For context to my thought process, if it is unclear, in Skyrim, I never killed Paarthurnax, and I always choose to be a vampire or a werewolf. I find these "monsters and demons" to be more kindred than any common mortal.

SMT V's introduction is hilariously brief.

I had to use my Moh Shuvuu to summon Alice, so I decided to get another one via capture, rather than fusion... So, um, I decided to talk to one, and she said that she heard "rumors about me" and left... Wait, did the game just become self-aware? You know that mechanic that Doki Doki Lit. Club and Ar Nosurge use on purpose? SMTV may have done so by accident. Anyway, during that same fight, I managed to get another Moh Shuvuu down to low health, so she ended up being the one to initiate conversation, and I recruited her that way.

Ok guys so I just beat SMT4. Should I play 5 or Apocalypse next? Also does the story of apocalypse actually have anything to do with 4 or is it just set in the same area?

Btw this is my first SMT but can I take any certain demon until late game or will I need to fuse higher tier demons as I progress to keep up with the difficulty?

From what I know of P5's meta, fusing is the way to go. I suspect it may be the way for all the other games as well, including SMT.

Apocalypse is a direct sequel to 4, so I'd hit that next. Also that way you stay on the 3DS and don't have to deal with the hassle of going back to an older system after playing a newer one.

Sort of. The demon will keep gaining stats and levels, but no new abilities after the first 5. You can offset that in this with the essences, teaching stronger moves and resistances to older demons, but also as you go forward the demons will start with higher base stats, so you may need to grind them up to higher levels to be on par with demons of a lower level.

I mean, Nocturne did it the same way and worse. Mainline SMT doesn't really do "true friends" the way Persona does, expect anyone and everyone you meet to secretly be an asshole and/or die suddenly.

I've played the start of Nocturne before and I don't think it's comparable.
It sets up characters a bit, builds some mystery... This one doesn't even let you digest what is happening in the city before it is destroyed.

I felt like the story was really barebones, moreso than i expected.

You need to fuse up unless you REALLY like that Pixie or Mermaid.

You can fuse down to a degree. I think middle-game demons can be taken to 99 fairly reasonably (i did it with Alice and Idun, granted they both are fucking op). Early ones like Mermaid... you probably would have to work for it.

I wonder how swole could i get Idun if i put enough work in the required demons

That "create a world for humanity alone" ending really hits home that most of these protagonists really are dumb teenage kids. "If there were no demons, surely, humans wouldn't kill each other." Who else would believe that? Of course, there are people who go into adulthood with such a childish mindset.

I think that the Fate series knows exactly what someone who wants an easy button on world peace deserves. Yes, Kiritsugu. I feel no such pity for such men. Only mockery.

In terms of stats, I think I read +20 was the max for top end fusion material.
