Considering the kind of toxicity between the moderates and lefties in the Dems, might be in the whole Left's interest in the long run for the wings to split into different parties... there'd be an incentive to actually talk through shit rather than over each other since you'd need a coalition to win.

Lukewarm take but being a female is mostly a boon to your candidacy as I believe there is a larger contingent of people who are really energized to see a female president than there are those who are viscerally turned off by the mere notion of female leaders.
And an addendum, when the US finally does get its female president I hope everyone shuts the fuck up and doesn't turn it into a celebratory occasion. The rest of the world has had women leaders since forever already and the US getting one wouldn't be anything special.
It wasn't the deciding factor, no, but it still was something they went after her for. And getting Obama to run would have been easy since that's internal in the party. The actual election is where she'd hit the roadblocks of good old boys.
The party races tend to be where you see the actual biases within the parties, since they're not trying to pull a united front, and when was the last time there was a significant female candidate for the GOP? there's always one or two in there, but they tend to drop out relatively early, right after the token Black candidate.

Hot take, but maybe right now rape accusations don't even matter politically? I mean, we have a Prez who was fairly credibly accused of raping a child, B. Clinton made it through similar with an adult. Brett was confirmed. Roy Moore overwhelmingly won Republican voters when he ran (he just was outvoted by black people who broke Dem). Sexual misconduct has been widely exposed across the echelons of power... and it doesn't seem to affect how people vote. Maybe not even how they spend their money. It's mostly protests on social media, a once-a-year march, and the most significant thing, lawsuits.
Which have a tendency to disappear so long as you don't become a liability to the greater machinery of power. See the first Epstein case.

I wouldn't say he can't win. It's just uphill and banks more on people hating Trump more than they like him. As a candidate, he's got a lot of weaknesses. The least vulnerable ones got little support in favor of the Biden/Sanders dynamic. Both likely would have been ripped to shreds due to their long careers and other problems.
Now we're looking at what's essentially a binary choice between Trump and Biden, barring something like one of those two dying of Covid, Mcjon's arrest scenario, a brokered convention for Bloomberg, or whatever other left field scenario you want.
Sure, you can stay home, but no one's going to listen to you if you do. You're just gonna be written off as another "nonvoting youth." You can hold your nose and vote for whoever. Or write in someone you'd prefer and at least send a message.

The people most hurt by Biden's policies that he refuses to acknowledge caused massive job loss in the US? Or, most recently, the people that he explicitly berated and said that he doesn't work for?
Going back to poll numbers, sure, Biden's ahead now, but his lead is within the margin of error, and he's doing significantly worse than Hillary was on another polled metric at this point in time, voter enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, polls of hypothetical Bernie vs Trump scenarios still have Bernie consistently beating Trump by ~6 points, versus Biden who bounces anywhere between 2 and 10 points in a manner of days, with sharp rises and falls.
If the argument is that Biden is the best pick because he's the safest, then it's not reflective in how volatile his polling spread is.

side note BTW I am actually for M4A but I’m a hospital social worker, of course I am. But I’m also socially aware enough to realize that just because I want something doesn’t mean the right people in the right place want it, and therefor I know for an absolute certainty that the only way it or something like it is going to pass is if the public option is passed, and it becomes so wildly popular that it ends up the de facto only insurance. That’s it. That’s the only way we will see it in our lifetime. So I support the candidate I think is going to get us there. Joe Biden.
