Cur Deus Homo- Nihil Autem Est Supra Omne Quod Deus Non Est, Nisi Deus: (A, Barrier): Ruler’s first Noble Phantasm has resulted from his work in creating and popularising the satisfaction theory of atonement. In his book “Cur Deus Homo” or “Why God became Man” Ruler argued that Christ’s death was atonement. However, unlike the previous stance of the Church that Christ dies to atone a debt to the Devil, Ruler claimed Christ’s death was an atonement to God, for the sins of mankind. Sins that could only be paid with an infinite good, which could only be God himself. It was a major work of theology and has shaped Christian dogma until the present day.
A constantly active Noble Phantasm that is inherent to Ruler’s existence, as much a part of him as his Saint-Graph or his Skills. A soft glow that emanates from Ruler’s body, it is not enough to illuminate the area surrounding Ruler, though it is visually similar to the light of Excalibur or other Divine Constructs those who have seen both will feel that it is quite different to such light. The light acts as a conceptual barrier of sorts, shielding Ruler’s body both externally and internally. As example of the satisfaction theory of atonement any result of “ill will” that comes into contact with this barrier can be redirected to “a being of infinite good”, or God. Effectively this makes attacks that encounter Ruler nothing, they are being redirected to a conceptually unkillable being having no true effect on anyone. A Noble Phantasm compensating for Ruler’s low Endurance parameter, it will negate almost anything that could harm Ruler, attacks, curses, magecraft of all kinds, perhaps even True Magic although this will likely not be tested. Only an attack of incredibly power, such as a Noble Phantasm of A Rank or higher, could hope to pierce Cur Deus Homo.
It should be noted that trying to harm Ruler with an attack related to Divinity is utterly futile, both Holy and Unholy weaponry is absolutely ineffective against Cur Deus Homo as, by representing mankind’s forgiveness for it’s original sin, any debt or power such Holy or Unholy power had over Ruler is negated. It may even be better to concentrate on defeating this Noble Phantasm instead of looking for some kind of Anti-Saint weaponry.
Proslogion- Ergo domine credimus te esse aliquid quo nihil maius cogitari possit: (EX, Anti-Unit): Ruler’s second and most powerful Noble Phantasm, while Cur Deus Homo provides an incredibly powerful defense, Proslogion is a Noble Phantasm of almost unparalleled offensive power.
The Proslogion was a book written in the style of a meditation, it is famous for outlining one of the first known examples of the Ontological Argument for the Existence of God. The argument will only be briefly outlined and even then in a very crude sense, Anselm argues God to be logically necessary as being “that which no greater thing could be conceived”. Anselm then asserts that if God is “that which no greater thing could be conceived” that it must exist, as something which exists is greater than something which does not exist.
Upon invoking the full name of the Noble Phantasm a single target of Ruler’s choice is affected. It is almost as if an internal debate starts within that person as the Ontological Argument is planted directly into their thoughts, this initial “attack” of sorts is not resistible by any means, Magic Resistance, Mental Pollution or Divinity will not aid the target in avoiding this. What will be an instant to those watching the target might be an hour inside the mind of the target as they debate whether or not the Ontological Argument proves the existence of God.
In the case that they accept the Argument, or are not able to provide a logical reason for their disagreement with the Argument, the “being above all else”, that is, God will be created within the target. They are now at Ruler’s mercy, while they maintain free will and nothing will truly seem to have changed to the target they could, at a moment, be defeated by Ruler. If Ruler willed it, an Absolute power above all else would cause the target to disappear, their body would disintegrate like a pile of dust when faced with a strong wind. Ultimately, there is unlikely to be a way to resist this attack, to resist omnipotence, if the target is not able to defeat the internal Argument.
If the target is able to provide counter-arguments and as such disprove the Ontological Argument in a logical manner the “being above all else” cannot come into existence within them, instead the attack will take on a mental form, severely damaging the target. However in this instance resistance to mental attacks, such as that provided by Mental Pollution, can aid the target in surviving this damage.
