If I remember it correctly, you can only summon HSes in the Berserker class if they had an episode of wrath or insanity.

Heaven knows how they'll justify Ragnar, though. "When he strangled Lagerda's beasts, he was lost in a battle frenzy"? "When Eric and Agnar were killed, he went mad with grief"? "When he decided to try and conquer England with only a single ship, he was bugfrakk nuts"?

I'm betting on the simple "he's an ancient Norse warrior wannabe so he gets self-proclaimed berserk status".

For "ancient Norse warrior" as a complete pack. He legitimately is Norse and legitimately is a warrior (and he arguably is ancient for our standards), but he's not in the same category as his idols.

Dragon-slaying, defeating Starkadr* and his seven sons in single combat, literally fighting an army by himself...

    * Who may or may not have been the same Starkadr of legends.

But that's a tangent. What I'm really annoyed with is how plausible your explanation sounds.

Do they have to? Last time I tried to find the justification for Lu Bu being a berserker in Fate I couldn't find a single line saying "he's a berserker because he went mad during this episode of his life".

I thought anyone could be summoned as Berserker if you add the extra phrase Kariya used to the summoning chant?

I thought the line guaranteed you summoned the Berserker version of the hero, but they still needed to qualify for the class.

    Spoiler:
Tonelico: Ha—Haha. Ahaha. Hahaha. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...!!!! I don't know anymore. If even this can't work, I have no faith in the innate goodness of living things. What point is there in understanding? The effort turned out a total waste. Despite the many times I knew I had been betrayed, I still clung to a thin thread of hope. I failed again this time because I fixated on such a thing. If I want Britain to survive, then 'saving' it is the wrong course of action. I will humor this no longer. No longer will I play the role of savior. I will establish a different, better system. Yes...I will not save the fairies. I will not pardon the fairies.

making bersekers talk is good for story telling. In FSN herc was a giant mook that was essentally a big monster. Its good for having an obstacle for the heroes to overcome and bad if you want an actual character. Now they want a character with personality and the ability to converse. Your gunna need more than rawr as something they can say hence the talking berserker.

Must apologise to OnesFleetingGlory, wasn't thinking earlier and posted over in the translation thread instead of here. So yeah, question, any theories on why Ragnar is hiding his axe in a guitar case or did the author just really want to give him the rocker look?

My guess is he just thinks it looks cool. But theory: maybe it's not actually the weapon he was summoned with so he can't dematerialize it?

I think the subtitle for each volume is going to follow the code geass scheme and be like:
    Noun の Servant Name.

While this wouldn't work for Ragnar due to Aslaug's amnesia, Servant pairing gives the opportunity for one Servant to potentially work as an "interpreter" for a rawr Berserker like they do some times in GO.

Man, Chen Gong and Lu Bu really would be a great pair for a Doubles War. I mean it as a reader, not as a Master, of course. They're a pair you immediately know how the Master dies.

I have to assume it will be addressed, either there's some cheat going on with the Grail ("primordial runes don't think too hard about it") or the Servants are way weaker than normal.

Yeah, probably like Dante from Devil May Cry. Either that or it could be that he can't dematerialise like Artoria.
It could also be that Servants from this Subspecific Holy Grail War can't dematerialise because of the grail, so they are forced to disguise themselves.
