Doesn't stop you giving it more, different abilities. I mean, we have a canon precedent with Gae Bolg.

...Also, wasn't Hrunting the sword which didn't work in the legend? He had at least a couple other extra swords, the one that actually did the job against Grendelmom (unnamed?) and the one which broke when he fought the dragon. Nægling it was.

That's the neater way to do it. If you don't want to make a whole new NP for the sword, though, you can add on little bits to the current gimmick and say that they were missing because of the down-ranked projection.

Whew. Now, here's one of the most interesting Servant's I've spent time making; he's definitely a really fascinating individual, and in his own time he was pretty much the most famous person of legend you could find.

    -------------------------------

    Servant: Prester John
    Class: Caster
    Master: ???

Background: Once upon a time, a Christian boy lived in Central Asia. It was the late 11th century AD, and Prester John was born into a simple Nestorian Christian family in the Orient. His family's only claim to fame was that they were allegedly descended from one of the three magi that visited Jesus' legendary birth.

An otherwise normal child, John was fascinated by myths and legends, like the Alexander romance, and wished that he had an exciting life like those old heroes. He became quite literate through his dedication to readings, and yet he mourned his dull, unimportant life. In his childhood, his imagination never greater, he imagined a magical kingdom for himself where he was a hero, just like Arthur or Alexander or any chivalrous knight of yore. The only special talent he had was a simple one: he was gifted with a little magical skill, enough to make small toys and bursts of light, which delighted his friends and his siblings. He took this talent as a sign when he discovered it, and worked off of its miniscule power to delight himself with imaginings of how he could improve, and he tried his best to become better and better, to no avail.

It was later in his life that, searching through his family's belongings, he came across some old books, covered with many ages of dust. He read and studied these books, kept here from long ago, the last writings of the last magus in Prester John's once-grand bloodline. The old tomes spoke of magic and mystery, and Prester John spent years studying it, doing whatever was needed to research this magecraft. It was then, finally, after decades of ceaseless study, that Prester John unlocked the secrets of his ancestors. He had managed, as far as he knew, to create a land of fantasy and legend, where he himself was the centre of it all.

Excited beyond reason, John wrote a letter detailing this “kingdom” he had found, and sent it to Europe, addressed to the Christian ruler of the Byzantine Empire at the time as a matter of priestly importance – Prester John was, at this point, a priest in his own small community. Earlier, people who had associated with Prester John and had been shown his “kingdom” and sent out fervent reports to Europe of a king in India, and along the way these reports were distorted beyond what Prester John meant to convey in his actions or his coming letter.

Soon enough, Prester John was a legendary figure of awe and mystery in Europe, with many, many people trying to find his kingdom in India. Given that it was actually a powerful bounded field, the searchers always failed to find this kingdom, but they never gave up, going to India, China, Ethiopia and Mongolia in search of Prester John.

However, Prester John was but a man, and men eventually age and die. Using his own techniques, Prester John managed to lock himself away in his magical kingdom where he ruled, never quite dying but never returning to reality.

For centuries the people of Europe searched even into the corners of the world for Prester John's kingdom, and from time to time in his bounded field Prester John received reports of those same people looking for his kingdom even as he hid himself away.

But, in time, people realized that perhaps there was no kingdom, and Prester John stopped hearing of people looking for his kingdom; he was, at last, safe. In his last efforts Prester John made his bounded field a true reality marble, a representation of his soul searching always for some importance in the world. Having had achieved that, and with the people of the world finally seeing him as but a myth, Prester John could be at peace.

His death was never announced, and his body never found; the real man that was Prester John was thought to have never existed, yet the legend lived on.

    Class Skills:

    Territory Creation – E

    • Outside of his Noble Phantasm, Prester John has only the abilities of a minor magus, being able to create a small magical circle in which he gains some power.

    Item Creation – E

    • Outside of his Noble Phantasm, Prester John can only create nonmagical objects that last for a short period of time, equivalent to similar modern magecraft techniques.

    Personal Skills:

    Imperial Privilege – EX

    • Related to his Noble Phantasm, Prester John can acquire any skill associated to him in legend – so long as he takes on the other abilities and deficiencies of that legend.

    Information Erasure – C

    • Information is not removed, but instead distorted;instead of specific Noble Phantasms or attacks, witnesses recall a varied makeup of different concepts that are immediately associated to Prester John. However, this is only memory manipulation, and physical evidence left behind still remains, and none of the distorted information is technically false; it is equivalent to smudging written words with an eraser, for example.

    Noble Phantasm(s):

Kingdom of Three IndiasLord of the OrientA+
    Anti-Army

In his own legend, Prester John is associated with a magical kingdom somewhere in India (which, in medieval thought, included actual India, Ethiopia, and several other parts of the world), a kingdom which existed in proximity to the perfect realm of Eden, and which claimed ownership of numerous grand artifacts of medieval legend, like the Fountain of Youth. This magical kingdom is, in essence, the land of Prester John.

This Noble Phantasm takes the form of an unnaturally potent reality marble, the only magecraft that the actual Prester John managed to achieve, and a result of his lineage. Inside the reality marble, all of Prester John's kingdom becomes real, a grand and sweeping representation of the person he wished himself to be. Within, the stats of himself and his enemy (only one, if multiple) are switched, with the intruder playing the role of a pilgrim to the transcendent kingdom.

Prester John can also take on the form of whichever hero or famous figure he desires, favouring Alexander, Genghis Khan and the disciples of Jesus. He can rearrange the reality marble into whatever he wishes, using myths and legends that already exist to form his own kingdom, the legendary, geographically vague Kingdom of Three Indias.

Unlike most reality marbles, the Kingdom of Three Indias can be effectively maintained for as long as Prester John retains power, or until the true man behind the legend is revealed through extremely careful, lengthy study. Upon the wilful ending of the reality marble, Prester John can release the people inside – including himself – wherever he wishes within a three kilometre radius of the point where the reality marble was initially activated.

    Prester John's LetterTales of IntrigueA++
    Anti-Unit

This is the greatest mystery of Prester John: his claim to all legends, all myths, and all lands. It was this letter that truly began his own legend, wherein it was claimed that his kingdom possessed all the legends sought after by medieval authors and kings and common people alike.

The Noble Phantasm has two main effects: first, it allows Prester John to use his own version of any Noble Phantasm he has seen, putting his own twist on the legend. The Noble Phantasm, when copied, is exactly as powerful as the original version, but if it is used against the actual Noble Phantasm, Prester John's version will be rendered “false” and unusable.

The second main effect is to fuel rumours about Prester John's abilities; for example, if a Master or Servant thinks that Prester John has extreme speed, then Prester John will gain extreme speed. Similarly, if something they see in his reality marble is believed to be a normal effect of Prester John's abilities, then even outside of his reality marble Prester John will have that ability. This has very good compatibility with his Information Erasure skill.

However, that second effect works against Prester John: negative rumours about his abilities will also be reflected in Prester John's actual abilities, and if any rumour is proven “false,” then Prester John will no longer have the effects that the rumour grants him.

Like his reality marble, if Prester John's true nature is revealed, then this Noble Phantasm becomes effectively useless.

    Stats:

    Strength - E
    Agility - D
    Magic - C++
    Luck - A+
    Endurance – D

    ----------------------------

He's certainly a bit overpowered, but given his ridiculous legends and such, it kind of makes sense.

Why is his MGI C++? What did you mean to represent by that, more or less than B? Does he sometimes get a boost to the stat? If so, when? Inside his RM? Please clarify.

Other than that, he is interesting, mainly because I can envision many scenarios in which brute force is not the answer to beating him, forcing his opponents to out maneuver him in a far less straightforward battle.

Would Karna's "Discernment of the Poor (A)" or other such skills be able to easily deduce his true nature?

C++ in terms of prana would be like a high-capacity reservoir with a small faucet attached. His output isn't fantastic, but instead he has a lot of prana to draw upon.

Karna, as an example, wouldn't be prone to believing the rumours and such (and maybe Information Erasure, as well), but at the same time would still see Prester John as the legendary guy; after all, Prester John is the man of legend, and that's no deception. Discernment of the Poor wouldn't help find out about the real man named Prester John, since he effectively is the legend created around him. Also, I think Karna's version only works against what people say, and not what they are.

I seem to remember that the MGI stat was solely an indicator of the amount of Mana possessed by the Servant, the output of the magical circuit does not factor into it. "Seem" being the keyword here. I am not 100% positive.

"Insight to see through the opponent's character and attribute" and "It expresses the power to grasp the true nature of the opponent possessed by Karna" are parts of food's translation of Discernment of the Poor. That he can see through deception by words is probably just a side effect of the aforementioned..

Ah, but how could he see normal dude Prester John when the "true nature" of his opponent is the legendary Prester John? :P

It's less that a person has to discover the "true nature" of Prester John and more that they have to find out that his legend is based on an ordinary person, and how that ordinary person created the legend. The Servant summoned is the legendary Prester John, and his true nature is the legend of Prester John. However, by revealing the true history of the ordinary man named Prester John, then the Servant/Master/etc. can just go, "Oh, wow, he's not even supposed to have these powers. He's supposed to be a normal dude." And then the power of rumours and legends falls back on Prester John and he's lost it all, effectively becoming normal dude Prester John.

But his "true nature" is also Normal Dude Prester John.

Do not underestimate Karna's suspiciousface.jpg, he can do this.

Well, mainly because you used the exact same wording as an example

Consider that at A-rank, Karna's DotP is pretty much an insight at the level of a supernatural power. There is no real "basis" for his discovery of Prester's true nature, it just happens to be a hunch that just happens to be correct. But in the end, I suppose there is no real need to argue about this. After all, you made him, so I cannot really object if you say no.

The "C++" MGI stat still peeves me to an incredible degree because of how ambiguous it is. If you had not explained it in another post, there would not have been a way for me to know for certain what it represented.

If it's just an "insight" then it would probably have the same effect as a baseless rumour, really. The more potent a rumour's potential effect, the more basis there has to be. Karna going around saying, "Hey! This guy's a PHONY!" would not be enough basis for a rumour.

    It'd end up like this:

Prester John: I am Prester John, fear my kingdom and stuff.
Karna: You totally don't have those powers, man.
    Prester John: Or do I??

And also you take that C++ MGI too srsly, brah.

I take everything too seriously! Most of the time!

In all honesty though, it is not something directed at you, merely a peeve I have built up after going through over a hundred profiles, a few of them rather inane and stupid. Those + modifiers are too readily handed out. I mean, in the other thread (in the fanfic subforum) there was a profile with a END C++++ ranking. I did not know what to think. What did this mean? What did it represent? There was no indication of why it could not have been A++ or something with the same numerical value, so I once again had to ask the person who made the profile, which is a sign of weakness in terms of design.

Hmmm... As for the other stuff, I guess I will leave it at "well I don't really understand but, ok!". Could you clarify what then is required for the Noble Phantasms to lose their effects?

You'd have to first figure out that the actual Prester John wasn't a very legendary figure - something Karna's skill might be able to do - and then you'd have to figure out how exactly a normal person managed to have that sort of legend built around him. Which could be done by finding one of Prester John's letters, or doing heavy research.

Of course, things like Information Erasure make that difficult. He's definitely a tricky Servant to completely pin down, and at the same time he's only as powerful as you let him become.

So you have the have the "DEFINITIVE TRUTH" in order to unravel them? Seems like the job for a detective!

Icarus, eh? I can see how it did not go any well for you. He is not that notable of a figure. I would have a hard time coming up with any personal skills for him. Though I guess he would be a Rider with the Wax Wings NP? You would definitely have to take some rather heavy liberties in order to make him interesting.
