I recently watched the rather godawful CGI movie "Beowulf", and inevitably decided to pretty up my old Beowulf profile. Before I'd had issues with working out how to incorporate all his various swords that only got used once and then broke, but I think I've figured it out now. Say hello to the hyper-specialised monster-slayer who slays monsters real good.
Beowulf
King of the Geats
Class: Saber
Alternate Classes: None
Parameters:
Strength: C++
Endurance: A
Agility: D+
Magic: D
Luck: C
Class Skills
Magic Resistance
Grants protection from magical effects. Capable of cancelling spells altogether instead of simply rejecting prana, at a high enough rank.
- C: An ordinary level of resistance for the Saber Class, it resists any magecraft up to a Two-Verse Aria completely.
Riding
The ability to ride animals or control vehicles with sure, steadfast skill.
- C+: A capable enough rider, Saber is able to ride any normal animal or vehicle with great ease and skill. However, he cannot ride any sort of Magical Beast. Saber gains a bonus while sailing a boat or similar water-bound transportation.
Personal Skills
Aquatic Affinity
The Servant is extremely comfortable with water, such that he is able to operate while submerged or otherwise in an aquatic environment without impediment.
- B: Saber was extremely fond of swimming and often had races with other great warriors, effortlessly slaying sea-serpents as he swam for miles and miles with great speed. While in the water, Saber gains a Plus Modifier to his Agility and is able to stay submerged indefinitely, maintaining his prana at an equilibrium by drawing upon the latent prana in the aquatic environment.
Beast Slayer
Well known for his skill at slaughtering dangerous creatures, this individual gains a bonus to Strength when fighting them.
- A++: When fighting anything that has Monstrous or Draconic traits, Saber gains a Plus Modifier to his Strength and his attacks may be treated as Phantasm attacks if this would be beneficial to him. Additionally, if he is fighting unarmed then he gains an additional Plus Modifier as well as Anti-Monster and Anti-Dragon traits, and is able to overcome defensive abilities or other protective effects that these monsters have that are equal to or lower than his Base Strength. Unfortunately, due to intensity of Saber's fighting style any weapon he uses will always break after one or two strikes, regardless of whether any of the conditional modifiers of this skill are being applied at the time or not.
Eye of the Mind (False)
An innate talent to sense and avoid danger based on intuition, that can also be called the Sixth Sense or prescience, gained through many ordeals and adventures. As a natural talent to avoid danger, it greatly differs from Eye of the Mind (True), which is danger avoidance that originates from “predictions augmented by experience”.
- C: The Servant is able to sense most changes within the battlefield and has an increased chance to see through the feints or sly maneuvers of others. Can instantly sense negative intent on the battlefield as well as gaining a small bonus to his combat and defense rolls even when caught offguard.
Honorable Hunter
It is unfair to fight a man using a knife by wielding a gun as the battlefield is uequal. Is it any less fair then, to fight a wild beast using only the natural weapons and skills you have earned in life? Equalising the scales against an enemy grants the user variable benefits in kind.
- B: When facing the great monster Grendel, Saber opted to fight unarmed and naked, feeling that armour was an unfair advantage even in the face of Grendel’s immunity to manmade weapons. By temporarily relinquishing his armour, Saber can reduce his Endurance by 2 ranks to increase his Agility by 2 ranks for the same duration of time.
Jotunnsax
Golden Hoarfrost Blade
Type: Anti-Unit/Anti-Monster
Rank: A++
Range: 1-4
Targets: 1-3
After slaying the accursed beast Grendel, Saber was forced to face off against the creature’s mother as well, as she sought revenge for her child’s death. However, the mother monster bore upon her body great enchantments and divine protection coursed through her veins, such that even the most magical of mortal weapons or attacks were unable to harm her. During the course of his heated battle within the mother’s lair Saber was fortunate enough to come upon an enormous golden blade, a sword as long as he was tall, and using this sword he was able to decapitate Grendel’s mother, the golden sword succeeding where other weapons had failed.
The reason for the power of this sword is that it was in actuality a hunting dagger used by the powerful jotnar, the semi-divine giants who roamed the mythic hunting plains that Saber journeyed across. Though enormous to the standards of any man, this was nothing but a forgettable knife to the giant jotnar, and it bore the divine enchantments of the jotnar upon it also. The golden blade was in actuality crafted from eternal ice, a hoarfrost blade that glimmered with magical light constructed by a species so distant from humanity that even the strongest of defences against “the weapons of man” would not protect against it. Carved all along the hilt and even within the crystallised blade are a variety of runes, eldritch markings written in the tongue of the jotnar, cryptic and powerful in magecraft that dated back to the Age of Gods. Beyond this, the golden sword was holy in nature, and in so many ways was similar to other fine holy swords of the era, so it is unsurprising that it is such a potent blade.
When used, the blade glows with intense golden light and will easily bypass any and all defenses that are not at least equal in rank to it, and even then will batter through most such protection. It is capable of slaying the unkillable, wounding the unwoundable and achieving the unthinkable, so injuries caused by it will not heal. Finally, it is an indestructible weapon, completely immune to conventional damage or effects that would otherwise damage it.
However, the crystallization of the mystery of Jotunnsax is a double-edged blade, as alongside the victory over Grendel’s mother it also crystallises the loss of the blade to her poisonous blood. Not even a holy and divine construct such as this golden sword could resist being tainted by her evil ichor, and so the hoarfrost blade melted away, unable to serve Saber loyally in the future. Encapsulating this, the sword will be lost after it is used to kill another Servant or a monster or individual of similar spiritual power and worth, never to be used again.
