You know I didn't say anything about it inthe first trailer, but actually seeing the Republic and the people living there really shows how eerie it is versus just reading about it. I really liked the trailer, I don't think I have anything worry about now.

This visual looks so sick, the chara designs are really nice. Not Shirabii tier, but its hard to match a god. Definitely better than the Ryuuou anime which really didnt do Shirabiis god tier art justice at all.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but Anno really needed to read Latent Heat of Sublimation.

He went for the 'make Ayanami Rei get pregnant' ending to demonstrate how the world moved on from the stan's object of focus, but in fact the stan's schizoid mind has since moved on from Anno's original understanding of it so this critique no longer means anything.

While I'd like to see one of the game that I haven't played due it not being on Playstation like Sky or Crossbell, Steel is probably the most anime one. They even set it in a highschool for fucks sake.

Of all the descriptions of Anno one might use, that is not the one that first comes to mind.

Making it look impressive or even just new is already competence. That's how the technoabrahamic flavor got in in the first place.

He's not omnipotent, though. Asuka in Rebuild is a new character because he genuinely does not know how to help the original one. So he doesn't pretend to. Hell, you could say Asuka herself was the quintessential otherness you could feel throughout the show, and in that sense she could have never had true closure. Anno only knows how to give Shinji, himself, a good ending, and demonstrates some stuff on other people he makes up from the ground. You could say that's 'knowing what he's doing'.
