Phase 1
Day 1 - Afternoon (New Moon)
Entertainment District - Golden Road Markets
Once she saw the weapon, Wagner readied her defenses. It was the kind of technique which required no thought to use besides preparing it, an important form of security In the Department of Lore where even perceiving something wrong means death. The moment that gun was fired or the gangster pulled any tricks she would be able to respond instantly. As the student's current guardian she has been tasked with ensuring the safety of the group with her life. So long as they were there she could not escalate and execute the threats with imposing undesirable risk. Thus, she silently rooted herself in place, observing she always does.

“When the current situation deescalates or other protection arrives. I will persist with my current defensive position until then.”
She could hear the others approaching, but so long as they were not here in the moment she wouldn’t falter or budge from her post. Instead, carefully analyzed every move of the man with the gun as they rambled at something unseen like a mad man.

“For the sake of safety and structure sir! The lord's hierarchy is absolute and as his vessels we take his power and order the cosmos!”
The man seemed startled but he saluted like his life depended on it, clearly reciting something that was beaten into his head without mercy. Lacking context it felt more cryptic than you would like, but what was clear from his words was that they were borrowing their power from somewhere else.
“I’m sure we could both handle this with the rank of Elohim!”
His begging seemed to bend close to prayer, asking a mere illusion for a miracle. But even his desperate focus was drawn away for a moment by further escalation of chaos amongst the group who assaulted them.

Hostile Action Detected: Commencing Defense Protocol #3.
It was a cruel action, but more than that it was a terrible miscalculation. Wagner didn’t have a chance to prevent it for that was how it was designed. Like ripping your hand away from a hot stove, her prepared defense was beyond instinctual, acting even faster the laws of survival encoded into the human. It was meant to react before she could think for her own safety. Yet in the unexpected clash between allies, her careful prep backfired.
The second the slap happened the movement of her limbs instantly followed. With the augmentations made to her body she had a total of four arms and four fists all of which turned upon Professor Lyn in a flurry of blunt violence. Her body twisted towards the target, now out of her control, her punches flying out in a blur that was difficult for a regular person to follow. Lyn seemed to react, twitching to dodge with superhuman speed himself, but not even he could react in time before numerous blows crashed into him in quick succession. It was an event that lasted only a second or two before Wagner could regain conscious control, but even then the preprogrammed technique had already carried itself out to completion.
“......... My Apologies.”
Wagner took a moment to contemplate, looking at the battered Lyn awkwardly before eeking out an apology.
“Don’t apologize, you saved me the effort!”
The situation only seemed to escalate as Professor Reid tore through the road and crowd alike as he barreled over to the situation in a desperate hurry. He had no understanding of the situation but saw clearly Lyns failings and the dangers of the gangsters. The sight of the colorful butterfly man yelling in the middle of the street brought more stares to the group than anything that had happened thus far. This continued to escalate further and further.
“.... Oh darkened will, may you fulfill your empty heart.”
With the ending whisper of an incantation, the very air of the place. The light of the artificial sun felt as if it had dimmed, light itself faltering in face of what was forming. Perhaps it was an overreaction to go this far, but seeing a gun pointed at a student simply brought about this kind of reaction in him. Wagner would surely criticism him for the overkill. But he wasn’t the kind of man who wanted to always act so carefully when important things were on the line. It wasn't the way of a magus to be so wasteful, but for Reid it was at least the way of a teacher.
“EEEHHHhhhh!”
The gangster, already tense and sweaty, fell directly upon his ass in cowardice as the light left his eyes and bright sky was blotted out. There was a disturbance in the air that couldn't be ignored as the biggest moth you had ever seen flew overhead. A creature darker than night which seemed to dim the very day simply by existing. It felt like trying to stare into a hole in the world, one you might just slip into if you weren’t careful. Perhaps worst of all, the awe of the thing made you sick, as if the creature harbored a tangible malice for the world it inhabited.
You felt that maybe you should count your lucky stars that it was on your side.
