Thread: Create-a-Servant

  1. #11501
I adopted this from a short story idea I never worked out. Background detail and stats info might be off by a tad. Also saw a Nirmod sheet here and decided to try my hand again.

    Information:

    Class: Archer.
    Alternate Classes: Rider, Caster, Berserker.
    Title: Emperor of Mankind.
    True Name: Nimrod.
    Alignment: Neutral.
    Crossover: Biblical.

    History
The son of Cush, King of Shinar and the mightiest hunter before the Creator. For his great accomplishments in service to the Creator, He declared Nimrod to be the servant of humanity, the Emperor of Mankind. To cement his role, Sasan the weaver fashioned the first crown from the fires of a fallen star. Nimrod’s will was tied to the will of mankind. What the majority of mankind wanted Nimrod would do. Under his kingship the Earth flourished. In time mankind sought to reach the heavens, to meet the Creator himself. This is the building of Migdal Bavel, the Tower of Babel. The Tower is the culmination of Mankind’s desires, the want to prove themselves to their Creator that they are worthy of being His children.

Not all of mankind agrees. Those who reject the Tower fear the implications of its completion. How can the Creator be a divine being of limitless vision and power when mankind seeks to not only rival Him but possibly eclipse him? Those who are afraid of mankind’s own potential sabotages the building of the tower. Nimrod intervenes time and time again to protect the Tower and its builders. But as the years pass and the Tower near completion, the number of doubters grows. What will happen to the Creator when the Tower is finished, they wonder? To lead them against Nimrod, the son of Terah, Abram, is chosen to lead them.

The armies of Nimrod and Abram clash many times. The fighting is brutal. Nimrod must fight because it is still the will of Mankind that the Tower be completed. Abram fights because he knows how this fight will end – and he wishes to save Nimrod from his fate. The two debate several times during the conflict but neither can convince the other to stop fighting. But as the fighting goes on, many of Nimrod’s followers begin to feel doubt about their work. Inevitably the will of mankind shifts from finishing the Tower to topping it.

Nimrod, the servant of Mankind’s will, obliges.

Abram goes to the tower to plead with Nimrod again.

Abram watches as Nimrod cuts down his most devout followers and brings the Tower down with his own hands. He witness the fall of Nimrod as mankind no longer wants a man like Nimrod, one who would go against the will of his own people, to rule them. When the Creator saw this he was disappointed because mankind had not grown wiser since the deluge. So he scatters the armies of Nimrod and Abram across the world. The Unified Language is lost as the Creator confuses the tongues of the many people around the world.

Nimrod breaks the Crown of Fire.

Nimrod is no longer King of Mankind.

For thousands of years Nimrod will roam the Earth, struggling to find his purpose in the world. He eventually takes on the name Zoroaster, reorganizes and reconstitutes an older faith combined with that that he has learned over the millennia, and founds Zoroastrianism. He “dies” in a lance of lighting, and ascends.

    Stats:
    Strength: B.
    Agility: B.
    Endurance: A.
    Mana: C.
    Luck: D.

    Class Skills:
    Independent Action: E.
    • Materialization is possible for 30 turns. As a servant to the will of Mankind, Archer cannot exist without Mankind. As a Heroic Spirit summoned into the Grail War, Archer's existence is tied to that of his Master. Without his Master he has no guide.

    Magic Resistance: B.
    • Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for him to be affected. Archer lived in a time when Phantasmal beasts were rampant and when mankind was less in number but also stronger. He ruthlessly hunted these beasts down.

    Personal Skills:
    Affections of the Creator: B.
    • Blessed by the Creator to rule Mankind. Other than Mana and Luck, all stats are Ranked-Up.

    Charisma: C.
    • He established the first cities and led an empire that has remained surpassed to this day. However his leadership over Humanity was given to him by the creator and tied to the will of the people. When the day came that his people no longer trusted him to rule he stopped becoming their king and fell from his throne.

    Clairvoyance: B.
    • Can keep track of moving targets for significant distances.

    Guardian Knight: A.
    • As the King of Mankind, Archer was expected to defend his subjects from all threats. In his era, the threats mankind faced were many and far more dangerous than the present era.

    Noble Phantasm:
Name: Migdal Bavel - The Tower of Betrayed Ambitions.
    Type: Anti-World.
    Rank: B.
    • The Tower of Babel was meant to be the crowning achievement of Mankind. For the first time in all of creation, Mankind would finally cast aside their fear and be equal to their Father, the Creator of the World. But as the Tower neared completion the will of Mankind turned against it as they feared the future. This Noble Phantasm takes the form of a ziggurat with a spiraling column jutting out from the middle many miles high. No Noble Phantasms can be used so long as the Tower remains standing. All Noble Phantasms are sealed as the legends and myths that created them stem from the World before the Tower was constructed and destroyed.

Name: Bow of Heaven - Mightiest Hunter Before the Lord.
    Type: Anti-Divine.
    Rank: A.
    • As “the mightiest hunter before God”, Caster possesses the most powerful weapon of the Antediluvian world – a bow. During his reign as king of Shinar he traveled in his chariot and hunted down the many man-eating beasts that threatened the security of mankind. The Bow of Heaven does not use conventional arrows as they cannot pierce the hides of many Phantasmal Beasts. Instead it fires Arrows of Light, conceptual weapons that are derived from Archer's unwavering belief in the superiority of mankind's will.

    If summoned as Rider...:
A golden chariot pulled by great Griffons. The beating of their wings would create powerful gusts of wind. When on the ground their talons would rip apart the Earth and tear apart homes. According to biblical tales, Rider rode against the Creator and with thunder in his hands sought to Storm the Heavens.

The Garments of Eden, the Vestments of Sin. Worn by Adam and Eve, these vestments were passed down from descendent to descendent until they were given to Rider. These clothes grant Nimrod invincibility from all types of harm, both physical and magical in nature. Both mind and body are invulnerable.

    If summoned as Caster...:
According to the Sumerian Kings List, the Kingship descended from Heaven. The concept of king did not exist until Caster had Sasan make him a crown of fire out of a Fallen Star. The crown crystallizes Caster's role as the first king of mankind. All others who claim kingship are mere imitators. With the authority it grants him as demonstrated by his crown, he can permanently seal one Noble Phantasm from a opposing Servant. This remains in effect so long as Caster lives.

Of notice, Nimrod was also Zoroaster.

    If summoned as Berserker...:
    Unknown.

No comment on the rest of the sheet, but why make him Zoroaster?
It doesn't seem to have any effect on his abilities, doesn't give him any Noble Phantasms. It's just there for no real reason.
Also I don't think Archers have MR as a Class Skill. Not entirely sure, though.

Its a little tidbit I found. Some identify Zoroaster with Nimrod.

Huh, that's an interesting little tidbit. I'm not saying that's wrong - I really don't know enough about either figure to say, though I've got a sheet for Caster Zoroaster lying around somewhere.
It's just a little weird to see someone who had so much influence over a lot of cultures described in such an incidental fashion. At least, it is for me.
If you're making an explicit mention of it, I'd think it'd have some influence on the rest of the sheet. Instead, it's just kinda there, like an unfired Chekov's gun.

Also, yeah. MR is an Archer Class Skill. My bad.

Here is a second version of one of my old profiles. Upon giving another look at the character, I felt this deserved a revision.

    Class: Berserker (Saber)
    True Name: Arngrim
    Gender: Male
    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

    STR: ***** A
    END: ***** B+
    AGI: *** D
    MGI: ***** C
    LCK: ***** B
    NP: ***** B

    Keywords
    KEYWORDS

    Mixed-Blood

Those who are an intermix of demons with men. The descendants of humans that consorted with something other than mankind. They are recognized as a distortion only when the blood as a demon (instead of the blood as a human) has grown thick. But since that blood becomes weak with each new generation, children that have strongly inherited that trait are rarely born.

The fate of a typical mixed-blood is to lose himself as a person when the non-human blood is too excessive, but it seems that are cases of individuals that can awaken as a Mixed-Bloods and yet remain human due possessing a wicked blood of the highest grade, but a greater proportion human blood.

    Tyrfing Cycle

A collection of tales within the Norse mythology, all which have the presence of a cursed sword named Tyrfing as a common element. In a sense, it is more about the story of the sword itself than the characters in it.

The cast of the Tyrfing Cycle includes kings, heroes and even demi-humans, but it seems that this Servant was a more ordinary fellow among the actors of this play.

    CLASS SKILLS

    Mad Enhancement: E
Causes parameters to Rank Up in exchange of reason. Normally, he is not under the effect of this Skill. However, a LCK check must be performed whenever he receives damage. Failure will cause him to go out of control as compensation for a temporary Rank-Up in STR.

In his case, the activation of this Skill will also cause the effects of atavism to occur as consequence, and vice-versa.

    if Saber
    Magic Resistance: B
The capacity to negate or abate the effects of Magecraft. Negates Magecraft invoked with an aria of three verses or less. It is difficult to injure him even with High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals.

    Riding: E
The technical skill to mount on vehicles. It also displays its effects on mechanized vehicles. While trained animals may be handled, he cannot drive any man-made vehicle.

    PERSONAL SKILLS
    Battle Continuation: A+
The ability of returning alive. Strength of vitality for predicaments. A Skill that decreases the death rate due to injury and makes possible to fight even in a condition of bearing serious wounds that would put him on the verge of death. At the highest rank, this is already a type of immortality.

In his case, this represents the abnormal resilience of a high-grade mixed-blood.

    Mixed-Blood: B
Measures one’s aptitude as a non-human. The higher the rank, the higher probabilities of acquiring abilities・Skills said to be beyond humans are. However, at the same time, one’s quality as a proper human being decreases and the risk of suffering from inversion also increase accordingly.

    Monstrous Strength: B+
The ability to temporarily amplify STR. An offensive special quality that only monsters, Magical Beasts have. STR is rise in 1 Rank by employing it. The activation span depends on the rank of "Monstrous Strength".

However, for as long as this Skill is active, he must perform a LCK check every turn in order to resist the effects of inversion.

    Selfless Devotion: EX
The nature of one who works for the benefit of others, to the point of disregarding himself. A unique Skill derived from awakening to one’s Origin, all sorts of mental interferences are completely shut out. Furthermore, it also provides bonus modifiers to the saving throws against Mad Enhancement and inversion・atavism.

    NOBLE PHANTASM

    Tyrfing – The Unavoidable Punishment
    Rank: A
    Type: Anti-Unit
A magic sword from Norse Mythology. Forged by demi-humans (dwarves), this sword has a golden hilt and a stainless steel blade that gleams as if on fire. At the same time, it is cursed blade that shoulders the karma of being the cause of “three great disasters”. An artifact famous for guiding most of its owners to ruin, LCK parameter suffers a major Rank DOWN whenever it is equipped.

Its power as a Noble Phantasm is spatial warping. Once brandished, the blade will distort the space–time continuum along its trajectory, twisting the laws of reality in the process. Consequentially, it can cut through most objects while disregarding material resistance. Also, even if a direct hit appears to have been avoided initially, the fluctuation of space-time will drag nearby objects into the path of the blade. Therefore, it is practically impossible to evade this Noble Phantasm’s attacks by means of high AGI.

    Background
    BACKGROUND

Berserker identity is that of the Norse warrior Arngrim, chieftain of a berserkir warrior tribe.

As is the case with all the characters of the Tyrfing Cycle, Arngrim’s story is tightly linked with the legend of the cursed sword. Tradition tells that Svafrlami, king of Gardariki, once captured two dwarf brothers, Dvalinn and Durinn. As ransom for their lives and freedom, Svafrlami demanded the creation of a magic sword for himself. The dwarves agreed and forged Tyrfing in accordance with the king’s wishes. However, once released, the brothers cursed the sword so it would bring misfortune to its owner.

Years later, Arngrim and his tribe arrived in Gardariki. At first they came only to hunt and pillage as always. But surprisingly, Arngrim fell in love at first sight with Svafrlami’s daughter, Princess Eyfura. He attempted to court her, but her father forbade their relationship due not considering Arngrim a suitable suitor.

Arngrim attempted to change the king’s mind by conquering military achievements under Svafrlami’s name, but his efforts were in vain. Eventually, Arngrim and Svafrlami met in battle to decide Eyfura’s fate. Svafrlami brought Tyrfing with him and used it to corner Arngrim in battle. But because of the curse of the dwarves, Tyrfing ended up being robbed from Svafrlami’s hand and used to end his life.

Afterwards, Arngrim claimed both Eyfura and Tyrfing to himself and brought them with him to his homeland of Bolmso. Eventually the couple had twelve sons and the oldest one, Angantyr, received Tyrfing from his father as an inheritance.

    The Berserker

The word “berserker” derives from the name of a type of Norse warriors who were known for wearing pelts of bears and for going into a frenzy-like state during battle. Some legends also tell about how they were immune to fire and could not be killed by bladed weapons. Due their supernatural powers and the fame of easily losing control, those berserkir were feared even among the brave Norse men.

Among the many tribes of berserkir, there was one that was in fact a clan of mixed-bloods.

Their overwhelming strength, their resistance to wounds, the supernatural powers that arose among some of their members; the cause behind all of these qualities could be traced back to the non-human blood. Even the characteristic maddening rage was nothing but a symptom of atavism – a phenomenon in which one’s humanity (reason) deteriorates as a result of the non-human blood becoming too strong.

As a purebred mixed-blood, originally Arngrim’s fate was to become a monster right at an early age. However, before that could happen, the young berserkr awoke to his Origin due certain circumstances.

Those who awaken to their Origin are simply swallowed by it. For things like a personality will only be painted out by the orientation that was produced by the original beginning. Ironically, the same thing that corrupted his character also protected him against the curse of his blood. In exchange of becoming a slave to the base impulse of his soul, Arngrim was saved from turning into a beast without even a resemblance of rationality.

    A blessing in disguise.

Similar circumstances came about in regards to his status as a bearer of Tyrfing. Despite possessing one of the most famous magic swords in Norse Lore, after taking it from the hands of King Svafrlami, Arngrim never again had the opportunity to use it. But that in itself was a silver lining of a dark cloud; for Tyrfing had a strong curse of bringing ruin to its master. The berserkr was only able to avoid such fate due to not being able to wield the magic sword in battle even once. Among all the known owners of Tyrfing, he alone did not have his life destroyed by the curse of the blade.

    That's really cool. XD

I actually made a profile for Hervor Hjörvard, the last person to wield Tyrfing, but I must admit it was much more boring compared to your version.

That's a pretty cool sheet overall, but I feel like Tyrfing is a bit... boring. After emphasizing its cursed nature and all, it's a little bland that said curse only manifests as a Luck down. I don't know why you made its only other defining trait spatial twisting, since that's already Caladbolg's trademark and there isn't any relationship between them.

Interesting what you made with his awakened Origin and his mixed blood heritage.

Well here's the Hervor sheet o' fancy hatted dragon thing, if you wanna compare Tyrfings. XD

    Spoiler:
    Class: Sabre
    Age: 25

    Spirit: Hervor Hjörvard
    Master:

    Strength: A+
    Endurance: B
    Agility: C
    Mana: D
    Luck: C
    N. Phantasm: A

Personality: A tomboy who acted like a man in life, Hervor retains the rather crude manners of the men of her time, swearing and bellowing with such fervour as to wake the dead. Her riotous behaviour more often than not causes problems for those around her.

Appearance: A rather short girl with ginger hair tied back in a simple plait, part of her fringe still hangs forward, covering her right eye. She wears brown woollen bands on her forearms, covering her palms and a fur lined brown vest with a hood that often sits at the back of her neck, giving her a white mane of fur about her shoulders. Under that she wears a blue shirt, cream trousers and a pair of large, knee high brown boots. A massive sword held in a equally obstructive sheath held by a belt around her chest.

    Class Skills:
Magic Resistance [C+] - Despite encountering magic in her life, Hervor's ability at countering it is relatively low for a Sabre.

Riding [B] – Most beasts and vehicles can be handled with above average skill, but not phantasmal beasts.

    Personal Skills:
Bravery [B] – The ability to negate mental interference such as pressure, confusion or fascination.

Necromancy [E+] - The ability to commune with and control the dead through magecraft. While Sabre has no formal training in any such ability, her very voice carries the ability to rouse the spirits of the deceased. Using this, she can force disembodied spirits to answer her, but not much else.

    Noble Phantasm:
    Tyrving: The Thrice Damned Sword
    Rank: A
    Type: Anti-Unit, Anti-Lineage

The cursed blade forged for Svafrlami by dwarves he had coerced into making it, this blade claimed the life of its owner before passing into Hervor's family, where it remained for five generations, bringing ruin upon almost all who wielded it. The one exception to the ruinous history of the blade, is Hervor herself, creating a legend in her as the one true wielder of the monstrous sword.

Appearing as a blade much too large for any man to wield, let alone a girl of Hervor's diminutive stature, Tyrving is a Guts' style dragon slayer that rarely leaves its sheathe. When wielded, she unclips it from its belt, swinging the weapon, sheathe and all at her enemies.

When invoked, she finally unsheathes the blade from its bindings, its blade glowing red hot with the still burning fires from which it was forged. Once brought to bare against its target, the sword unleashes the culmination of its evil deeds against them. The target is struck by three death blows in a row, and should any of them harm the opponent, their life will be snatched away by the blade's curse.

As a weapon that brought ruin to a single bloodline more than any other, it will also be more powerful, burning white hot against any target whose power is drawn from their lineage.

I admit that it might lack some originality, but when talking about of curses usually the first think that comes to mind is something that brings bad fortune. Besides, considering this Servants attributes, nothing can spell "incoming disaster" better than bad luck.

As for the spatial twisting, according to legends Tyrfing had two special abilities: one was cutting through rock and metal as easily as through flesh; the other was never missing a strike. My idea was to have one single power that could produce these two effects. Now, the "never miss a strike"-thing got me thinking on Gae Bolg. Then, I suddenly remembered how Saber at first thought that Lancer's NP twisted space to hit her. The result is as you see...

Now that St. Martha is official I figured I'd share the version I made of her, basically because I think my favorite saint should have better NPs than just "Tarasque used Dragon Rush!"

    Class: Rider

    STR: D
    END: C
    AGI: B
    MGI: A
    LCK: A

    Class Skills

    Riding (A+): Phantasmal and Divine Beasts can be used as mounts;
however, the ability to ride Dragons falls under a different skill.

Magic Resistance (C): Cancels spell two verses or shorter.

    Personal Skills

Dragon Riding (A): Allows one to ride draconic species of Phantasmal and Divine level.

Saint (B): Rider has been acknowledged as a saint due to her connection to
Christ and her own legends. She is able to use this skill to produce Holy Shrouds.

Golden Rule (C): Rider and her siblings were said to have been of royal descent and
inherited a castle. Rider can use this skill to draw upon her fortunes.

    Noble Phantasms

    Tarasque~Great Dragon of Provence (A+, Anti-Army)

The spawn of the fiery bull Onachus and the Leviathan, the Tarasque is a gigantic dragon that only exists to eat, kill
and destroy, at least until it encountered Rider. Its scales deflect all but the strongest magical attacks, its spines
can be launched from its back like a volley of spears and it is extremely fast and agile on land and water despite its
massive bulk. However, what makes it truly dangerous is its healing capabilities, since no form of attack can suppress its
regeneration, even disintegration. Because a method to truly kill it has yet to be discovered, Rider was forced to bind it
    and render it harmless instead.

    Shroud of Martha~Sash of the Lord's Hostess (A, Anit-Unit)

The Holy Shroud that binds the Tarasque and makes it docile and obedient to Rider. However, when the Tarasque is not
materialized, the shroud can be used to bind any manner of beast to Rider's will. Rider's shroud is limited only to
creatures that she is able to command via her Riding skills, so this encompasses virtually all species of Phantasmal
beasts, including Dragons. The only downside is that unbinding the Tarasque from Rider's control could be disastrous.

    Villajoyosa~Holy Flash Flood (C+, Anti-Army)

This Noble Phantasm is gained as a result of a legend of Rider appearing to save a Spanish village from pirates in the 1500s.
It is a recreation of the massive wave of water conjured to sink the enemy ships that rush towards Rider's target and sweeps
them away. The water can either be conjured by the Tarasque, in which case the wave is double the size, or by Rider herself, in
which case the water is treated as holy water.

Siglo de Oro (Spanish Golden Age)

A period between the 16th and 17th Centuries in which all forms of arts flourished in Spain. An era of great cultural richness that gave birth to countless artists and masterpieces, many of which are popular even in modern times. This hero’s legend was first introduced to the world as a novel written during this time.

    Rocinante

Rider’s steed, Rocinante. Despite all appearances, it actually belongs to a lineage of purebred Magic Beasts. Its frail-looking body conceals top-class strength even among members of the Phantasm Races. The reason why a weak Heroic Spirit like Don Quixote can contend against other famous heroes is due having such a fine animal as his loyal partner.

    CLASS SKILLS

    Magic Resistance: E
The capacity to negate or abate the effects of Magecraft. Unable to negate Magecraft, but damage value is reduced a little.

    Riding: A
The technical skill to mount on vehicles. It also displays its effects on mechanized vehicles. Can freely handle all vehicles and animals, with exception of those of Mythical Beast and Divine Beast rank.

    PERSONAL SKILLS

    Evaporation of Reason: C
Reason is inexplicably disappearing, so it is impossible to bear any secrets. Carelessly talking about one's own true name and weaknesses, forgetting about important things and the likes – this is already a kind of curse. This Skill also combines the features of “Instinct”; although limited to only for the sake of self-defense, nevertheless he can reliably sense the most suitable developments for himself.

    Guardian Knight: C
The ability to temporarily raise one’s own defensive power when acting as an escort for others.

    Self-Suggestion: A
A powerful suggestion that has oneself as target. A Skill that raises resistance towards mental attacks. Upon achieving A Rank, misconceptions on the level of "I do not grow old = aging truly stops" become possible.

    Weapons

    Lance
A type of spear used mostly by cavalry since the Middle Ages. Along with armor, mace, shield and sword, it is regarded as a symbolic armament of the European knights.

Created having the needs of cavalry charges in mind, they were often equipped with a vamplate - a small circular plate that prevented the hand from sliding along the shaft upon impact. Although lacking in nimbleness, it was quite sturdy in order to penetrate heavy armors. Also, its spearhead usually lacked a cutting edge, making this a exclusively piercing weapon.

A weapon highly specialized for mounted soldiers, but, as a consequence, it performs poorly in the hands of infantry. Unlike other polearms, it was ill suited for repeated thrusting and thrown attacks. Furthermore, its size and shape made it too clumsy for swinging motions. In short, its use was never intended for melee combat.

    NOBLE PHANTASM

Matador di Gigantes – Tilting at Windmills
    Rank: B+
    Type:
    Anti-Fortress
A secret-technique in which Rider and his mount fully unite in mind, body and technique to charge at the opponent at full power. It boasts enough destructive power to even pierce through fortifications. There are two separate damage rolls: one for Rider’s lance and one for Rocinante’s hooves. Furthermore, there is also an effect of causing additional damage towards demi-humans.

However, due the anecdotes related to it, Rider must perform a LCK check upon activating this Noble Phantasm. Failure will cause the attack to backfire and have catastrophic results to the user.

    Background
    BACKGROUND

The story goes that Alonso Quijano was a retired country gentleman that lived somewhere in La Mancha, Spain. Despite being mostly a rational, intelligent old man, he also had a side that had forever remained as a child. Thus, it was understandable how the unrestrained, excessive absorption in fictional works about knighthood became a bad influence to his mind. This obsession led him to set out on a journey as a knight-errant.

Accompanied by his loyal steed and a “squire”, Don Quixote de la Mancha – as he started to call himself – lived through many adventures. Or maybe it would be better to call them misadventures. In his distorted views, he saw the world around him as a overly wondrous, yet troubled version of itself – which he sought to correct with his misguided conviction in the chivalric codes of old.

This means that he often meddled in affairs that had nothing to do with him, and attempted to solve them using blunt, archaic methods.

At the same time, he always upheld his delusions with all his being and never forgave insults to the notions of knighthood that he held so dearly.

As a consequence, he got himself into a lot of troubles. It was a common occurrence for Don Quixote to find himself beaten on the ground after biting more than he could chew. Also, not few were the times when he was tricked and taken advantage of by those around him.

Yet, his will remained unwavering to the end.

After all is said and done, nobody can deny that Don Quixote was indeed a heroic existence. With his story, he exemplified the nobility of standing up to one’s beliefs no matter what. His cause was just, and that knowledge alone gave him the strength to take the whole world as his enemy.

    Nameless Knight

But in the end, Don Quixote de la Mancha was nothing but a fictitious character, with no base on a real individual. Alonzo Quijano, Sancho Panza, Dulcinea del Toboso never really existed. The three quests of the knight-errant never happened anywhere outside the novels of Miguel de Cervantes.

But as the saying goes, at times truth is stranger than fiction.

Once upon a time, when the popularity of Don Quixote novels was particularly high, a certain knight-errant appeared in Spain. Said knight had very little in common with Don Quixote. He was not a retired gentleman, nor was a particularly intellectual old man, and – surprisingly enough – wasn’t even aware about the existence of Cervantes’ novel. The only points he shared with fictional character was the companionship of the mare Rocinante and the extreme idealism that led him into attempting to change the world through the tenets of chivalry.

    Apparently, that was enough.

Upon witnessing his way of life, the people of that time couldn’t help but draw strong parallels between what they saw and the stories of Don Quixote. The way how he interfered in matters unrelated to himself, the way how he romanticized the world around him and even the way how he stood up to a creed that nobody else believed in. Everything seemed all too familiar to them.

With time, people started to see that man and the character created by Cervantes as being one and the same. His real identity was ignored and he was treated simply as Don Quixote himself. Upon his death, his true name was lost and he ascended to a Heroic Spirit as an incarnation of the fictional knight-errant.

By the way, while the “real” Don Quixote was nothing but a troublesome fellow that never accomplished a single heroic deed, it seems that this man actually experienced an adventure worthy of a hero once…

I saw a Don Quixote character once and it made me laugh. It was a Berserker with a high ME rank that can use a Reality Marble.

The word on the street is that Hector is slated to appear in future releases of Fate/Grand Order. In the interest of getting mine out before Type-Moon invalidates it, here's a Hector I was going to use in a story once upon a time.

    Spirit: Hector of Troy
    Class: Saber
    Alternate Classes: Lancer
    Gender: Male
Alignment: Lawful Good/Chaotic Neutral (see Notes for explanation)

    Stats:

    Strength: B
    Endurance: C
    Agility: A
    Mana: D
    Luck: E
    Noble Phantasm: A

    Class Skills:

    Magic Resistance - B

Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High Thaumatrugy or Greater Rituals, it is difficult to be affected.

    Personal Skills:

    Riding - A

All but the members of the Divine Beast and Phantasmal Beast species may be used as mounts. The Dragonkind are also exempt from this Skill.

    Charisma - B

The natural talent to lead and command an army. At this level, it may also be suitable for a king.

    Military Tactics - B

The tactical knowledge that comes with leading vast armies into battle. In effect, grants bonus modifiers to Saber when using an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm or facing one, as befitting a man who held the gates of Troy against the Greek war machine for years on end.

Eye of the Mind (True) - B

Capable of the calm analysis of a situation even in the heat of battle and the best course of action to achieve victory. At this level, Saber may even snatch victory from the jaws of defeat just as he overcame incredible odds to defend his homeland time and time again.

    Bravery (False) - B

Though a courageous defender, leader and slayer of men, Saber quaked with fear at the approach of vengeful Achilles, invalidating this Skill even though he head lead a life that would normally be worthy of it. At this rank and in this form, Saber enjoys the benefits of true Braver (Rank B) until he is faced with an unfavorable situation or opponent. So long as the advantage is his, this Skill will remain in effect. In essence, he's only having fun when he's winning.

    Virtuous Pagan - A

Recognized as one of the three virtuous pagans among the Nine Worthies, Saber will receive bonus modifiers when confronted with holy sacraments, shrouds and even Noble Phantasms rooted in the Judeo-Christian faith. In most cases, holy attacks of this faith will suffer a Rank Down when used against him, although there is a chance of nullifying the effects altogether, dependent on a Luck check.

    Noble Phantasms:

    The Flashing Helm of Obfuscation
    Astyanax

    E-Rank, Anti-Unit (self)

Taken from the account of Hector's last visit with this wife, Andromache, and his young son, Astyanax or Scamandrius. Though Hector came to them with his bronzed helm under one arm, the sight of it was enough to scare the boy so badly that he began to weep. In the presence of his beloved parents, young Astyanax should have felt safe and secure, but the helm and the horrible war it represented were all that his young mind could comprehend in that moment.

That is Astyanax the Phantasms's power -- to turn aside even logic.

When Saber wears this helm, the sight of it will confuse and confound even another Heroic Spirit as the Phantasm actively discourages any attempts to deduce Saber's identity as anything more than "the enemy." This Phantasm is the anonymity of a hostile soldier. How many men have heroes like Hector cut down without ever knowing their names? So long as Hector's helmet remains, his enemy will never know his. Even if he were so careless as to recount a story hinting at his identity or use a Noble Phantasm, the fingerprint of any Heroic Spirit, in plain sight, Astyanax would force a sense of tip-of-my-tongue on the listener. As it is a form of mental interference, it is useless against those Servants afflicted with Mad Enhancement, Mental Pollution, Evaporation of Sanity, etc. However, as it is not a form of mental interference magecraft but faceless war given shape, it is not impeded at all by Magic Resistance.

If someone who already knows Hector's name volunteers that information, the effect will be broken for all who hear it. A sufficient rank in Bravery may also nullify this effect, though only the sense of anonymity. The courageous opponent would still need to deduce his true name from square one.

    The Peerless Sword's Shadow
    Durandal Simulacrum

    A-Rank, Anti-Army

There is a certain legend that the sword of Roland (or Orlando), first among Charlemagne's Peers, had once belonged to Hector of Troy. Yet there is nothing in Hector's legend that speaks of a sword like Durandal, and even if he did own such a thing, it did not yet contain the holy relics empowering Roland's blade and Hector did not use this pre-Durandal to any great effect. In truth, Hector never laid on this blade at all.

However, the misconception persists so fiercely that Hector is imbued with the ability to call upon this pseudo-Noble Phantasm, which just barely qualifies him for the Saber class.

This sword enjoys neither the three miracles nor the holy power of its supposed descendant or eventual form -- however you wish to think of Phantasms through the ages. In day-to-day use, it is a simple C-Rank Noble Phantasm. When Saber speaks the name "Durandal" aloud, it very briefly taps into the power of the proper legend and unleashes the same wave of light that spilled forth from the blade to scar the earth as La Breche de Roland. However, even this power pales in comparison to the original, and it is the only one of the true sword's properties that Hector is allowed. Further, just as Roland's sword contained the remains of three saints, Hector is allowed this share of Roland's power only three times -- three graces from one warrior to another. Hector and his Master must be very cautious in their limited use of the blade of light. Once these three allowances are exhausted, Hector loses the power to summon even the basic, C-Rank sword.

    The Trojan Tempest
    By the Blood of Priam

B-Rank, Anti-Unit/Anti-ArmyJust as Hector was the zenith of Trojan warriors, this blow is the pinnacle of his martial prowess. Hector's mastery of the spear was so complete that the simple stoppage of a single missile was enough to elevate the shield of Aias to the realm of legend. Even the god of archery and patron of Troy, Apollo himself, could not think to make an arrow that flew straighter and deadlier than the spear of Hector.

Whenever Hector casts a spear that is pure in purpose and with all the conviction and proper form that marked him on the field of battle, the spear becomes an armor-piercing round that can drill through any man, no matter how impervious his skin is purported to be. However, having failed to pierce Rho Aias and the account of Odysseus landing upon his shield to avert the fate that the first Greek to land would be the first man to die by Hector's spear, it suffers in the face of defensive Noble Phantasms that take the form of a shield. Armor, skin like armor, holy blessings and even fortresses and vessels like those of the Greek ships offer little protection but a shield of proper fame and Rank will stop this spear-throw cold.

    Breaker of Horses
    Hector Atepomarus

    Unknown

A sealed Noble Phantasm. Derived from the final lines of the great epic describing the son of Priam as a breaker of horses but with no other explanation, this Noble Phantasm likely would have taken the form of a great war horse or perhaps a martial feat that could only be performed from horseback. Whatever the case may be, it is lost to the ages. Were this Noble Phantasm ever uncovered, it would be enough to qualify Hector for the Rider class.

    Notes
So I was going to use this guy as the resident Edelfelt Saber of my Third Grail War story, hence the Lawful Good/Chaotic Neutral. The gimmick in my mind was that one Hector embodies all the good and noble stuff that elevated him to the Nine Worthies, while the other Hector contains all of the shifty stuff that people tend to gloss over -- running away from Achilles, trying to desecrate Patroclus's corpse not once but twice, etc. He was a multi-faceted man and chopping his legend in half to make him an unrealistic ideal doesn't really do him a service, so this was going to be my way of criticizing that notion. As the war goes on, the virtuous Hector grows increasingly gentle, nurturing and pacifistic. He stops fighting altogether, having grown so passive and idealistic and indecisive that the thought of even hurting anyone ever again makes him cry. The other Hector grows more bestial, as the id and human failings he embodies rage out of control without his other half to keep him in check.

Another gimmick would have been that the Edelfelts really, really wanted Roland, but they got Hector instead due to his tenuous link to Durandal. It would have been something of a running theme -- did one of the sisters fail? Is Hector a better fit for them? Did Roland pass on the Grail War because he died victorious while Hector has spent an afterlife knowing his city died with him?

But they try to make the best of it by using his tricky identity-obscuring helmet and the fake Durandal to pass him off as Roland. I liked Stay Night making something of Servants keeping their names a secret, and I wanted to see a Master use that. It was also a sort of "answer" to Mordred's own identity-concealing helm, which is so oddly specific to blueballing Shirou over in Apocrypha that I wanted to make it seem less of a convenient outlier.

The spear NP, you'll notice, is incredibly half-assed. He was mostly going to be about the helmet-sword combo and his growing instability from being split in half. The spear NP was an afterthought, even though he usually fights with a spear-and-shield. It went through a few different versions, such as a plague-bearing spear as a nod to Apollo's plague arrows or being a sort of sunlight bomb, again as a nod to Apollo. I thought about making any spear he throws a drill or a railgun-like blast as a nod to the thunder of Zeus, but I ditched all of these ideas because I wanted him to be the more mundane underdog to all of Achilles and his god-granted stuff. Hector shares EMIYA's EotM for that reason.

And speaking of Skills, I know I went way overboard. I very nearly gave him Protection from Arrows, Disengage, Battle Continuation and a bunch of other stuff, which all seemed appropriate from a guy who fought a war for so long.

You may have also noticed that his stat block is a picture perfect example of the Lancer class container. This would have been the first hint that there's something up with the Edelfelt Sabers.

Edit: And finished. I got kicked of the computer while I was writing it, so I posted the partial and came back to it.

With people like Phantom of the Opera or Frankie as Servants, hopefully this is okay being here. He's my most desired Servant, though I suppose given the identity of S/F Caster it seems unlikely he will ever make an appearance.

    True Name: Edmond Dantès
    Class: Assassin
    Alternate Classes: Saber/Berserker/Caster(?)
    Sex: Male
    Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

    Strength: B (B/B)
    Endurance: C (A/A)
    Agility: B (B/C)
    Prana:
    D (C/D)
    Luck: A (A/E)
    Noble Phantasm: B (C/C)

    CLASS SKILLS:
    Presence Concealment: A+
The capacity to hide one's presence as a Servant. It is possible to disappear completely and become almost impossible to be detected. However, efficiency will decrease once preparations to attack are taken.

    PERSONAL SKILLS:
    Expert of Many Specializations: B
Medicine, poisons, academia, espionage, assassination, rhetoric and a total of 28 other skills can be used with proficiency of Rank C or above. Achieved through rigorous study, practice, and a form of self-suggestion he learned through his trusted mentor, the Abbé Faria.

    Golden Rule: B+
Measures one's fortune to acquire wealth. Money problems are almost entirely unknown.

    NOBLE PHANTASM:

O God of Vengeance, Let I Be Thy Messenger
    Hand of Providence
    Anti-Unit
    Rank: B

A Noble Phantasm that embodies the concept of “vengeance”. When activated, the target will find themselves assaulted by memories and violent shades of the past, desperately seeking to obtain the vengeance they were unable to find in life. When used on a Servant, prerequisite knowledge of the target’s identity must be known. If used on those who wronged no one and lived a life of purity, it will have zero effect.

Although not a magus in life, Edmond’s transformation into something akin to an avenging angel during his life has given him an existence that naturally attracts the wronged souls scattered throughout history.

    as Saber
    Tears of Haydée
    Aslan En Son Hiddet
    Anti-Unit
    Rank: C

A jeweled scimitar once owned by the Lion of Yannina, Ali Pasha. Its steel blade appears to burn with a crimson glow, as if a fiery intensity has been trapped within. A Noble Phantasm that, when activated, can counter an enemy’s attack by retaliating with an attack of equal strength. It does not shield Edmond from any damage he may receive in the bout, but it does guarantee he will survive the damage taken – at least long enough to send his retaliation.

    - Under normal circumstances he would only possess this as Saber, but given enough fame boost (ala Cu summoned in Ireland), he'd possess this as Assassin as well.

    as Berserker
    Come, Suffer the Same Despair
    Chains of the Chateau d'If
    Anti-Unit
    Rank: C

The chains of the infamous fortress prison of the Chateau d'If. From the shadowy depths they come to chain the target in place, forcing an overwhelming Mental Interference that temporarily degrades the target’s parameters. Additionally, any damage taken by Edmond prior to the activation of the chains is applied in double, carving their flesh with the same sufferings he experienced.

While in possession of this Noble Phantasm, Edmond also possesses the personal skill Battle Continuation (B).

    Some notes:
    - It'd probably be possible to spin him as Caster under the idea that the Abbé Faria was a Magus specializing in suggestion, but I'm not the biggest fan of the idea. He'd be better as one of the other three classes.
    - Hand of Providence is a bit vague but it works similar to First Folio.
    - I realize his other two NPs are essentially better versions of Verg Avesta. Conceptually, they fit, I think.

Is that an official list? I saw it floating around on /vg/, but I've always been under the assumption somebody was just bullshitting everyone with a fake 'leak'.

I do hope it's real though.

it's official enough to be in the game files?
So if it's fake, it's "officially fake."

Ooh, that's pretty exciting. It's a shame that he will probably be a 1 or 2 star, but I hope his design is good at least.
