    I think they finally got over LB7 and everything that happened around that time (Nasu falling ill, TsukiRe coming out and so on), they're back on normal tracks for now. Until the next disaster.

    3. Hot Springs Can't Heal That

    The day starts with a flashback to the first Aoko fighting the star in 1999.

    Aozaki Aoko: Phew, that cut close...! That Shift almost didn't make it... What the hell is wrong with it? Physical attacks don't work, its movements aren't telegraphed, there's no pause between attacks, and it's impossible to tell what it is! And the most annoying part is...

    <Analysis: rejected.>
    <Examination: rejected.>
    <Appraisal: rejected.>
    <Diagnosis: rejected.>
    <Rejected.
        Rejected. Rejected. Rejected. Rejected. Reject ed.>

    Aozaki Aoko: Speak a human language, dammit! (I can't keep spamming teleports to dodge forever. One whiff and I'm dead...! I thought of a provisory solution, but it's a no-go while it keeps pulling these big moves. If only it could stop attacking for just two seconds...) Hh...! (It's well aware. The plan is to keep up the stalemate forever. How long can my mind take it? Five days? Ten? Now is not the time to worry about it. While I'm busy here, the magical energy gusts spread and Earth turns into an unsightly wasteland. I can't fix this on my own... But there's no one left to rely on. That's the magician life. For all the people who fear me and take me for special, in the end, I'm still human. World-spanning calamities aren't supposed to be faced by one person alone.) Still, isn't this getting ridiculous!? What is it? Is it really a star that fell from space to destroy the world!?

    The stars in the sky shine in mockery of her correct guess. After putting up a fruitless fight, the Earth will hopelessly be smashed. Fate was not on her side. She had no way to revert her fate. In a matter of minutes, her limbs would be roasted, hardened, rotted, and pulverized. All were disappointed by this conclusion. All were defeated by this collapse. In this amber crater of a fallen star, there was no shining miracle to save the magician.

    The Sky Suite trio wakes up in a great mood. With Aoko's killer no longer being a thing, they can focus on finding the Grail after a nice breakfast. Robin comes in and spoils the mood by telling that Aoko's body has been discovered in the bathing area. The first discoverer this time is Alice. She noticed Aoko wasn't in their room when she woke up, so the first thing she did was look for a corpse in the secret spring of the day. Her face is completely caved in, so Yoshisuke can't recognize the victim. He notices the victim is wearing Aoko's clothes, but Alice convinces him it's the current fad and everyone in the big city is wearing that outfit. Yoshisuke checked that none of the guests were hurt, so he concluded that the victim was a failed burglar. He asks Soujuurou to carry the body to Hell Hall again and leaves.

    After Yoshisuke, the team waits a few seconds for Aoko to come back. The third Aoko traces the second's magical energy vestiges and finds Alice. Back in the Sky Suite, Fujimaru tells Aoko what happened in the past two days. Aoko's opinion is that the investigation didn't progress enough yesterday because we conflated the killer and Grail's owner too much. She recommends ignoring the killer and focusing on finding the Grail's owner by learning personal information about the guests. She believes all of them are using the inn's purification as an excuse for a separate goal, and if we find what each guest's secret goal is, the mystery will solve itself. When Aoko is about to head to lead the legwork, Tobimaru reminds her that the victim doesn't get to interrogate the suspects. Aoko will have to stay in the room until it's time to pressure the culprit.

    Robin reveals that Alice secretly wants to join the investigation after she had an awfully boring day tending to the souvenir shop yesterday. Alice is a living lie detector, so that's a welcome asset to have. Tobimaru splits the group to investigate both buildings at once. One team is Fujimaru guarded by Soujuurou since they're Master and Servant, and Alice needs to be in their team because she can't communicate properly without Soujuurou translating her intentions. The other team is Tobimaru with only Mash as his assistant/record-keeper.

    The only guest in the older building is Ryougi in the souvenir shop. The group decides to search outside but Ryougi asks the temporary employee Alice to go wrap up a set of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum plushies as a present. While Alice is working, Ryougi takes the chance to answer questions about the case. They start with her name and address and get the obvious answer that she's Ryougi from Mifune, Tokyo. She believes Fujimaru and Mash are the only guests in the inn without an ulterior motive. Yoshisuke advertised his pay-per-banished-haunting a lot, but Ryougi doesn't believe that would attract this many people because spirit exorcists can find many other sources of income that don't require traveling to secluded mountains, and a genuine spirit exorcist would immediately notice how impossible the job is and quit. No one should logically be here for the cash.

    But Ryougi stops talking as soon as Alice comes back with her wrapped gift. She leaves, much to Alice's relief. Alice would rather not fight Ryougi if possible. Ryougi has the smell of genuine demon hunter lineage. Alice has no doubt that Ryougi is the best guest when it comes to killing spirits. Not banishing spirits, killing. If the building itself gets possessed, Ryougi could split the building in half.

    The story is locked until the team has 4500 exorcism points.

    While exploring outside, the group hears a girl screaming for help.

    [ <-Battle against one wave of 2 demonic monkeys and 1 dropped coins, one wave of 1 demonic monkey and 2 dropped coins, and a wave of two mysterious spirits (represented by Avenger-classed shadows of Cu and Ko-Gil). Forced Caren support with a passive that neutralizes her class disadvantage against Avengers. This is where you can first use story support Alice. -> ]

    Alice's kit

    Flat Snark of the Great Three: Sure-hit (1 turn), 30% super-effectiveness against humans (1 turn), Quick AOE super effective against the man attribute, fear with 60% chance (1 time, 3 turns), and 20% crit rate down.

    Folklore Protection B: 400 damage cut on attacks and burn/curse/poison damage.
    Yumina C: Guts that activate only on instadeath (1000 HP, 5 times) and 2000 HP extra heal on any guts activation

    Caren explains that the mysterious spirits were residual thoughts of scoundrels she disciplined in the past, stalking her out of hatredgratitude. She thanks the team for the help. Since she's not a fighter, she's usually with a partner to do this side of the job, but her partner is currently not with her. We questioned her about the hidden motives, but her principles don't allow her to disclose the desires of others. She tries to tease Soujuurou, but Fujimaru warns about knowing a devil with the same name and face as her. In exchange for Fujimaru never mentioning this again, Caren agrees to disclose only her own motive without saying whether it also applies to anyone else.

    Caren is not a spirit exorcist. Her calling is exorcizing devils. Big difference. Evil spirits are a form of retributive justice performed by human karma, while devils are ignorant and incompetent entities originating from a hemorrhage of demonic influence. She's been called the exorcist of exorcists in her introduction because her mission in the inn is to chain up bogus exorcists. Anyone here can exorcize spirits, but the definition of fake Caren is working off of is different here. To Caren, a sham is one who uses spirit exorcism as an excuse to usurp a family's fortunes. Property theft is the greatest form of evil. To catch the faker red-handed, she's searching for a sixth spring that can grant any wishes, which she believes Yoshisuke is hiding from the guests. Soujuurou notices someone watching them from the tallest window in the older building and runs to check. Caren excuses herself to go investigate the archive and lets the two go after him.

    Arriving at the attic, the group fails to find the mysterious eavesdropper. Yoshisuke comes in and urges them to leave because the attic is the room of the Inverted Mirror. He tells the group the Inverted Mirror's backstory. A man owned Kumano Inn ages ago and heard rumors his daughter was having an affair with an assistant. Enraged, he banned the assistant and locked his daughter in the attic. The daughter insisted it wasn't her, but the owner was the first son of a prestigious family, so he would never lend ears to a woman trying to justify herself, not even his daughter. The confined girl went crazy and made up a story about how the assistant was bedding her reflection in the mirror, who was pretending to be her. Later it came to light that the affair was made up by the head clerk who hated the assistant, but by the time her innocence was proven, the girl was already gone. Not dead, just gone. But the falsely accused girl, full of bruises from her father's beatings, still appears in the mirror to chant that it wasn't her.

    The Inverted Mirror's room is safe while the sun is out, but even one white cloud may prove dangerous, so the group leaves. They question Yoshisuke about the sixth spring that can do anything. Yoshisuke claims the previous owner told him it exists but he never saw it. And the only place Yoshisuke never searched is behind the unopenable door. His recruitment of psychics started with hopes he'd find someone with the power to open the door, but no one succeeded and the attempts were met with the god's wrath, so now Kumano Inn is super haunted. Among the attempts, there was one monk who looked at the door and claimed Yoshisuke would need a wish-granting chalice to open it.

    The two investigation teams regroup in the Sky Suite and share findings. The group is working with the assumption that the sixth spring will only get water on the sixth day. But if that's the Singularity's Grail, no one used it. It's a Grail that you need a Grail to get. Anyone who can get to it, wouldn't need it in the first place. The unused Grail also would mean the Singularity was created by something else. The third Aoko speculates that someone from the first Aoko's original year wished to destroy the world, and the third Aoko warped to Kumano 2001 because she believed that's where she'd find the solution to this problem.

    The next question is why would someone wish to destroy the world. Alice reasons that the wish doesn't have to necessarily be that. If the culprit from the first Aoko's original year wished for something the world absolutely cannot allow, like for example a dead person coming back from the grave, that could indirectly trigger a world-ending glitch. The example makes the laymen point to Aoko as the cause of the problem, but Alice refutes the hypothesis by nonchalantly revealing the definition of Fifth Magic before steering the conversation back to the point.

    Wanwan-sama's folklore describes the entity as a creature that can grant wishes with the need for the Holy Grail, so Alice concludes that the Singularity was caused by whoever abused Wanwan-sama's power. Meanwhile, Soujuurou concludes that the killer is someone who thinks Aoko is competing with them for the sixth spring. That's all for Fujimaru's findings, so next they discuss Tobimaru's findings.

    Shirou's witness account: From his window, he could hear two women fight by the hot springs. He could recognize one of the voices as Bazett but didn't know the other voice.

    Sugitani's witness account:
    Bazett doesn't have a room in the inn. She sleeps at Caren's. Neither of the two has been in their room today, but Caren was seen outside hunting spirits.

    So Caren is our lead to catch Bazett red-handed. Tobimaru and Mash go block the entrance to her room. Fujimaru, Aoko, and Soujuurou go check if Caren is still investigating the archive as she said she would. Alice chooses to go with Fujimaru because she believes she's the only one with a chance of winning a fight in there.

    The story is locked until the team has 5000 exorcism points.

    Yoshisuke is standing guard at the archive's entrance to warn people that the Devil's Classroom is active. Someone was probably possessed there, judging by the noise, and saving them is not worth the risk. Fujimaru will save the haunting's victim anyway, so Yoshisuke's advice to defeat the Devil's Classroom is "Don't break any doll in the archive". Inside the archive, the party is attacked by poltergeist dolls.

    Hehehe. Why, seems like I have fresh students on my hands. Welcome, welcome, to the Devil's Classroom. The artist's path is a grim and perilous one. Not unlike the path leading to the peak of a holy mountain. Even in using up all of one's soul, it is not enough. All that awaits there is burnout, despair, and self-harm. And I will free you from such suffering. By making you into lifeless puppets! Yes, be afraid! For I am known as the most difficult of the haunts among the Five Horrors! My name is that of the Devil of Beauty, God Caren!
    Caren Ortensia is a Channeler of Harm. Her body has the huge downside of getting possessed by any spirit she comes across. The Devil of Beauty possessed Caren's body, and instead of telling that she hijacked the spirit, she claims that it's loose beyond her control. Caren's Devil Puppets attack to turn the detectives into God's labor force. Alice drops Diddle Diddle, but this room plays by Caren's rules and she had already established in advance the rule that Ploys can't awaken inside the inn.

    [ <-Battle where you can't use Soujuurou. Wave 1 is 3 Devil Puppets and 1 Super Strap Sculpture. Wave 2 is 1 cursed cane, 1 wobble doll, and 2 Hell's Workers. Wave 3 is 2 Aztec masks-> ]

    Aoko and Fujimaru destroyed a total of 10 pieces of art in battle and were inflicted with an intense desire to build dolls. Caren provides them with amateur kits and explains that the devil won't curse them if they can make 10 identical dolls to replace all the ones they broke. The two get to work and Aoko quickly designs her first doll with Elvis Presley hair. 10 dolls later, the two are still working. Soujuurou questions the rules and Caren reinforces that they need to make identical dolls. Aoko made the first doll, but the next few had millimetric differences, so they didn't pass. Dolls being identical isn't a matter of appearance either. All dolls need to be made with the exact same movements as the first one.

    God Caren: Until you can manage that, you will have to toil in eternal creation. You will have to continue these meaningless studies in art until your life, no, your very soul is wasted away!

    Fujimaru Ritsuka: Living hell. That's impossible for anything except machines!

    God Caren: Hohoho. It appears you've come to understand the beauty of automation, yes? You just can't help but be moved by videos of screws being assembled through the same motion over and over again, right?

    Aozaki Aoko: Why the heck is the Devil of Beauty finding beauty in machines? That's where artistry goes to die, isn't it!?

    God Caren: Say whatever you want, but if you cannot get to the level of a machine, this curse won't be lifted. However, such precise work is impossible for a human. You will have to toil here as my labor force for the rest of etern...

    Shizuki Soujuurou; Done. Here's the tenth. That's the curse done with, isn't it?

    God Caren: Umm... Wait, what?

    Kuonji Alice: While you were gloating, Shizuki went on to make puppets in their stead. Ten puppets, made with the same motions. Not a millimeter, not a second different from the last.
    Caren can feel the satisfied Devil of Beauty leaving her and Aoko wants to give it a beating before it does. A desperate Caren pulls out her High-Grade Custom to protect her.

    [ <-Battle against God Caren, God's sculpture (Baby Caren), and the devil's vestiges. Forced support Aoko or Soujuurou.-> ]

    Caren goes back to normal and we finally question her about Bazett. Bazett has been hiding from everyone the entire day, and now that Caren learned it's because of an argument with Aoko last night, she has an instant theory for what happened. Bazett killed the second Aoko and spent the day sobbing in shame in Hell Hall. The way the second Aoko's face caved matches with the murder weapon being Bazett's fists.

    Before they leave to test Caren's theory, she asks them what was Soujuurou's trick to beat the Devil's Classroom. Humans cannot repeat the same motions with less than a millimeter of error. If they could, sports would lose all purpose. Devil Caren mentioned automation but Soujuurou's case is the opposite of that.

    Quote Originally Posted by Kuonji Alice

These motions that everyone performs unconsciously actually mobilize tens, hundreds, of muscles to actualize. They are very complex, consuming great mental effort to reproduce. However... Humans move through commands sent by the brain, but the actual work done by the cerebral cortex is approximate and vague. Even simple calculations or choices done by just the cerebral cortex can be wrong. Even one's personality can become imprecise. It's the basal nuclei that make this "mundane automation" possible to perform so easily. Without the assistance of the basal nuclei, humans would not be able to live as easily as they currently do. Then...what do you think life would be like for someone in which the basal nuclei did not work? Even ordinary things like walking or simply raising one's hand would require tremendous effort. It would be sensical to think that they would spend their life in a hospital, or require the aid of a machine. But HE can actually move his body just like we do, naturally and without issue. There's us, who can move our limbs through the aid of the basal nuclei without fully grasping our bodies... And then there's him, who has to strain his thoughts for every motion while fully grasping every inch of his body. And that's all there was to it. A mechanism divorced from any artistry, yet truly artistic in its own way. Repeating the same motion with less than a millimeter of error? To him, that's practically the same as breathing.

    In Hell Hall, Bazett sees Aoko alive and immediately assumes she brought the whole crew for Round 2. This time she has Fragarach equipped and politely asked her opponents not to use curses or frights because she's vulnerable to those.

    [ <- Battle against Bazett The Hardpuncher. Bazett has Fragarach on 100% of the time, invincibility that only goes away if she gets stunned, a higher instadeath rate, and the curse damage she takes is multiplied by 10 -> ]

    Bazett falls and considers this a victory for Aozaki Touko. Just what she deserved for running off without proving her innocence. She resigns to her fate of becoming a guinea pig for the infamous dollmaker's drugs and cyborg implements. Aoko tells Bazett she got the wrong sister. After some pressure, the Bazett admits she was the first discoverer for the second Aoko. She saw the way the second Aoko's face was smashed and immediately assumed she'd get blamed, but instead of coming clean, she planned to stay under the radar until everyone forgot about her.

    Flashback to Bazett sneaking into the Love Fulfilled Spring at 1 AM, lying to herself that she doesn't believe in its effect. Aoko is there, and in a panic, Bazett says "N-n-no way, why are you here?! No one was supposed to be here!?" in the same code used for the Lahmus dialogue in Babylonia. Bazett delivered "perfectly sincere assertions" that she didn't go there to go into the bath, and switched plans to waiting in a massage chair until 5 AM for a normal and believable morning bath. When the time came, Bazett returned to the Love Fulfilled Spring, found Aoko's body, and went hiding. Bazett didn't see anyone else enter the bathing area during her 4 hours of wait. Alice asks why Bazett didn't kill Aoko if they competition for a wishing spring, and Bazett answers that Aoko had her clothes on, so she clearly didn't come to take a bath.

    Bazett and Caren apologize for the trouble they caused and get ready to leave the inn. Caren reveals that they came for the Love Fulfilled Spring because Bazett was in a risky missing and didn't want to die single, but Bazett insists she was just here to refresh in normal hot springs so she can be in top shape for her job of investigating Touko. Bazett advises the detective to find her missing suitcase containing the briefing documents for her operation. The intel didn't make much sense to Bazett, but maybe the group investigating the mountain can see things she doesn't. They can open her suitcase with the password 20051028.

    Back in the Sky Suite, Tobimaru looks at the current state of the suspect list. Only Ryougi, Shirou, Sugitani, Fujinon, Yoshisuke, and Kashinko left. Out of those, Sugitani and Fujinon are the ones whose motives we know the least about. Despite that, Shirou and Ryougi are still the biggest suspects because the motive they provided, ordinary vacations, is not something one would go to a haunted inn for. Still, with how much smaller the suspect list got, Tobimaru is confident tomorrow's investigation can already get everyone's motives sorted.

    Mash asks Alice to elaborate on her previous example of a wish to revive the dead as something bad enough to trigger the end of the world. Alice explains that reviving the dead itself is harmless and the real problem is creating precedent. It's a hard rule of the world that the dead can't come back to life. If, by some exception, someone revives the dead, that will open leeway for other rare exception cases of resurrection. These exception cases eventually pile up into rules, and that would cause resurrection to continue to lose rarity until it becomes normal. That's how you create a world where the dead roam the earth just like in the movie Dawn of the Dead. ((Thank you so much for finally giving me an idea for what happened to the world of Requiem))

    For tomorrow's investigation, Mash will go with Tobimaru again, while Fujimaru will take Aoko and Soujuurou. The Devil's Classroom is exorcised, but its rule is still preventing new Ploys from awakening, so Alice will stay safe in the room until she's able to fight again. Tobimaru wishes he were in the open-air bath again, but it was reserved for the Ryougi family tonight. Everyone goes to sleep and wakes up the next morning, during their morning chat, they hear two gunshots in the bathing area. Fujimaru can already guess what happened.

    What if the killer is Touko? They keep going after Aoko, the Ryougis are here, the area's main culture is making dolls... I know they didn't announce Touko as a Servant but there's meta signs pointing to her.

    ok, my current guess on where this event is going; Day of the Doctor

    God dammit Aoko, i know you hate people like yourself, but can you seriously not hold back enough to gather a army of Aoko`s to fight this "Wish upon a star"?

    i guess it would be funny if the Ryougi family trip actually includes Azaka and Touko too, its just that everyone is banished to the 5th floor and we only ever see Shiki
    would explain Fujino being here too, if Azaka is .

    also, did Comun`s finger slip from 8 to 5 in the numpad, or just a jab at dumb password security.... 12345 is dumb and common, 12346 is unexpected

    Which I really hope they release soon, I want to see the Aoko vs Touko fight with a remix of the Five theme.

    (Is this supposed to mean "instead of Caren hijacking the spirit, the spirit hijacked Caren"?)

    EDIT: Also, the release date for hollow as on the wiki and elsewhere seems to be October 28, not 25. Did Nasu get it wrong in-universe or is that a typo?

    Dysfunction of the basal ganglia results in a wide range of neurological conditions including disorders of behaviour control and movement, as well as cognitive deficits that are similar to those that result from damage to the prefrontal cortex. Those of behaviour include Tourette syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and addiction. Movement disorders include, most notably Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and more rarely hemiballismus.
    just sayin

    Brain mistake rather than finger mistake.
