writing an 'actual true magus' - has not been tried and found impossible. it has been found difficult, and left untried.

Expresses the exceeding size of one's library.
Books are extremely many, loaded on an oxcart the ox will sweat.

Okay, but would such character even interest in the first place? Why would I want to read a story about a unsocial jerk just being an unsocial jerk and never changing?

Reading a work with a "pure" magus seems like an exercise in masochism, frankly. I can't imagine many people would enjoy spending hours upon hours staring at the feverish mind of a unidimensional, predictable madman.
And if that happens to be one's thing, I'd bet there are lots of fanfics written by edgy teenagers that would suit their tastes.
Incorrect.

so ppl never played Mahoyo huh.
What, that most people would not enjoy it? Or are you referring to the "exercise in masochism" part?
I mean, I unfortunately do not speak japanese (yet). I don't speak French either, since I passed that one up to study German. As far as I know, Aoko is far from a stereotypical magi. Am I incorrect in thinking that?
Alice is pure magus.
I'm aware of that. From what I've heard, though, she is a deuteragonist, with Aoko and Sojuro as the protagonists whose thoughts we actually have access to. Am I incorrect in thinking that?
I ask this because my whole point was that spending an entire story witnessing the mind of a magus would be tortuous.

bingo
"Tohsakayou, you……!"
A voice filled with deep resentment.
"Geez, I guess it can't be helped."
She stops, and says goodbye to the boy that used to be the successor.
"Fine, this is the end, so I'll tell you.
Those who aim farther for others' sake. Those who think of others before themselves. …And those who hate themselves more than anyone.
These are the qualities of a magus. There is a place you can't reach, no matter how much talent you have.
…Humph. I never thought anyone would meet this condition. This is a contradiction you can only have if you're born broken."
"Shinji. You're a good example of someone who nurtures a needless inferiority complex by despising others. You love yourself so much that you believe everyone else is below you, even when they are superior in every way.
…You're empty inside. The only one who thinks you're full is you, and you're just like a balloon. Your destination changes depending on the wind."
"Uhguh."

Pretty sure a pure magi story would just invoke audience apathy within a hour or two.
Is that not exactly what Zero was?
Sure, there are plenty of legitimate criticisms we can level against Zero, but I don't recall too many people saying "I just didn't care about what was happening." And it even had the handicap of the basic premise of the story spoiling the conclusion.
I honestly can't get my head around the idea that "a story about a 'pure' magus would be boring." That's like on par with saying F/SN can't be interesting because "a story about a high schooler would be boring."
