Personality, Lore, Wish
Íkaros didn’t accomplish much in life, but it has nonetheless impacted history, art and philosophy. The myth of his fall has been interpreted in uncountable ways: the proud falling from grace, the inconsequential youth failing to heed his elders, the consequences of going against one’s parents, humanity’s innate desire for ascension, the hubris of attempting self-deification, the self-destructive impulse to free oneself’s soul from its mortal coil, the impossibility of happiness in a logical world…
While that is already an incredibly varied legacy to leave behind, this Servant goes even further. Íkaros is not the only component of Alter-Ego, he is a High-Servant that houses the spirits of two other beings:
Phaethon. The representation of planet Jupiter. Son of the oceanid, Clymene, and the god of the sun, Sol. When the legitimacy of his divine blood was challenged, Phaethon went to meet his father in order to confirm his heritage. He asked the sun god for proof of their relationship, and in turn, Sol swore to give him anything he desired.
The boy asked to ride the Sun Chariot for a day, but Sol was adamantly against it. He warned the boy of all the dangers involved, fearing that this gift would be fatal. Phaethon was unconvinced, and so, unable to go against his oath, he lent the boy his chariot.
Phaethon was unable to maneuver the vehicle, control the wild fire-horses and avoid the fearsome constellations in the sky all at the same time. He let go of the reins and the chariot flew up and down, uncontrolled. It grazed the Earth, scorching its surface and drying up all water around it, then gained altitude rapidly and got too far from it, freezing vast stretches of land.
Tired of it all, the Earth asked Jupiter to intervene, and so he did. Phaethon was stricken by a bolt of lightning and stumbled out of the chariot, falling to his death like a blazing comet.
Lucifer. The representation of the morning star, Venus. Son of the goddess of dawn, Aurora. Although that is his origin, mistranslation and misinterpretation have associated his name with the Devil in Christianity. This connection is much stronger and long-lasting than Lucifer’s original self, and as such, has basically supplanted his original myth.
The Devil Lucifer is the representation of Pride, one of the Seven Deadly Sins, manifested most strongly through attempts at self-deification. He attempted to be as God Himself, and for his crime, was cast down from the heavens unto the Earth like lightning, much like Venus makes its way through the sky before all other stars.
In essence, Alter-Ego is the fall of those who aim too high.
He is the crystallization of an allegory meant to teach a lesson, even if which lesson is being taught changes from time to time, from person to person.
The two spirits have very little influence in Íkaros’ personality, but he’s still thoroughly twisted due to Innocent Monster. Parts of who he was in life are still here, such as being naďve and airheaded. It’s hard for him to focus on anything for too long and even harder for him to grasp the seriousness of any situation he’s involved in.
But aside from that, much of how he acts has been shaped by the personal skill. He’s absurdly proud, believing himself to be akin to a god and giving him incredible confidence on his own abilities in a variety of areas. The problem is that he’s actually quite clumsy and incompetent, something he’s incapable of understanding, no matter how obvious his lack of ability is or how hard he fails.
Class Skills
High Servant C.
A skill that displays one is a complex of different Heroic or Divine Spirits.
Íkaros,
Phaethon and
Lucifer are the ones making up the Spiritual Core of this Servant. Moreover, he calls himself “Íkaros”, and it is this spirit who seems to be at the forefront at all times.
Divine Core of the Gods B.
A skill that represents one is a god. It is also a composite skill that includes Divinity.
Being composed of one Heroic Spirit and two minor Divine Spirits, Íkaros’ rank in this skill should actually be quite low, but the staunch belief in his own superior divinity brought about by
Innocent Monster has managed to modify even this.
Of course, a skill so tied to the nature of a Heroic Spirit couldn’t have been acquired by self-suggestion
alone. The deciding factor was actually an anecdote about his flight.
It’s said that when he and Daedalus flew over entire islands on the way to their freedom, many looked up at them and saw them as gods.
That a citizen of Greece would confuse humans with gods, even if they were performing such awesome acts, is quite interesting. Perhaps there was something
truly divine in Daedalus’ creations.
Riding EX.
A skill denoting the ability to ride mounts and vehicles. At this rank, it is possible for her to operate all vehicles and beasts freely.
All three of the spirits composing Íkaros are actually most suited for the Rider class, and all possess
unorthodox rides, namely: artificial wings, the sun chariot and the brightest of all stars. As such, they receive the highest rank possible in this skill.
Currently, Íkaros is making use of the
Wings of Daedalus, a powerful mystic code that enable one to fly at incredible speeds. Íkaros will often deliberately put himself in dangerous situations only to fly away as far as possible in an act of mockery.
Magic Resistance D.
This skill grants protection against magical effects. At this rank, it nullifies any magecraft less than D in rank. It is a protection of the same degree of an amulet that rejects magical energy.
Being composed of three spirits who lived in the Age of Gods, one would expect his rank to be much higher, but since all of their legends focus on how they were struck down by mystics, it has been severely ranked-down.
Personal Skills
Innocent Monster (Allegory) A.
An attribute possessed by servants whose true history and existence have been distorted by the monstrous reputations and gossips they accrued across the course of their life and thereafter, without concern for the actual person’s will and appearance, it is similar to a curse and cannot be removed.
As the main characters in tales meant to warn others about the dangers of pridefully aiming too high, it’s only natural that one would assume they are
as prideful as it gets.
Independent Action A+.
The ability to remain independent even when rejecting the Magical Energy supply from one's Master. At this rank, the support of a Master is unnecessary even while unleashing a large amount of Magical Energy and it is possible for a Servant to stay in the world even after the conclusion of a Holy Grail War.
All three components of Íkaros display the inclination to act independently. Flying away in bliss while ignoring his father’s advice. Riding the sun chariot without the help of Sol. Refusing to be under anyone, even the almighty God. Truly, Alter-Ego is a
rebellious soul.
Remembrance Correction A.
People are creatures that attempt to remember and grow from their mistakes, but the callous always forget. As one who lives in the moments, the possessor of this skill is more vulnerable to surprise attacks.
As Alter-Ego is defined by the mistakes he made, he
cannot be allowed to remember its consequences, lest he might actually
learn and grow from them. No matter what happens to him, his selective memory will work to keep up the
illusion of superiority.
Noble Phantasm(s)
Πέφτοντας Φωτιά Άγγελος
My Wings, Alight in Starfire
.
Perfect world - wings by linasidorova
Type: Anti-Self
Rank: D
Falling Fire Angel. The Wings of Daedalus are encased in heavenly fire and transform, acquiring the machine-like appearance of the Sun Chariot. However, since the light of the sun is what is meant to assail the integrity of the wings, they will immediately start to deteriorate and fall apart. Íkaros will then start falling, but not at regular speeds. The wings will propel him downward at a high velocity, encasing the boy in a sphere of starlight as bright as the morning star on the night skies.
This fall is followed by a stream of tempestuous smoke that spews out lightning all around, following him until the disastrous impact that is able to scorch an incredibly vast area.
This Noble Phantasm cannot be willingly activated by Íkaros and, in fact, he’s not even aware that it exists. It can come into effect automatically due to a variety of factors, such as an attempt to summon the Sun Chariot or to leave the atmosphere as well as being struck by lightning or hit by attacks containing the concept of the sun. It’ll also be triggered if Remembrance Correction is sealed somehow, causing him to remember his falls.
This is a self-destructive Noble Phantasm that causes enough damage to kill Íkaros many times over on the moment of impact. If he is somehow able to preserve the integrity of his Spiritual Core, then “Alter-Ego” won’t die and his second Noble Phantasm will be triggered.
Fall of the Prideful
Hubris-Fueled Self-Demonization
.
fire demon by Egor Grishin
Type: Conceptual Enhancement
Rank: A
When Íkaros fell, he met his death.
When Phaethon fell, he died, and fiery devastation followed him.
When Lucifer falls, he simply disappears on the horizon until the next night.
But that’s not what people believe to have happened to “Lucifer”.
No matter what, Falling Fire Angel will kill Íkaros and Phaethon, which means that, if Alter-Ego survives, only Lucifer will be left.
His Innocent Monster (Allegory) becomes Innocent Monster (Devil). In a recreation of legend, he has just been struck from the skies by and is now ready to assume his position as the enemy of God, the King of Hell.
Alter-Ego will assume a massive demonic form that spews fire all throughout its body and moves to burn down anything in its path. Its shape is the consequence of Lucifer’s Innocent Monster, its flames are the burning fires of Sol that melted the wax on Íkaros’ wings, and its drive for destruction are a reconstruction of the consequences of Phaethon’s actions.
An amalgam of left over skills that happen to shape him into the stereotypical role of a demonic monster.
This transformation will last until the next nightfall, when Lucifer is supposed to rise from his fall into the night sky. The son of Aurora will be back in control, but not for long. Rid of the power granted by his Noble Phantasm, he will not be able to stabilize the Saint Graph that is now missing two thirds of itself, and will simply die on the spot.
A set of Noble Phantasms intent on punishing Íkaros for his unwarranted pride and showcasing the consequences of his hubris to all who watch. Even considering his myth, this seems a bit much.
Perhaps it’s because he’s a High-Servant. That is not a natural occurrence, but the result of purposeful meddling.
Who, or what, designed these three to be united under a single Saint Graph? And for what reason?
Relationships
Zahhāk-e Mārdoush: “Imagine needing help so much you’d ask it from a snake. C’mon dude, have some self-respect…”
Aži Dahāka: “I’ll end up like that? It’s hilarious that you believe that ahahaha. You’re funny snake-man, at least you’re doing things yourself unlike that other guy. Where did he go anyway?”
Mr. Glass: “Why are you so upset that I broke that one ball of glass? Your masterpiece?
WOW. Okay, let’s do this: to make up for “accidently” “breaking” your “masterpiece” I’ll give you some lessons about aesthetic, deal?”
Priapus: “I'm bigger btw”
Daedalus: “Oh, hey dad. Hear me out, people are saying some crazy stuff about how your wings failed, you can’t let that happen! I know I could’ve convinced them that they are perfect if I just told them I helped you make it, but I don’t want to take that away from you alright?”
Pérdix: “What is it, Master? Pérdix was looking for me? Ugh. The dude just won’t stop trying to help me out or whatever. I don’t hate having an errand boy but the dude is weird, ok? I’m pretty sure he thinks I can’t do the stuff I’m leaving up to him, which is super offensive. Honestly, I think me giving him so much attention is getting to his head.”
?????????? ?????: “No. NonononononONONO! Get me out! You can't leave me here! This is not fair. I didn't fall!! I DID NOT FALL!! It's so hot... Dad? Where are you? It burns. TELL HIM TO GET ME OUT! SOMEONE!!”
