP ABOVE HER BOOTS FOR NO REASON
-what are those sexy boots doing on her, they don't fit the rest of the outfit
-archer has glove now. okay
-they removed the ribbon around his chest just to put random ribbons everywhere else?
-why are there huge buttons on his coat and boots
-they gave him three random leg straps, while removing the details on his pants, when they around have a bunch of straps that would've looked better if they followed the original design
Really happy with the collab characters. I can understand the redesigns aren't for everybody, but I personally really like them. While I love the classic designs it's nice to have something new.
Glad E0 Archer is at least free. Apparently there's a chance that the banners last till 3.6? If that's the case, I may as well go E6S5 for both.
Takeuchi was the concept designer, so I guess direct your complaints at him.

It doesn't look long to me in that shot. It just looks like you can't see the rest of her outfit very well because of the close-up shot of Saber.

"Original Concept Artist" would be referring to the original FSN designs, would it not? Though the big ribbon on Artoria's chest definitely feels like Takeuchi.
I strongly feel like original concept artist is supposed to be crediting takeuchi for creating the design of Artoria and Archer as a whole. There's no way hoyo wasn't involved with giving artoria and archer random leg straps and a random shoulder armor
I assume that HSR lead designers sit down with Takeuchi and cook these designs. Hoyo got to add random straps and leggings, Takeuchi got his ribbons.

The designs are fine to me. I don't think there was ever going to be a universe where Archer and Saber's designs were going to be entirely untouched and approved as they were. What we got looks like an expected halfway between keeping their recognizable outfits and the typical Hoyo fashion design elements.
Saber in particular just stands out more for fighting in casual clothes which is unusual for her, and they also made some odd changes that don't really fit, like the high heels and shorter skirt. I guess they removed her armor entirely because otherwise they'd have to give her two separate outfits for in-battle and out-of-battle which is what she normally does but they didn't want to give her special treatment. As for Archer... I think his lower half is a big downgrade. His pants are less detailed and his original butt-cape had more fabric to look at. I don't like that they cut it up completely into random ribbons. They otherwise persevered the rest of his design pretty well though.

It is strange that they chose to release him the same patch as the collab where he'll have to compete with both Seiba (also a Destruction char that would definitely be really strong) and Archer. The climax of his ascension will be overshadowed by the hype of the collab.
Anyways, I'm not really feeling the design, it looks too similar to Sundae's and not living up to the aura of OG KEBIN as his expy enough, even if the wings clearly implying he'll get a second form probably in combat. Oh well.
The banner timing is strange too. Going by the patch cycle of 6 weeks, 3.3 should be ending by the end of June (unless they cut the patch's length by 1 week), which means Phainon banner would overlap with the collab banners. I guess since the collab banners are going to last pretty long, people can take their time trying to get the collab units. But since they will have to start it from scratch, I'm not sure if non-whales are willing to prioritize Phainon. Only the most die-hard HSR fans who not only like him and Amphoreus as a whole but also not giving a shit about the collab would go all in for him.
The official banner dates list Phainon as July 2nd and Saber/Archer as July 11th. The banners were always going to overlap, but having these dates so close to each other is absolutely crazy. Sure, you can take your time with the collab until 3.6, but most people who want the Fate characters aren't going to wait.

Man, 3.4 is starting to look more like the real anniversary patch with all that's happening. Phainon, Saber and Archer release + 4 popular characters are getting buffed. The 3.4 beta will be insane.
I feel sorry for F2P players though. Having Phainon, Saber and Archer release in the same patch is scummy as hell, regardless of how long the banners last.
