I'm a webdev by trade (ackshully fullstack), though I have no propr experience with MediaWiki, so guess that's not too helpful all things considered.

As for questions, I feel like I need a bit of clarification regarding the scope of this project. Since you say you "aim to supplement the already established Type-Moon resource sites with a compilation of the translations that constitute BL’s contribution to the fandom", does that mean that's effectively the only content which will populate this wiki? That is to say, all the "general wiki stuff" that one might expect to find just popping into a wiki page real quick to check on will be left to whatever other resource sites are still doing that, while this focuses in particular, and more importantly exclusively, on bringing together the more disassociated translation pieces on BL?

If that's the case, what are your plans for categorizing and organizing that information specifically? I mean, say I'm looking for an Apocrypha related factoid, and I go to the Apocrypha page, am I just going to see a bunch of scattered, translated blurbs from various sources populating the page, at best separated into more abstract headers?

Also, since you're looking for work with scripts and extraction, and looking at the test page you have set up right now, is part of the intention to rip and transliterate all the game scripts as well, much like what Lib is doing with TRI-HERMES?

I imagined it to be like the EvaWiki, which is a good resource that is based essentially on the EvaGeek forums.

BL Wiki's role has already been cannibalized by TypeMoon Wiki and TMdict.

We missed our window, and BL no longer has that many busy bodies to maintain something like a Wiki.

I wanted to talk to Petri about this and then I forgot, soz

The front page is in the same state as it was in 2021 when we revived the project, and at the time the hubris of attempting to make a comprehensive database of text sources without having the manpower or technical know-how hadn't sunk in. Since that attempt didn't go past PMing a few translators whether they were interested in contributing, the front page reflects a previous stage where the wiki was conceptualised as, well, what Tri-Hermes ended up doing.

Instead we plan to consolidate the translations of works and side materials that have been done on BL and focus presentation on the aspect of JP-EN side-by-side comparisons for ease of use by the more pedantically inclined. If that process doubles as an editorial effort, all the better.

The funny thing is that I actually tried to do this on MediaWiki initially, found it to be extremely limiting, which resulted in making my own site (kinda).

Ideally we should try to aim for a NodeJS website that is fully customizable and not dependent on archaic architectures.

    • Creating the ultimate TM content archive. Still WIP.

It always annoyed me how many translations in here are buried under 500 page discussion threads instead of being under Forum > Type-Moon > Translation, making them much harder to find. Especially for any newcomer.
Hope this project will help in that regard.

This is one of the many reasons I felt that megathreads were a bad idea, but I seem to be in a minority.

The TM Wiki contributors are loyal to the site, but in theory, we might be able to poach a few of them.
After all, TM Wiki is still part of Fandom, a bloated, overstuffed site that's suffocates itself and any computer that opens more than four tabs under its own weight. We have the advantage of being a more contained, and significantly faster webpage.

Fandom is dying. It's an agonizingly slow death, but it's just a poorly made and heavily outdated system. If we can drive that point home to a few people, we might be able to pull some of them away.

I have been editing on the TM wiki, but didn't get along too well with the other users. Wouldn't mind helping out making some pages when this gets off the ground. Dont know much about technical stuff tho
