Since everyone was talking about him, I decided to write up Perseus as a Saber. He's obviously heavily inspired by the Hollow Ataraxia version more than the Prototype version, but I've still taken a few liberties with him, mainly by condensing his minor Noble Phantasms. Everyone knows how he's basically a boastful, arrogant jerk who somehow manages to actually back up his boasts after pissing his pants in fear, otherwise known as Successful Shinji, so that's what has been focused on for this sheet.
I think he'd be fun to play or write about, mainly because those sorts of personalities are always great for this kind of thing.
Perseus
False Gloryhound of Mycenae
Class: Saber
Alternate Classes: Rider
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Parameters:
Strength: C+
Endurance: D+
Agility: B+
Magic: E+
Luck: A+
Class Skills
Magic Resistance
Grants protection from magical effects. Capable of cancelling spells altogether instead of simply rejecting prana, at a high enough rank.
- D: A below-ordinary level of resistance for the Saber Class, it resists any Single-Action magecraft completely. It seems that despite Saber’s boasting, he had never encountered anything on the level of real magecraft before facing the Gorgon Medusa.
Riding
The ability to ride animals or control vehicles with sure, steadfast skill.
- B: Saber is able to ride any normal animal or control any mundane vehicle with exceptional skill, enhancing the mount’s capabilities. However, without some external method of imposing additional restraints upon them, he is unable to control Phantasmal Beasts of any real power.
Personal Skills
Affections of the Goddess
Divine favour from a doting divine goddess grants the user Parameter boosts.
- A+: When Saber is acting bravely and heroically he gains the favour of the war goddess Athena and in turn benefits from a Plus Modifier to all of his Parameters. Of course, given his bluster and insecurities these modifiers are not always present. In addition, Saber is able to utilise the various gifts he was given by the gods to face Medusa as additional skills. At any time, Saber may utilise one of the following skills at a Rank equal to this skill: Presence Concealment, Presence Detection, Flight or Barrier Inversion.
Beast Slayer
Well known for his skill at slaughtering dangerous creatures, this individual gains a bonus to Strength when fighting them.
- C-: One of the four great slayers of monsters in Ancient Greek mythology, alongside Cadmus, Bellerophon and Herakles, Saber is famed for having exterminated Medusa, as well as killing the sea serpent Cetus to save his future wife, Andromeda. Against anything bearing a Monstrous or Draconic trait his weapons gain Anti-Monster and Anti-Dragon traits. However, as he is already receiving Athena’s favour with Affections of the Goddess, no enhancement to his Parameters is provided.
Divinity
The measure of whether one has aptitude as a Divine Spirit or not. At high levels one is treated as a mixed race of a materialized Divine Spirit, and the level declines when the Heroic Spirit's own rank as a Monster, Demonic Beast raises. It can also decrease due one's dislike for the gods. It also has an effect which reduces special defensive values called "purge defense" in proportion to the Divinity's Rank. It can break through Skills such as Protection of the Faith.
- B: The son of a mortal mother and the ruling god Zeus, Saber is a high-grade demigod. As the son of the sky god he has great defensive affinity against others with divine heritage related to wind, lightning or rulership.
Self-Suggestion
Suggestion applied to oneself. A skill that raises resistance against mental interference.
- C: Less a deliberate suggestion applied through self-hypnosis and more a delusion of grandeur imbued by boasting and arrogance, Saber is nonetheless able to instill in himself a delicate and false imitation of Bravery at Rank B as long as he is in an environment where he can talk himself up and amp up his own confidence through others. However, too long by himself to contemplate his own failings, or being faced with too great a risk of failure and defeat, shatters this delusion, transforming the imitation skill into Self-Preservation, with an additional compulsion to flee the battle to an area of safety that Saber finds difficult to resist.
Harpe
Immortal Slaying Scythe
Type: Anti-Unit
Rank: D
Range: 1-4
Targets: 1
A unique monster-killing holy “sword”, Harpe is more reminiscent of a sickle or a scythe and is more suited to being called a spear or a polearm than a sword. However, Perseus insisted that his weapon was no mere sickle but rather a sword of extraordinary design, suited to an extraordinary hero such as himself. It’s blatantly incorrect boasting, but has influenced legend enough that Harpe is able to be considered a sword and thus Perseus a Saber, the greatest Servant class. It is a divine sword gifted to Perseus by Hermes in order to slay the Gorgon Medusa, and is possessed of traits so specialised for Gorgon slaying that it can be considered an “Anti-Medusa” weapon.
The sword’s blade is a hook, with the sharpened edge on the inside curve of the hook rather than the outside, making it a difficult weapon to use at the best of times. Between the awkward design and the generally lackluster traits it possesses, Harpe cannot be considered to be an outstanding weapon in and of itself, no matter how much its owner may protest otherwise. In this way, the sword is a reflection of Saber himself.
The one true strength of Harpe is that it possesses the trait of “Refraction of Longevity”, a divine attribute that nullifies the “immortality” of certain individuals and inflicts lasting wounds that cannot be healed by any means except normal biological laws. This allows the weapon to circumvent healing by methods such as Reversion or Default State, but it is in all other aspects a perfectly mundane weapon.
Gorgoneion
Divine Petrifying Shield
Type: Barrier / Anti-Army
Rank: A
Range: 1-20
Targets: 200
The mirrored shield of Athena that was granted to Perseus in order to avoid Medusa’s deadly Mystic Eyes of Petrification. A divine protection that has the concept of “aegis” contained within it, this shield is a small silvery buckler that can, on command, expand a planar Bounded Field around its physical form, in a manner similar to its descendant shield Rho Aias. Though not as specialised against a particular form of attack as the mighy Rho Aias, the Gorgoneion is still an admirable defensive tool with strong protective capabilities.
However, the shield’s name hints at the true nature of it, which is far more than the simple protective ward that Athena intended it to be when loaning it to Perseus. After his victory over the fearsome Gorgon, Perseus was able to modify the shield of Athena, integrating the crystallised eyes of Medusa into the very core of the buckler, masked by a bronze centrepiece that dilates open once the shield’s True Name is declared.
When this Noble Phantasm is fully invoked and large sums of prana are poured into it, the magical circuits within the crystallised eyes ignite, activating the deadly petrification of Cybele. The eyes glow with prismatic light and anyone who looks at the light experiences physical paralysis, unable to be resisted without a Magic Parameter greater than Rank C. Even if Rank B or higher Magic is possessed, the individual will experience a “pressure” that weighs down the body and Ranks down all physical parameters. Despite having a weakened effect as compared to when they were possessed by Medusa, the eyes of Cybele are still potent and maintain their effect for as long as prana is kept flowing through them, but the effects of petrification will rapidly wear off once ceased, especially to those with Magic Resistance.
The costs of maintaining the petrification ability of Gorgoneion are high, especially for the magically-impotent Perseus, so he often uses the ability only for long enough to escape from battle to live another day and boast about his adventures once he’s reconstructed the scenario in a more positive light within his own mind.
