True or not (and this particular one almost certainly isn't), the legend is well-known enough that I'd expect to see it referenced somewhere in a Catherine the Great sheet...

Changed Gudrún's theme to Blood and Guts and Guts and Blood from the Berserk 2016 OST because after doing Grímhild's sheet and re-doing Helgi's I've found that, yeah, Berserk is the only way to go with these tales.

Grímhild is so evil, I love it.

Also I went through most of the completed sheets and corrected some spellings and alignments and whatnot. Small stuff.

    Wise UP

Banner (バナー, Banā), Flag Bearer and Heroic Spirit of the Emblem, is one of the Throne classes among the variety of classes summoned for the Holy Grail War. Servants placed within this class are those known for being an icon of inspiration, perseverance, and victory during their lives. They have low attributes except for Luck and tended toward having a powerful, conceptual NP. They have the class ability of Charisma, a rare talent consisting of a person's charm as well as the ability to unifies those under them for a single cause.

Class: Banner (can also be summoned as Saber)
    Alignment: Lawful Good
    Gender: Female
    Source: Biblical
    Place of Origin: France
    Rarity: ★★★★
    Height & Weight: 148 cm, 33 kg
Likes: The LORD, her friends, fishes.
    Dislikes: N/A
Talents: Being a Disney Princess (Fake)
    Natural Enemy: N/A
    Attribute: Star
    Element Affinity: Earth
Personality: Banner is quiet and meek, preferring not to raise hands against even those who meant her harm. Nevertheless, she possesses the attribute of a lioness, courageously encouraging them to
    martyrdom
    victory
    .

    Parameters:
    STR: E
    END: B
    AGI: D
    MGI: B
    LUK: A
    Noble Phantasm: A

    Skills:
    Spoiler:

    Class Skills:
    Charisma: A
At this point it is no longer popularity or skill, but rather a kind of spell (curse) in itself. An army led by her will surely reaches the promised victory. Far from a firebrand orator, the sources of her inspiring presence is her acceptance of death.

    Personal Skills:
    N/A

She would have had skills relating to animals and revelation were she summoned in a combat class. Still, she was just inspiring slave girl - there are limits to her skills.

    Noble Phantasm:
    Spoiler:

O mort, oů est ta victoire? O mort, oů est ton aiguillon?
    Crown of Immortality
    Anti-Unit
    Rank A

A flower wreath worn by Blandina. In contrast to her plain garment, the activation of this NP caused the petals to glides a shining gold, symbolizing the triumph of the Saints.

An <<Absolute Defense>> type NP of a different principle from
    Shield of Promised Absolution
    Aegis
    and
    The Everdistant Utopia
    Avalon
, Crown of Immortality resets Blandina's HP value to maximum at the end of each turn. Even an attack that caused instant death will not be able to prevent this effect unless they possess an especial compatibility or greater conceptual weight. Despite the powerful effects, this NP is incredibly prana efficient due to being central to the mythos of martyrdom; the costs is subsidized by the weight and prevalence of the NP, as well as the fact that her legend was that she encourages many to attains it. In the end, their death begins the wheel of changes that led Christianity to flourishes.

As an aside, even a calm-hearted woman like Blandina will find her brows twitching in irritation if you reminds her that the holy artifact operates on a similar concept to the Dead Apostle's Curse of Restoration.

    Legend:
    Spoiler:

    Faceclaim:

A timid girl of plain features. She is clad in a drab red robe, and the colorful characters of Heroic Spirits of legend would surely dismisses her as a non-entity were they to encounter her, an NPC who'd thanks them for being rescued, mayhaps, or one of their adoring fans. She is utterly unremarkable saves for her beautiful flower wreath.

Blandina led a humble life, a simple slave. It was a time of prosecution of Christians in the Roman Empire, and she was arrested, along with her mistress. Her mistress was afraid that Blandina's weak constitution would cause her to recant her faith, but Blandina answered “I am a Christian and we commit no wrongdoing.”

She would hold onto her faith in the faces of torturers, who exhausted themselves in their vile works before her resolve. Her shining example leading her companions to held onto their faith as well. Even wild beasts respected her; it was said that they would not harm her, despite the coaxing of their masters.

Surrounded by smiling faces, Blandina died without regrets.

    — She has won, after all.

    Note:
    Spoiler:
She is a bonafide Saint, so she should have qualified for the illustrious skill of the same name; it seems that her attitude prevented her from gaining the skill, however - well, maybe that in itself makes her more worthy of it? Her only chances of victory is in a non-standard Fate/Ancient RTS type Grail War. Otherwise, she'd likely make you and herself green tea and leisurely spends the War watching cloud rolls by.

Incidentally, lioness attribute is supposed to be a pun on the fact that she's from Lyons.

This is an aside, but as one of the earlier martyrs and one of the most strongly tied with the Crown of Immortality, she equalizes very well with Jesus of Narzareth~Son of God. As a Saber, she would have poor attributes, good Riding, great Mag. Resist. and Noble Phantasms Crown of Immortality and
    Fierysword of the Archangel

Blandina is interesting, but I don't think any Heroic Spirit no matter how weak should really have no Personal Skills at all. I'd suggest giving her either Saint or Soul Of A Martyr, some beast-taming related Skill and maybe even Weak Constitution (since you described her with those exact words in the lore section).

    Servant Assassin:

True Name: Tokoyo "The Daddy's Girl Dragon Slayer"

    Alignment: Neutral Good

    Strength- D
    Agility- A+
    Endurance- C+
    Mana- E
    Luck- B
    NP- C+

Equipment: A simple and elegant Tanto dagger that Assassin carries concealed in her clothing. Though not a true Noble Phantasm, having tasted the blood of a dragon- the strongest of the Phantasmal Races- it deals greatly increased damage against monstrously aligned foes, especially the Dragon-Kind. This dagger is also an heirloom from Assassin's beloved father, and one she treasures close to her heart as proof of their familial bond.

    Appearance:

    By F5 on Pixiv

    Personality
: Wild, cheerful and adventurous. A true "daddy's girl", she idolizes her father from the bottom of her heart and would undergo nearly any hardship for his sake. Incredibly determined; once Assassin sets her mind on an objective then nothing, come Hell or high water, will make her turn her back on its completion. She also has a very strong, uncompromising sense of justice that belies her carefree manner and abhors those who'd sacrifice others for any supposed "greater good".

In the Grail War, Assassin will almost surely come to view any older male Master as a substitute father-figure and adore them similarly. She enjoys swimming and deep-sea diving particularly, finding it immensely relaxing to dive under the waters and let all her earthly cares float away. Assassin also picks up a notable fondness bordering on obsession for Eastern martial arts flicks in the modern day. In her spare time, she can often be caught trying to come up with overly dramatic names for her attacks in the style of such movies.
Because of her past experiences, Assassin's animosity with those who fought against their father figures in life (such as Mordred) and those who believed in
    Utilitarianism
sacrificing the few for the many
(such as Kiritsugu Emiya) is particularly great. If she encounters such people, Assassin will assuredly come to blows with them sooner or later.

Assassin's wish on the Holy Grail is to be able to bring her father up into the Throne Of Heroes with her, so they can truly be together forever.

Likes: her father, martial arts movies
Dislikes: sacrificing the few for the many, being separated from her father
    Talents: deep-sea diving, dragon-slaying
Natural Enemy: Yofune-Nushi, Mordred, Kiritsugu Emiya

    Class Skills:

    Presence Concealment- N/A
Ability to cut off one's presence as a Heroic Spirit. However, the efficacy of this Skill declines sharply the moment one prepares to attack. As Assassin's talent for subterfuge is instead expressed through her Personal Skill- Sacrificial Maiden (False), she lacks the Presence Concealment that her Class would normally possess.

    Personal Skills:

    Sacrificial Maiden (False)- C
A Skill held by those who were intended as sacrifices to appease the gods or ravenous beasts. In Assassin's case, she possesses only an imposter's variant of this Skill, due to having willingly offered herself up in place of the true sacrifice and in fact slaying the very monster she was intended as tribute to.

This Skill dilutes her true presence as a warrior, insuring that those around her view Assassin as no more than a delicate and frail maiden unable to defend herself. Furthermore, her maidenly allure is nigh-irresistible to those of a monstrous alignment, who are naturally driven to obsession over the prospects of ravaging and devouring her fair form. All monsters in the vicinity become fixated on attacking only Assassin, to the point of neglecting their surroundings and other combatants.

While most normal people would find this Skill to be a horrible curse, for Assassin it simply makes the task of slaying her bestial foes all the easier. Too enamored with her waifish exterior to even consider the possibility that their "helpless prey" could fight back, they fall easily before Assassin's trusty dagger.

Just like the analogous ability normally held by the Assassin Class, the effectiveness of her ruse is nullified the moment she reveals her true nature and attacks. Any semblance of a demure and vulnerable lady is instantly dispelled and replaced by that of a ferocious warrior-maiden.

    Aquatic Affinity- B
A Skill that denotes an increase in performance while fighting or manuevering underwater. At this rank, Assassin gains a notable increase in battle performance while in an aquatic environment, as well as being able to hold her breath for up to several minutes at a time even in pitched combat. Her natural fighting style compliments this affinity, taking advantage of her vastly increased mobility underwater to twist gracefully out of the path of enemy attacks and counter from unexpected angles.

Practically since she was old enough to walk, Assassin was a perfect swimmer who frequently practiced diving alongside the other woman of her village, gathering up pearls and other valuable trinkets from the sea-floor. In the most famous moment of her legend, Assassin's battle with the serpent-god Yofune-Nushi took place entirely in the depths of the beast's undersea cavern.

Outmaneuvering and slaying a Divine Beast of the seas in its native territory is truly a feat worthy of this Skill.

    Bravery- A
Ability to negate- through sheer fortitude of will- mental interference such as fear, confusion and despair. Also provides bonuses to melee damage.

Assassin was an astonishingly valiant girl who set off on a journey to find her exiled father all on her lonesome. No matter how many locals cautioned Assassin against her path and advised her to turn back from her dangerous journey, she continued to stubbornly venture ahead. When she came across a young maiden about to be thrown into the sea to satiate the local serpent-god Yofune-Nushi, Assassin begged the priest carrying out the ghoulish ritual to allow her to offer herself up in the girl's stead.

Assenting, both priest and girl could only look on in awe as Assassin donned the maiden's ceremonial dress and dove headlong off the cliff herself, plunging into the watery depths with only her trusty dagger clenched between her teeth. Once confronted face-to-face with the ravenous seadragon itself, Assassin forced herself to remain calm until it drew within range of her dagger, at which point she lashed out with a ferocious slash that blinded the beast in its right eye.

Showing both the bravery to offer up her own life for the sake of another, and the sheer audacity to confront a vicious dragon-god with nothing more than a flimsy dagger. Assassin truly is a warrior maiden to be both respected and feared.

    Independent Action- B
Ability to sustain oneself without a supply of magical energy from one's Master. At this rank, Assassin can linger in the world for up to two days in the absence of an active contract. Furthermore, she can also survive and keep fighting after extensive damage to her spiritual core.

Assassin travelled far and wide in search of her father, never giving up in the face of harsh terrain or unhelpful locals. Even as her heart was wracked with despair, Assassin persisted in pushing her body forward with an ironclad will, refusing to let her search come to an end until her beloved father was returned safely home.

    Noble Phantasms:

Dragon-Slaying Peerless Art- Spiral Blade Of The Water Lotus (C+, Anti-Unit): A Noble Phantasm crystallizing Assassin's defeat of the terrifying dragon-god Yofune-Nushi. Luring the monster up close by pretending to be a sacrifice, Assassin blinded Yofune-Nushi with a swift slash from her dagger. The two then engaged in furious combat, twisting and writhing around each other in the depths of the beast's undersea cavern, Yofune-Nushi lashing out with its claws and fangs and Assassin with her trusty dagger. Finally, Assassin slew the seadragon with a fateful slash to its throat, ending the struggle just before running out of breath and dragging its carcess to the surface.

This anecdote has been sublimated into the form of a technique-based Noble Phantasm that imitates the motions of her famous battle. Invoking its true name, Assassin unleashes an omnidirectional barrage of twisting, spiralling slashes with her dagger. With each slice, a shimmering blade of condensed water trails behind her blade, until Assassin appears to be at the center of a vicious raging whirlpool that sucks in and shreds apart anything unlucky enough to be caught nearby.

Every few strikes Assassin switches her grip on the dagger, alternating between wielding it in her hands, feet or even clenched between her teeth. While Assassin claims this is necessary to vary up the angle and direction of her attacks, in fact she really just does it to show off.

The motions are as elegant as they are deadly, evoking the imagery of a beautiful water lotus flowering on the battlefield. Reflecting how Assassin's initial blow against Yofune-Nushi blinded the dragon, the first of these strikes has a high chance of stunning the enemy and leaving them helpless to defend against the following barrage.

Though powerful on land, this Noble Phantasm's true potential can only be shown underwater. Combined with her greatly increased mobility while submerged, the technique becomes nearly impossible to block or evade by all but the most agile opponents, bombarding them with dozens of watery slashes from every angle and direction. Also, for obvious reasons it deals greater damage against foes with a draconic or divine attribute.

While her technique went nameless in life, as a Heroic Spirit Assassin has chosen to bestow it with this rather grandiose title. "Every Heroic Spirit has to have a named special move of their own, right? That's just how it works..." she says with a beaming smile. Really, she just watches too many cheesy martial arts flicks...

Takatoki No Zo- Curse-Breaking Idol (C, Anti-Curse): In the depths of Yofune-Nushi's cavern, Assassin came across an unusual sight- a small statue of the emperor Takatoki who banished her father tucked into a crevice. Angered at his visage, Assassin considered smashing the statue out of pique, but thought better of it. Instead, she hoisted the statue across her back and took it with her to the surface after defeating the wicked dragon.

Upon doing so, the illness afflicting the emperor was immediately dispelled. He realized that somebody had carved a statue bearing his image, cursed it and dropped it into the sea to be guarded over by the monstrous serpent. By finding the statue and returning it to the surface, Assassin had broken the curse and freed the emperor from his baffling sickness. Grateful, he reunited Assassin with her father and bestowed them both with great wealth and honor in regret for banishing his most loyal samurai.

Assassin still carries the statue of the emperor on her person, endowed with the conceptual attribute of dispelling curses. Radiating a gentle golden aura, any who touch the blessed statue are instantly cleansed of all illness or curses afflicting them. However, this Noble Phantasm is only effective on curses and similar maladies, not physical injuries the likes of broken bones or severed limbs. In RPG terms, it only cancels status ailments rather than restoring HP.

Upon invoking its true name, the statue emanates a shimmering golden Bounded Field that dispels all curses in the vicinity. Furthermore, curse-based sorceries below this Noble Phantasm's own rank are rendered impotent within the Bounded Field's area-of-effect, completely depriving those who rely on such arts of their malefic power. A manifestation of the divine authority held by the emperor in Japanese culture, extending his grace to all his subjects and outlawing curses by imperial mandate.

Ever after he made amends for his foolish acts, Assassin still holds some unresolved animosity towards the emperor and hardly approves of having to lug his statue around with her. Nonetheless, she is wise enough to appreciate the value of this Noble Phantasm's effects. That said, it doesn't mean she can't indulge in a little fun at the dead emperor's expense, such as doodling a mustache or other goofy imagery across the statue's face. Defiling the sanctity of a holy artifact is one way to put it, but on the other hand, isn't this childish behavior of hers terribly endearing?

    Key Words/Craft Essence

    Sparring
    "Crack! Crack!

Our wooden blades clash together over and over, each crack resounding through the training room.
He disarms me in one fell swoop, a deft flick of his wrist sending me tumbling down and my sword clattering across the floor.

'You're getting better by the day, Tokoyo! At this rate, even your old man won't be able to hold back for much longer...'
He says those appraising words while looking down at me with a proud paternal smile.

    Again, Father's beaten me.
    But I don't mind.
Rather, I'm happy to lose to Father.
He's so strong and cool, and he'll always look after me, just like a father should.

Father... I may not be as strong as you, but... just once, can you be the one relying on me someday?"

    False Tribute
    "The dragon swam closer.
Its gleaming body and phosphorent scales undulated towards me, eyes blazing with a cruel fire.

    I was scared.
    Terrified, even.
There was no way in heaven a girl like me could possibly defeat this monster.

    But even so...
If my life were to slip away here... I would never be able to see Father again.
All the girls already sacrificed to this monster would've died for nothing, never to be avenged.
    I won't accept that.

The dragon's head is just a few inches away from me now.
Its eyes lustfully caress my body, clearly seeing me as no more than a helpless prey to be devoured.
My hand grips tightly to the dagger concealed in my white dress, knuckles turning white from the strain.

The dragon finally opened wide its terrible jaws, eager to claim its new victim.
I didn't give it the chance.
My dagger flashed through the air, a gleam of radiant silver cutting through the dark waters toward the beast.

It howled in pain as the dagger tore a bloody gash across the side of the dragon's face, spilling forth a torrent of inky black blood.
    The dragon was angry now.
I was no longer merely prey to be devoured, but a foe to be ripped to shreds for daring to sully the flesh of a divine being.

It lunged forward, letting loose with a mighty roar.
Even with rage dulling its motions, the dragon's attack came furiously fast.
I only barely twisted my body out of the way of its claws, raking through the water where I was a second ago.

I spun around, slashing the dragon again as it passed by.
Another roar of anger, another spurt of dark blood.

Our fight raged on for what felt like hours, each of us swirling and twisting around each other in mad spirals of flesh, scales and steel.

Finally I landed the finishing blow, my dagger slicing cleanly through the underside of the dragon's throat.
Its last roar of hatred became a dying scream as the frenzied beast's life-force withered to nothing.

My lungs burned from holding my breath for so long, and the fingers gripping my dagger were numb...

    And yet...

I could scarcely help the triumphant smile dancing across my lips.

'Father... I've done it... now I'll finally be able to see you again...'

With my last burst of strength I took off towards the surface, the slain monster's carcess held loosely in my arms."

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A sheet for a lesser known Japanese heroine this time around. I actually came across her legend from browsing Tumblr, and was intrigued enough as to look up her legend as a potential Heroic Spirit. Once I got the idea for her Sacrificial Maiden (False) Skill, the rest came out pretty easily altogether. Second Bond CE turned out quite a bit longer then intended, but it has enough flavor that I didn't want to trim it down too much.

As always, be sure to drop by with comments and criticisms! Thanks.

Tokoyo:... Is it me or did you forget to add the Lore section?

Regarding the sheet; it's very well-done; two detailed NPs, an nicely written False Sacrifice Skill, making a surprisingly offensive Assassin.

The Bond Craft Essences are usually my favorite parts of Servant Sheets, and both of them are all well done - so good job for the extra effort!

Fair point. I could practically piece together the lore by just looking over them anyway.

    Background

The Boy-King of Flames, Hong Hai'er was one of the many supernatural opponents Sun Wukong fought against to save Xuanzang in Journey to the West. Being the son of Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan, he attempted to kidnap Xuanzang in an attempt to make his parents happy. However, Hong Hai'er was defeated by Wukong and Guanyin; afterwards, he was taken into the latter's tutelage.

Although born from two loving parents (as loving as demons can be), Hong Hai'er still felt left out due to their constant arguing. When it was seen that the boy possessed an affinity with flame, his father, Bull Demon King, sent him to the Flaming Mountains to train this into a proper technique. Eager to please his parents, Hong Hai'er spent 300 years to perfect his technique. Later, it's referred to as Sānmči-Zhēnhuǒ. Within those years, the demon boy was also able to master spearmenship to the degree where only the gods may able to stand a chance against him.

Hong Hai'er's encounter and subsequent fight with Sun Wukong was stemmed from a series of misunderstandings. After returning home from the long years of training, Hong Hai'er was met with the news that his father was apprehended by Wukong and his mother was gravely ill from the monkey king's torment. Determined to exact revenge for his family, the demon boy planned to kidnap Xuanzang and planned to use her as hostage to draw the Wukong to him. Little did Hong Hai'er know that his father was in fact Blood-Brothers with Wukong, and was merely taken to the heavenly court to decide how should repent.

Upon tricking and kidnapping Xuanzang, Hong Hai'er successfully drew Wukong in and both were engaged in a duel until Wukong narrowly escaped from the demon boy's Sānmči-Zhēnhuǒ technique. Forced to call the gods for help, Wukong first asked Ao Guang to cast a heavy storm to quench the Hong Hai'er's flames. The dragon king proved to be a disappointment yet again when not only did his storm fail to extinguish the flames, but strengthened them instead. Barely avoiding death once more, Wukong decided to swallow his pride and contacted Guanyin to help him in his plight. Simply by taking advantage of Hong Hai'er's renegade nature, the two managed to trap and bound him with the same restraining bands Wukong wore around the demon boy's limbs. Upon surrendering, Guanyin cured Hong Hai'er's mother of her illness; but in turn, the boy must be under her tutelage.

In the Goddess of Mercy's test, Hong Hai'er - now rendered powerless - was forced to mend the broken relationship between his now-mortal father and estranged mother. Throughout the trial, Hong Hai'er became less and less antagonistic, and began to rely on more peaceful options rather than jumping into battle. After saving a fishing village, killing three evil dragons, and redeeming numerous demons, the demon boy finally managed to repair the broken relationship between his mother and father. After this, Guanyin returned and congratulated him for moving past his selfishness. Now shedding his old nature, Hong Hai'er was granted a position in heaven and became Good Boy, a divine spirit of good fortune and familial piety.

From a wild demon-boy to a kind deity, Hong Hai'er sure has come a long way.

    Personal Traits

When summoned as Lancer, Hong Hai'er takes form of his younger days, when he was still the immature and brash demon eager to prove his strength.
An individual who can be summed up as a problem child, Hong Hai'er is the kind who takes action before thinking of the consequences. Believing he is invincible with his Sānmči-Zhēnhuǒ technique, the demon boy tends to overestimate himself and repeatedly gets into trouble. Whether it's helping or not, his confidence is somewhat justified, for he even drove the legendary Sun Wukong into a corner. As fiery as the flames he wield, the boy is quick to rise and is near impossible to put down when angered.

But like the fan that his mother wielded, said flames can be calmed by presence of someone dear. Even as a demon, Hong Hai'er was still known for his familial piety; even when his own life is in danger, he would risk it all for those he considered family. To the those he considers 'Family,' he becomes rather attached to them and will do anything for their approval or attention. However, if they continue to brush him off or offer insincere appraisals, do expect a nasty prank in the near future. It may have something to do with burnt eyebrows...

Because of his childish persistence, Hong Hai'er is unable to let go of any wrongdoings made against him. Even the most unintentional accidents is viewed as a grave insult against him, and the boy is willing to fight everyone until a sincere apology is given. Even now, he still hasn't forgiven Wukong and Xuanzang of harming his parents; should he encounter them, one should expect utter chaos following not long afterwards.

...Unti Hong Hai'er remembers that the same binding mantra the monk recites also works on his bands.

    Extras:

(Greatly admires Nezha for her spearmanship, and is one of the reasons he tries to master the spear. "She's just sooo cool...!")

(Surprisingly, he can't stomach spicy foods. The heat from the Flaming Mountains were enough, why torture himself even more?)

    Craft Essence/Reactions

    Flaming Mountains

"It was an amazingly large mountain range, expanding from one horizon to the other.
The heat is so unbarable on these red cliffs, even patches of flame littered its surface, burning bright for gods-knows how long.
Heck, the environment was so hot, that most of the animals there are all dead now!

But it sure was a great place to practice, though.
Honestly, I really, really hate practicin'; too much time and effort to repeat the same damn thing over and over, you know?
But that big, goofy smile that Pops gave me was the happiest I saw him, since all he's been doing for a long time was arguin' against Mom 24/7.
I mean, it's a really cool idea at the time, too; I get to learn some sweet moves, while Pops and Mom are all happy and proud of me!

So no matter how long I must endure to see the ones I like smile, it's all worth it.
A lifetime? Piece of cake. 3 lifetimes? Been there, done that. 100-wait nevermind, that's TOO long.
But you understand, right, Master? I will always make you smile.
Even if I have to pull up those stupid cheeks of yours, OK?"

    ---

    Reactions to Other Servants:

Eric Bloodaxe: "...Pops, is that you?"

Sakata Kintoki: Sees him as a brother-figure of sorts. Although the "sibling-figure" is a subjective definition, for the Berserker tends to act even more immature than Hong Hai'er at times. That aside, Hong Hai'er still thinks he's cool. Not as cool as Nezha, though.
"Golden... PIERCER! ...How's that, Goldie? Wasn't that cool?"

Xuanzang: "You got nowhere to run, that monkey ain't gonna be here to- Gahowowowowowow, these b-bands, o-of course it's these damn bands...!"

Nezha (Journey to the West Event): Nothing but suppressed screaming. Too nervous to say anything, and the only time when he's too nervous to say anything. Another chance of interaction ruined.

    Skills

    Class Skills:

Magic Resistance - C - grants protection against magical effects. Differing from the Resistance effect that merely rejects Magical Energy, this ability cancels the spells altogether.
Allows Hong Hai’er to cancel spells below two verses, but he is vulnerable to High-Thaumaturgy or Greater Rituals. Additionally, he is hopeless against Houjutsu or recitals of the Mantra.

    ---

    If Summoned as Rider:
Riding - A++ - The Skill that allows the piloting of mounts and vehicles.
At Rank A++, Good Boy is able to ride all vehicles and beasts. While this Skill doesn’t allow the piloting of dragons, Good Boy’s legend depicts him riding Lóngnŭ, which gives him the luxury to do exactly that.

    Personal Skills:

Battle Continuation - B+ - A Skill that allows for the continuation of combat after sustaining mortal wounds. It will also reduce mortality rate from injury. This Skill represents the ability to survive and/or the mentality of one who doesn't know when to give up, consisting of one's strength of vitality in predicaments.
It took several swords piercing Hong Hai’er’s limbs, a beating from Sun Wukong, impaling his limbs again with halberds, and attaching five of Wukong’s restriction bands (courtesy of Guanyin) around each of Hong Hai’er’s wrists, ankles and neck. Finally, after two recitations of the binding mantra, the boy finally surrendered.

Monstrous Strength - A - A Skill that permits the augmentation of its holder’s Strength Parameter by one rank for a period of time depending on the ranking of the Skill. Common holders of this Skill possessed nature related to a monster or a Demonic Beast.
Being the son of two demons, Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan, Hong Hai’er receives a bonus in Strength. As a result of his birth, the boy is frighteningly strong for a “child” of his stature.

Mana Burst (Flame) - A - A version of Mana Burst that infuses weapons with Magical Energy that imparts a flame effect.
As a benefit of his Sānmči-Zhēnhuǒ technique, Hong Hai’er is able to wreath his weapons and himself in flame, and can increase his speed by launching jets of flame from under his feet.

Wild Child - B - A behaviors of a temperamental youth, where nonsensical actions and fiery tempers are extremely common. A combination of Evaporation of Sanity and Mad Enhancement Skills.
Even with over centuries of experience, Hong Hai'er still possessed the stubborn mindset of a child. Because of this, he tends to underestimate his opponents, jumps to conclusions and slip up in many (often crucial) moments. Hong Hai'er was also known for his hair-trigger temper, and has the potential to go feral should he be provoked. During the berserk phase, all Parameters except Magic and Luck will increase by one rank. Fortunately, he can be quelled by either being calmed by someone he trusts or have a certain monk repeat the binding mantra for his restriction bands.

    ---

    If Summoned as Rider:
Golden Rule - A - (Replace Battle Continuation) A Skill that refers to the measurement of one's fortune to acquire wealth.
Being a Divine Spirit of good fortune, it’s expected for the Master to have great luck and never-ending wealth to come their way. Although grinding for materials are still necessary…
After all; ‘All good things comes from hard work!'”

    Affections of the
Goddess - B- - (Replace Wild Child) A Skill that denotes one being loved by a goddess.
Said affections are from Guanyin. Every Parameters except Endurance, Magic and Luck are raised by one rank. Although being a disciple/assistant of Guayin, he receives affection akin to "Tough Love," so Good Boy doesn't receive as much benefits from this Skill as one would've expected to have.

Divinity - B - (Replace Monstrous Strength) The measure of whether one has the aptitude of a Divine Spirit or not. Those who have A Rank Divinity or above has reached the throne of a god. It also has an effect, which reduces special defensive values called 'purge defense' in proportion to the Divinity's Rank. It can break through Skills such as Protection of the Faith and Enlightenment of the Sacred Fig.
Upon shedding all resentment and ascending as Good Boy, Hong Hai’er essentially became a god. However, even he cannot escape his demonic blood; as a result, his Divinity is of a lower rank.

    Noble Phantasms

Hóngzhăng Fire Spear - The Red Palm that Skewer and Roast - D+ - Anti-Unit -

Hong Hai’er’s weapon of choice, being the only weapon that didn’t melt under the intense heat of the Flaming Mountains. Despite the spear's size, the demon boy is able to wield it with grace and skill.

Because of its resistance to high temperature, Hong Hai’er is able to use his Mana Burst Skill to the fullest; by imbuing it with flame, the spear will obtain an even longer reach than before. Additionally, he can shoot out jets of flame from the spear tip if the target is at a distance. However, the NP is merely a extremely durable spear; thus it possess no other remarkable qualities.

In truth, the boy gave the spear its name just to make himself look cooler. Just never point that out in front of him, or risk becoming a pile of ash.

    Sānmči-Zhēnhuǒ - The Unquenchable Flames of the Demon Boy - A - Anti-Army -

The infamous technique mastered by Hong Hai’er, which took 300 years of training to accomplish. This art involves the conjuring of flames and smoke of the Flaming Mountain from his mouth, with the mystic flames being so hot that water doesn’t extinguish them, but makes them stronger instead. This NP was infamous for driving Sun Wukong into a corner many times, once even nearly killing him due to a small misstep.

When used, Hong Hai’er will simply exhale a large jet of flame, covering a maximum distance of 10 meters. Everything caught in its range will burn, no matter how fire-resistant it is. Once something is set alight, the mystic fire will continuously burn until there is nothing left but the object/target’s ashes. The only way for the flames to extinguish is by Hong Hai’er’s command. Aside from just exhaling fire, Hong Hai’er can also control the fire, allowing him to continuously pursue his targets with tendrils of mystic flame.

The boy doesn’t just breathe fire, but also conjure smoke too. Unlike the flames, Hong Hai’er can spread smoke at a much larger distance of 15 meters. Within the smoke, the furthest distance one can see is at least a 3-meter radius. Unfortunately, this decreased visibility applies to everyone in the smoke cloud - including Hong Hai’er himself. So this is ideal if he wants to make a quick escape.

Although the flames are powerful, this NP can be a problem in midst of a populated area. Because of its spread, it’s easy for Hong Hai’er to set the environment around him on fire. If the Master prefers to avoid collateral damage, it’s best to limit the NP to conjure only smoke until one is at a remote area for battle. Unless, the Master wouldn’t care less about innocent lives…

I'd actually considered doing a Red Boy sheet for quite a while, but never felt inspired enough to actually write it up. In any case, I don't regret that you beat me to it, since your take is pretty damn good. Obviously it lacks much in the way of lore and characterization, but I presume that's do to being a WIP. I imagine Red Boy as being essentially a more aggressive/selfish Astolfo personality-wise, but of course you're free to come up with your own take on the character. Along those lines, I wonder if Evaporation Of Sanity might work better then Mad Enhancement as a Skill to represent to his wild and temperamental nature. That's what I'd have done for my own sheet, anyways.

    True Name: Bass Reeves
    Class: Archer
    Gender: Male
    Alignment: Lawful Good
    Attribute: Man

    Strength: D+
    Endurance: D
    Agility: A
    Mana: B
    Luck: C
    Noble Phantasm: B

    Likes: Justice
    Dislikes: Crime, his disappointing son
Natural Enemy: Billy the Kid, Criminals,
Natural Ally: Anyone who enforces the Law.
    Armament: A battered Colt revolver.
    Skills

    Class Skills:
    Magic Resistance: (D)
In life, Reeves was a practitioner of Native American shamanism, if rather below average, learning it when he lived amongst the Indian tribes, and using it in his life as a lawman to help apprehend criminals as he set out alone. Thus, he has magic resistance at this rank.

    Independent Action: (B)
In life, Reeves often set out into the wilds of the West alone to apprehend criminals. He tracked down and apprehended hundreds this way, and thus, his independent action is at B-rank.

    Personal Skills:
    Lawman’s Eye: (A+)
Bass Reeves was completely and utterly devoted to Justice his entire life. Once, he hunted down his own son for the murder of his son’s wife, and rather than sit the hunt out, he demanded to be the one sent to bring his son in. For this devotion to justice and it's pursuit, his ability to observe crime and evil is enhanced, a variation of the Clairvoyance skill. This skill allows for quickly discerning the past actions of a target, instantly knowing what crimes they have committed. At this Rank, it reaches the point of nigh-supernatural detection, instantly registering any crimes or injustices that occur within a radius around him. Furthermore, within his sight, intent to perform injustice can also be detected, and his sight range to do so is greatly enhanced.

Aside from allowing detection of injustice, it acts as Eye of the Mind[True] at B-Rank, owing to his extensive experience in apprehending criminals.

This skill also acts as if it is Mental Pollution at D-rank, due to the extreme rank held. If he ever encounters injustice, he will, no matter what, pursue its punishment to the best of his ability, though he can be cautious or prudent in its pursuit.

    Protection from Arrows: (A)
In life, Reeves was supernaturally able to avoid harm from projectiles. He was shot at numerous times, and avoided bullets do close they punched through his hat or cut his belt, yet he himself never received a wound. He can dodge or deflect almost any ranged attack, even intercepting them with shots from his gun. This skill affects attacks even from an incredible distance, though attacks with a wide radius will affect him regardless.

    Shamanism: (D)
In life, Reeves dabbled in shamanism among the Native tribes on the plains, apprenticing himself to a shaman before he left the tribes to serve as a Lawman. The magecraft he learned was very specialized and simple, focusing on survival in the wilds, surviving environmental dangers, tracking criminals, and Reinforcement. He was not a Magus, but a spell caster, one whose sole use for his spells was furthering Justice and the Law.

    Dispensing Justice: (C)
This skill acts as a representation of his feared prowess as a Lawman, as many criminals surrendered out of fear alone. Enemies will be afflicted with a compulsion to law down their arms if they have committed evil acts, requiring mental resistance to overcome.

    NP
    Noble Phantasms
    Warrant of Arrest
    Come Quietly, or Else.
    - [Anti-Crime] Rank (B)

Lay down your arms and raise no hand against the law. I have a Warrant for Arrest and you'd best Come Quietly, or Else.

This noble phantasm is the crystallization of an incident, where he met three brothers, all outlaws, and walked up to them, handing them the warrant to their arrest. As they both admired his brazen brass balls, and laughed at him handing them the warrant, he simply waited. When they finally attempted to draw on him, he drew first, shooting one of them dead and crippling the rest. It also draws on his legend of arresting hundreds of criminals in his career, most simply surrendering at his appearance.

The NP manifests as a simple scroll of paper, initially blank. Upon meeting someone who has committed a crime, and once their true name is learned, it becomes a warrant for that individual’s arrest. When activated, Reeves must present the sheet to them somehow, whether by plastering it in a wall, shoving it in their face, or using it as a paper airplane. Upon its presentation, the target is presented with a choice, written in the air upon glowing letters. To turn oneself in, or to not. The choice bears the weight of their guilt for their actions, and the guiltier one is for their actions, the more likely they will turn themselves in.

Assuming they do not, any offensive actions they take are automatically predicted, and he is able to take a preemptive action before they strike. In effect, whenever they make an attack, he's already moving in response. This effect require a luck check to overcome, with A-ranked luck required to consistently pass it

If they do, a more interesting effect occurs. The weight of their crimes slams down onto them, and their mind enters a hallucination, where their victims testify against them, and Lady Justice herself, the conceptual embodiment of Law and Justice, makes a ruling based on witness testimony. Reeves can interact with this, but only insofar as he is acting as a Bailiff. This effect can be overcome by Bravery, but the rank of Bravery is down-ranked for the purposes of this NP, as the victim is essentially judging themselves. Mental Pollution and similar can still overcome the influence. In any event, the ruling made by Lady Justice acts as a Geäs, ordering them to make amends in some way for their crimes. For the worst cases, they are crushed by their guilt completely, literally attempting to smash them flat. Either way, they are forced by the Geäs to obey the law, not try to subvert the law, and similar. Rules Lawyering doesn't work with Lady Justice.

Interestingly, Servants that are affected by the Geäs of Justice are disqualified from the Grail War, however, this doesn't actually kill them. Instead, their connection to the grail is severed, their servant stats are all reduced to normal human levels, and their NPs are reduced to E-rank. Their prana requirement is similar reduced, needing only a miniscule amount of Prana to continue to exist. For all intents and purposes, they are now humans with E-rank noble phantasms. And also rather skilled. Not that it matters, since citizens are not allowed by law to commit Assault.

Though, if Reeves ever organized a Posse……..

    Long Arm of the Law
    Frontier Justice
    - [Anti-Personal] Rank (C+)

Reeves was known for finding the most hidden criminals, going out into the plains for days at a time. His devotion to the Law was legendary, and his exploits in its pursuit moreso. The rifle he bears is a crystallization of the Justice he brought to the Frontier.

The Rifle is simple and utilitarian, a Winchester Repeating. When confronting an enemy who has performed injustice, it ranks-up in effectiveness. It has a few special properties. When confronting an enemy who has not accepted the Warrant and/or turned themselves in, an attack with this weapon marks the Opponent, allowing Reeves to track them. If the enemy turns themselves in, it loses this property, and the Opponent is considered to have never performed injustice, by virtue of already being tried. In addition, an enemy who dodges or evades continuous successive attacks by this NP is considered to be “defying the law”, and just as Bass Reeves tracked down criminals, the bullets begin to home in on the opponent, the effect increasing the more bullets are dodged.

Need to add Lore and Personality.

Redoing my old Bass Reeves sheet, obviously.

Shouldn't Red Boy have Dual Summon if he has Mad Enhancement as a Class Skill?

Reeves: Aw, no mention of how he allegedly inspired the Lone Ranger? I'd expect some reference, even if only as a flavor tidbit...

@Tokoko: Been ages since you made an Assassin, refreshing from the steady stream of Riders and Casters. There's good flavour with a lot of personality written into the sheet with good detail on the skills and NP's.

    - - - Updated - - -

Also, I'm kinda suprised no one has made a sheet for Lucius Tiberius after his cameo in Fragments. I should probably do it at some point if no one else will now I'm reading Malory's rendition.

    Personal Skills:

    Breath of the Dragon: C
The ability to release a torrent of mana like the breath of Dragons, the strongest race of the Phantasmal Species. After consuming the heart of a dragon, it resulted in the change of her origin to 'Dragon'. One whose presence alone invites destruction. The use of the dragon breath puts massive strain on the body but due to her high END and MGI, her body can withstand the violent magnitude. At this rank, it is considered a C-Rank attack as she unleashed a cone of blazing fire from her mouth.
The use of the dragon breath puts massive strain on the body but due to her high MGI, her body can withstand the violent magnitude.

    Clairvoyance: B
A visual ability that is also called 'Eagle Eye'. This is generally a must-have ability of the Archer class. It is also frequently used during scouting. Simply looking from a high location is sufficient to fully survey a town and search for enemies. In addition, Clairvoyance will affect the accuracy of bows. It connotes superior visual perception and dynamic occipital capture, such as to supplement the long-range aiming of projectile weapons. At higher ranks, it is possible that the bearers of this Skill have acquired abilities such as precognition ('future vision') and other forms of perception beyond standard eyesight (X-ray vision and so forth).
At her rank, Assassin possesses prophetic powers and is capable of future sight. By means of dreams, she can divine the future.

    Item Creation: B+
It is the Skill to manufacture magical items, from implements of war to items for daily use. Also, this Skill requires time to gather components and manufacture items.
She is capable of brewing powerful concoctions and potions. However her speciality is making potions of amnesia that can make those who drink it lose either specific memories or their entirety.

    Magecraft: C
Knowledge about modern Thaumaturgy. She was tutored by her mother in the art, a famous and powerful witch. Although she possesses a great deal of magical power, she was not a particularly learned student and is quite unremarkable compared to other Magi of her time. She does hold a particularly strong affinity for the Fire element which was enhanced by consuming the heart of a dragon.

    Noble Phantasms

    Ridill
    Harvest the Sky Dragon

    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: B
    Range: 1
    Max Targets: 1 People

A phantasmal sword originally hoarded by the dragon Fafnir before passing to the dwarf Regin and used by Sigurd to carve out the heart of Fafnir before giving the sword to Assassin as well as the roasted heart to eat. It is also known by the name
    Refil
    The Craven Edge
. When drawn, the sword gives all parameters except for LCK a Rank Up. In addition, a '+' modifier is granted to attack when attacking vital organs. These effects take place when the sword is splattered with the blood of its enemies, feeding on their life to fuel it instead of taxing the masters mana, the more blood consumed - the more power gained. As expected, it is most effective in tearing away at flesh in the thick of battle against either huge monsters or in the midst of a horde, leaving all before it a miserable mound of gore and leaving Assassin to walk in a pool of blood.

Due to the legend of harvesting Fafnir's heart, the sword deals extra damage to dragons and those with the draconic traits due to possessing 'Dragon Slaying' properties.

    Tarnkappe
    Cloak of Invisibility

    Type: Anti-Unit (Self)
    Rank: C
    Range: 1
    Max Targets: 1 People

An item used by Sigurd to help him slay the dragon Fafnir and later granted to Assassin. When worn, it grants the effect of boosting her Presence Concealment skill greatly. In addition, her stealth does not decrease when making preparations to attack. Tarnkappe also allows her to gain magical energy when standing in darkness to compensate for the mana cost.
In Des Ring des Niblugen, Tarnkappe was a helmet possessing a different True Name that grants shape shifting and increases the users strength. Tarnkappe is also descended from the legend of Hades Cap of Invisibility.

    Lore

Gudrun is a major figure in the Icelandic epic known as the Völsunga saga centred on the hero Sigurd, son of Sigmund. Although she shares the same origin of Kriemhild of the Nibelungenlied, they are two different existences.

    Ideal Illusion

She was princess of the Niflungs and sister of King Gunnar. She was spoiled as a child and given everything she wanted however she came across the great hero Sigurd. The moment he caught her eye, she developed a fixation with him. One could mistake it for something like "Love at first sight". However he was completely indifferent to her. Naturally she pleaded to her mother, the Witch Queen Grimhild to arrange a political marriage and bewitch him. He then went on to slay the dragon Fafnir, carve out its heart and give it to Gudrun to eat.

That all changed when the Valkyrie Brunhildr fell from heaven quite literally. After defying Odin, she was imprisoned within a ring of fire. Sigurd fought through the fire and flames in order to reach her however out of an obligation to his brother-in-law Gunnar who lusted for the Valkyrie swapped places with him, fooling Brynhildr into thinking it was Gunnar who saved her. Sigurd also took the ring of Andvaranaut from Brynhild and gave it to Gudrun as his morning gift. Both queens, Gudrun and Brynhild, were married on the same day. Although Sigurd and Brynhildr were fated to be together, the marriages and a magical potion that erased Sigurd's love for Brynhildr from his mind kept them apart.

Sigurd was the ideal husband. However he was never truly in love with her. His mind had been warped but it didn't change the fates. Whenever he and Brynhildr were together… she could see it in his eyes. He was in love with her. And somehow… Brynhildr felt the same way.

While Brynhildr and Gudrun were bathing together, Brynhildr - to repress the feelings bragged to Gudrun how she had the superior husband. Enraged, Gudrun told Brynhildr the truth of what happened and showed her the ring of Andvaranaut she still wore on her hand.

Learning the truth, Brynhildr was distraught. She wailed to the court, screaming how Sigurd had taken liberties with her. King Gunnar and his brother Hogni were enraged with this but also felt greed towards Fafnir's treasure that Sigurd had claimed as well as the sword Gram. The two brothers knowing they could never hope to kill Sigurd incited the third brother Guttorm. Guttorm waited till Sigurd was sleeping in his bed and stabbed him with his sword hard enough that it pierced the bed underneath him. Sigurd pulled himself up, grabbed his sword and threw it with such strength Guttorm was sliced in half. Brynhildr kills Sigurd's three year old son before throwing herself onto their funeral pyre.

    Gudrun Rising: Revengence

Gudrun is so overcome with grief at the death of the one she loves that she cannot weep. The royal court fears for her life, and when finally her sister shows Sigurd's corpse to Gudrun, tears flow at last. Gudrun laments her lost husband and predicts the death of his killer, her own brother Gunnar.

As the years passed, the Huns approached, without Sigurd the Niflungs' were doomed. Gunnar had sent his sister Gudrun off to be married to their King Atil and prevent invasion. Knowing that Gunnar had killed her Sigurd and now sent her away like a mere pawn… she wanted revenge. She needed it. Her mother said that it was Brynhildr's fault Sigurd died but her brothers had orchestrated and performed it. After being forced into marriage by her mother and brothers.

She made the best of it. After being sent off to Atil, as queen, she merely spent her time keeping the bed warm while the King of Destruction did what she did best. Destroy. The queen told Atil about the gold of Fafnir and Atil now had claim for it. Atil cared not for gold but knew it could maintain armies and sustain destruction. After hearing Gunnar was keeping it from the two women, the plot began. After sending a messenger to Gunnar who was killed, Atil stormed the halls and demanded the gold for the price of letting them live. Atil sets the mead hall on fire with the Niflungs' within and says she will avenge the murder of Sigurd to 'encourage' them. Hogni is slaughtered by Atil and Gunnar says the treasure would be lost with his death. Thus Atil laid waste to the land.

Although Gudrun wanted revenge, she did not want her entire family and land to be destroyed. So she decided to end everything in one fell swoop to stop the cycle of vengeance.

Having been impregnated through magic she killed her children she had with Atil and served the meat to Atil while solidly drunk then burning the hall with Atil inside, killing the Huns within their fortress. She then found the strength to do something she wanted to do for the past decade. End her life.

    Personality

This form of Gudrun in the Assassin class is the form of her in her later years.
In her youth, she was something of a spoiled brat who wanted everything they desired for themselves. The brat who demanded everything and yet would not raise a finger to actually contribute. However the consequences of her actions caught up to her and she was admonished as 'Evil' for causing such harm to others. Although she never wished for this harm; it does not change that her actions whether actively malicious or not, were indeed that of evil. In the end, she acknowledged herself as like that of the dragon whose heart she devoured. One whose presence invites destruction. Her peers insisted that her soul was black and in the end, she accepted it. A 'Convenient Witch' if you will. However, her actions of murder and actively seeking to perform deeds she knew to be evil ended up ending conflict. As such she is the perfect example of an Anti-Hero.

Although she has embraced her role as Evil and would willing perform the role, she does have redeemable traits. Despite being petty, jealous and murderous she is capable of love and is affectionate to those who give her unconditional care. However she can easily discern truth and can tell if someone is being kind for ulterior motives or out of obligation. Needless to say that those people tend to meet a sticky fate.

Although supposedly having 'Let Go' of her old pains and hates, she still despises Brynhildr and Atil above all others and though not afraid per-se of being hands on, she can get... lets say carried away.

Some could argue that she was more heroic and good than her counterpart Kreimhild.

    Relationships

Brynhildr: Her old rival in love. Though honestly Assassin could be more than happy to kill Brynhildr, after everything that happened, Assassin would be content neither seeing or hearing from the woman ever again. "Besides, if I were to see that woman, we would most certainly kill each other."

Siegfried: "Sigurd? No… He is not my husband But he has the same air to him as my beloved. I'm sorry, but I really must make him mine."

Altera: "Husband?! No, she is not Atil. But she's the same… soulless monster. And that's compared to a vicious monster like myself. Anyways, there is only one thing Kings of Destruction can do. I know I'm far from perfect, but she is pure evil. The whole world would be better off without her in it, main reason I killed our children in honesty."

    Key Words/Craft Essences

Roast Dinner (Level 10 Bond CE)
"My Dear Master, we've been through so much together. After all we've done together, seen, laughed, fought, loved… I'm giving you my heart.
This isn't just a confession. My former husband slew a dragon, ripped out its heart and cooked it. I feel strongly enough about you to do the same. Would you care to share this meal with me?

    Fafnir
The Great Dragon of Greed. An evil phantasmal beast, featured in the Nibelungenlied, the Völsunga Saga, and the Der Ring des Nibelungen. Originally a dwarf prince, after being affected by the curse of Andvari's ring and gold, Fafnir became a dragon to guard his treasure. After being slain by Sigurd, the hero took the dragons horde for himself and gave his wife the roasted heart to eat.
Although her fate is not intertwined with the dragon, they possess connections with Assassin possessing some traits of dragons. Pride and greed among other more obvious.

    Völsunga saga
The Völsunga saga is a legendary Icelandic prose rendition of the origin and decline of the Völsung clan. The saga covers Sigurd's ancestors; Sigurd's killing of the dragon Fafnir; and the influence of the ring Andvaranaut. Assassin was the protagonist of the final chapters of the tale.

Reeves: Props to the Warrant of Arrest, for it was nicely-written compared to the second one. Funnily enough, the Warrant of Arrest feels like a JJBA Stand due to its function and listed methods to make the target look at the paper...

Honestly, I think the NP should have a higher rank of power, given the effect it has on other Servants is fairly powerful. However, that may be just me, since Reeves does have to make the target look at the paper first...
