So... it seems like there's some sort of "unspoken thing" between BL and the TM wiki. I see it around the site, little bashes at the site about how it's a bunch of drunken illiterate nonsense run by monkeys with six anuses and the like, but where did this come from? Is it really that bad? And, if it is that bad... why has no one put up a "counter-wiki" on WorldAnvil or a similar site?

It’s the opposite problem. Too many people have tried to put up “counter-wikis”.
They put up translations errors and their own interpretation of badly translated phrases up on the wiki or just their headcanon and don't let anyone else remove it, you tell me if it's bad or not.
Not to mention Fandom-hosted wikis are just ass in general.

In the wiki's defence, they've been getting better, standards for references and labelling has vastly improved over the last couple years, but it takes time to repair all the damage, especially to a very fraught relationship like this one. The thing about fandom wikis being a pain in the ass is true though. I admin one, and fandom asked if they could put up "a small ad in the sidebar" and next thing I know there's a feckin' banner add that takes up half the screen when a log in. -_-l

On desktop of course I do, mobile is where it sucks though. Lots of "how much do YOU know about [topic of wiki]?" quizzes and autoplaying videos about the subject of the article
Try a mobile adblock browser, maybe.

(It's alright for quickly finding sources of statements, but don't use it for new information because some machine translation software loony from reddit almost certainly has their dirty handprints all over it)
Pretty much read every source of every phrase in the wiki before believing any single word in it. It's more useful as a collection of sources and links than anything (and images I suppose).
Beast's lair is elitist. They claim to know more than the wiki but won't say what is actually not factual. Other things I've read seem dubious or aren't 100% confirmed but act as if it is but never cite where they got this info from.
Just a reminder for someone to be cannon it needs to possible to.cite somewhere. If it cant it is a fan theory. Not fact

Not sure why this would be surprising, considering it's literally just a collection of people compiling what they read and their interpretations of the text together.
Are you under the belief people that write the wiki have divine knowledge your average fan is not privy to? If you want examples, someone edited the wiki "confirming" one of SF Hassan's NPs, but it was based on a misunderstanding of something Comun translated. They also keep a mistranslation of Lu Bu's profile up in his page. The erroneous belief Beasts represent a "sin" also started from someone just writing it there for no good reason. There's more.
