The really weird thing is the people involved. Since that means that Zouken and Justicia/Justeaze/whateverthehellhernameis were two out of the three people fighting each other despite her being Zouken's motivation for wanting immortality in the first place (come to think of it, was it her death here that got him off on that kick?), and the third is Tohsaka, who was always seen as kind of a nonentity, magus-wise. I wonder how it ended up in bloody conflict?

Justeaze died in the creation of the greater grail to my understanding. Zouken probably joined the war just because some Einzbern talked trash about how his waifu will let other people use the grail.

He didn't want to become immortal originally. He ended up extending his life over and over so he could accomplish his dream of WORLD PEACE, but he became so old that he forgot his original goal and ended up just pursuing extending his life as a goal rather than a means.

Also, I was going to add +1 to Fate/stay away by Arashi_Leonhart, but realized that it wasn't on the list to add to as yet, so:

Fate/stay away -- A series of vignettes encompassing the Fate route with Shirou summoning Saber Alter in Saber's place. While the events play out more or less as they did in canon, the changes in their relationship occasioned by Saber's different personality are heartfelt and well-described. Plus well-above-average smut in the lemon parts.

Because sometimes, every once in a while, Sturgeon's Law smiles at you and you realize there's still a reason to browse fanfiction.net:

Heaven's Side Story by OldManDempsey. A film-noiresque UF piece in which an OC private eye helps Rin track down a stolen magical item that's leaving a bloody trail through London's conventional underworld. A good, concise story and entertaining narrative voice make for a solid, atmospheric read.

+1ing the false penguin's vote for Heaven's Side Story. That was wicked good. For some odd reason I kept thinking of DDD which is weird because it had nothing to do with it at all. Well written one shot that tells a fairly straightforward story in the Nasuverse that would fulfill Leo's "there can be only one" thread's criteria. It hit like 8 buttons I have; namely a totally mundane person neck deep in the secret world.
