Bradamante actually tried to take both the shield and the hippogriff, but as she approached them the hippogriff flew off, shield in tow, and eventually they wound up with Ruggiero.

That makes him as a Servant in Apocrypha all the more interesting. Jeez, if he was summoned in France he'd be like a freakin' magical Batman.. who is also a trap.

I interrupt my regular addition of Servants I already made to post a completely new one I got done yesterday. Mesopotamian heroes can wait.

    *******
    *******

    FARAN MAKA BOTE

    Servant: Lancer (Caster)

    Gender: Male
    Height: 204 cm
    Weight: 107 kg

    Alignment: Lawful Good

Appearance: A tall, muscular young adult with dark skin and a flawless, almost sparkling smile. His hairless head is round-shaped; maybe even a little pudgy. His intense aquamarine eyes are clearly non-human in their luster. He wears a plain white robe with a v-shaped neck. The neck gap and the ends of the sleeves have geometric patterns in brown, red and gold. Underneath the robe, only a piece of white linen is tied to cover his crotch.

    Strength B
    Endurance C
    Agility A
    Magic C
    Luck C
    Noble Phantasm C+

    Class Skills:
    * Magic Resistance: Grants protection against magical effects.
E – Cannot cancel spells, but magic damage is reduced somewhat.

    Personal Skills:
    * Divinity: The measure of whether one has Divine Spirit aptitude or not.
D – The son of a human fisherman and a river spirit.
    * High-Speed Divine Words: The power to activate Thaumaturgy without the use of Magic Circuits. The language of the Age of Gods, back when words played a heavy role in spellcasting. As such, it is power long lost by modern magi.
    E – Roughly equivalent to High-Speed Aria.
    * Riding: Expertise to ride animals and vehicles.
B- – Most vehicles can be handled with above-average skill. However, cannot ride the likes of Phantasm Races such as Demonic Beast and Holy Beast-rank creatures. Faran Baru’s riding skill is limited to aquatic vehicles and creatures.

    Noble Phantasms:
    * Zogu Zirbin – Maw of the Niger Predator
    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: C+
    Range: 2-10
Maximum number of targets: 1 person

Faran Baru’s first spear, made from the transmuted body of Zirbin Sangay Moyo. It is the hunting spear allowed Faran Maka Bote to stalk and bring death to many powerful beasts. Its appearance is extremely simple, for it is not the habit of African cultures to sacrifice functionality for the sake of aesthetics when it comes to basic necessities. As long as Faran holds the spear, his footsteps make no sound and his body exudes no scent.

The spear’s magic uses the water content of the environment to emulate a crocodile’s jaw clamping action. With swing of the pole arm, the water in the space around the target coalesces and rushes towards the target from opposite directions, seizing it like a crocodile’s maw. The source of the water is irrelevant: whether it comes from the ground, the atmosphere or the local plant life, the spear will claim absolute control over it. Even modern Water-Element Thaumaturgy can be controlled by the superior mystery of the spear, regardless of rank. Naturally, the attack’s versatility is maximized when used within a significant water source.

    * Zogu Babingay – Bride of the Niger Predator
    Type: Anti-Unit
    Rank: C+
    Range: 0
Maximum number of targets: 1 person

The “mate” harpoon Faran Maka Bote crafted to act as a companion for Zogu Zirbin. While it is certainly usable as a killing tool, it is primarily a supporting device to improve the other spear’s performance and functionality. It is almost identical to its counterpart, except that the spear blade is split in the middle, resulting in a two-pronged weapon.

Zogu Babingay allows Faran to transmute his own prana into water at will. Furthermore, as long as he holds the weapon, Faran cannot be harmed, hampered or restrained by water of any source or nature, either natural or magical. Water-based spells have no effect on him, he can move while underwater with the same grace and agility as if he were on land, without ever suffering from asphyxiation. Elementals of lakes and rivers cannot harm him, and neither can scalding hot fluid. Finally, the range and attack rate of Zogu Zirbin is doubled.

    Background
The West African hero, remembered by the ethnic groups along the margin of the Niger River as a legendary fisherman, exorcist and the very first of the sorko, a kind of magus that relies on divine possession. He was born the son of fisherman Nisile Bote and his wife, the river spirit Maka. They lived in Kare Kaptu, a village near the border of current-day Niger and Benin. Only a few meters from that thorp, there was an island in the middle of the Niger, chock full of river spirits that delighted in teasing and pranking the local fishermen, more often than not with lethal consequences. Faran’s mother prayed to her own mother, the spirit queen of the river, Harakoy Dikko, who found the leader of the evil spirits, Zirbin Sangay Moyo, and turned him into a strip of iron, which Faran would then use to forge the bladed tip of his first and greatest spear.

When Faran Maka Bote left to explore the lands to the north, the blind spirit Zinkibaru took control of the river with the power of his music, which enthralled the animals and spirits to do his bidding. Knowing Faran would oppose him, Zinkibaru would send animals to ravage Faran’s crops, and he would lead the hippos away to deny Faran his favorite meal. In their first meeting, Zinkibaru’s magic proved superior to Faran’s mettle, and the young fisherman was humiliated and his boat stolen. Only once he received instruction from his mother on how to counter Zinkibaru’s Divine Words was he capable of defeating and slaying the mischievous spirit. Claiming Zinkibaru’s instruments, Faran Maka Bote gained control over the spirits of the Niger, if only for some time. It did not last long, for the spirits became aware of Faran’s good-natured attitude and the fact his punishments were not substantially harsh, and thus became increasingly assertive. Furthermore, the great lightning god Dongo was made angry by the death of Zinkibaru—even if he was ill-natured, he still sang praises to the great god. At the behest of Harakoy Dikko, Faran swore to become Dongo’s bard, and the god then gave him the title ‘Faran Baru’ (the youngest [of the river spirits]) and taught him the sacred praise-poetry of the spirits. Then, Dongo announced to both humans and spirits that the gods, with the exception of Harakoy Dikko, would depart to the heavens. From that moment, spirits became invisible to the eyes of ordinary humans—this is considered the end of the Age of Gods in West African tradition.

This event is remembered as the first yene: a ceremony in which human beings can see the spirits and hear their commands and advice. Every year afterwards, Faran recited the praise-poetry while trained musicians produced beseeching music. In response, the spirits would descend from the heavens and take the bodies of human dancers to interact with the people for one evening.

    Keyword
Way of the Hunter, Way of the Sorko: Faran Maka Bote can also be summoned in the Caster-class. He would have Item Construction Rank B, representing his capabilities to craft advanced ritual tools and weapons, and Territory Creation A-, for he can only build a Temple in a land that fulfills specific geographic and geomantic constrains—proximity to a body of running water, presence of significant flora and fauna, existence of an untapped leyline connected to the river. His Noble Phantasms would be the guitar he claimed from Zinkibaru, which allows him to control river spirits and beasts, and the clay pot of the god, Dongo, with which Faran could invoke divine lightning to smite his enemies.

You probably need a better magus to pull that off.

Here's another Servant you will probably see later in one project...

But yeah, a bit weirder, this time.
    ------------------------------------

    Assassin
    Spirit: King of Fools
    Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
    Strength: E
    Endurance: E
    Agility: B+
    Mana: B+
    Luck: EX
    Noble Phantasm: ??

    Abilities:

    Presence Concealment
The capacity to hide one's presence as a Servant. It is a common skill to the Assassin class.
    • X: No rank in this skill. His assignment to the Assassin class comes from his Shapeshifting skill.

    Details:

King of Fools. Also known as King of Gypsies, Lord of Misrule and Prince des Sots.

He is not an actual Heroic Spirit or a person to exist, but rather, what was believed to exist. The one who directed and ruled over those who were poor, misfortunate, shunned and unlucky. In other words, the ruler of thieves and outcasts. An anti-hero created by the belief of those outside this undesired group, someone to act as the figure-head of those who were hated and scorned.

There are many names for him and his appearance comes from the many who were accused to hold the title. And while some held the title, they are and are not him. He is simply the amalgam of every personality, rumor and tall-tale attributed to the mythical king. In other words, his womanizing, the spectral cat that follows him and his masterful ability with harp are all just parts of other people that added to the name of “King of Gypsies”.

It could be said that many fictional accounts are what truly tie him together. Whether king of beggars, truants, fools or shunned, it is clear that he was “believed in” and thus he was turned into literary character. Usually both benevolent and malevolent, a chaotic person who sometimes aided and sometimes hampered the true heroes of the tales.

Although he has no real true name, likes to be referred as Trouillefou, because it makes him feel most heroic, something he finds fitting for Holy Grail War, where everyone else is a true hero.

    Skills:

    Charisma
The natural talent to command an army. Increases the ability of allies during group battles. A rare talent.
    • C-: Not the charisma to lead great crowds, but the actual ability to affect emotions of masses. Whether it is pushing people into revelry or turning them into angry mob, anything is possible, as long as necessary preparations are made.

    Discernment of the Poor
The insight to see through the opponent's character and attribute.
    • A: Will not be deceived by excuses and deceptions from words. Being the king of lies and deceit, a figure built on tall-tales, he cannot be fooled or deceived.

    Disengage
The ability to break away from combat.
    • C: Bonus effect of returning battle conditions to what they were at the beginning of the match.

    Expert of Many Specializations
Access to and use of many expert skills.
    • A: A total of 30 different skills ranging from pickpocketing, academia, espionage, assassination, swindling, rhetoric and others can be used with proficiency of Rank B or below. This ability works in perfect conjunction with Shapeshift.

    Shapeshift
Refers to both borrowing bodies and appearance change.
    • A-: Capability to take any form, as long as it is that of a human. As Assassin owns no true form, he can be anyone and anybody. His ability is so perfect that he can become any face in the crowd or in the background, creating a replication of Presence Concealment.

    Noble Phantasms:

    Cour Des Miracles
Title: The Streets are Full of Miracles
    Rank: ??
    Type: ??
    Range: ??
    Maximum Target: ??

Noble Phantasm that is more akin to fate around Assassin than anything else.

In the vicinity of Assassin he is always bound to find allies, hiding places, secret passages and weapons and escape-routes. In other words, the area around Assassin is always at his side. It is the custom and belief that thieves, beggars and criminals always worked together that creates this strange Noble Phantasm.

It is not actually changing the reality or anything so grand. Things are just happening to the advantage of Assassin in every case, or rather, his environment is always ready to help him. No noticeable, visible differences appear in the environment, and thus it is impossible to sense this Noble Phantasm by normal means.

In other words, Assassin does not create or bring a favorable environment with him. The environment around just is favorable.

    Fête Des Fous
Title: The World is Full of Fools
    Rank: EX
    Type: ??
    Range: 2000
    Maximum Target: ??

    A city devoured by madness.

When his only true Noble Phantasm is released, Assassin engulfs the whole area he is in into a mad world, a perversion of the city he is in at that moment. It is the greatest feat and festival those scorned and shunned, the fest of fools that was once celebrated everywhere, in honor of those not part of the actual society.

The area is turned into festival of madness and goofiness, and people caught in it find themselves behaving like fools. This applies to everyone, even the Master of Assassin. Only one who does not seem to be affected is Assassin himself, as in order to activate this Noble Phantasm, he has to appoint himself as the “King of Fools”, the master of ceremonies when it comes to feast of fools.

The effects of this Noble Phantasm are like a rebellion or revolution. Everything is turned upside-down. The strongest is weakest and weakest is the strongest. Inside, Assassin can challenge even the strongest of Servants without fear. While it does not change physical attributes, inside this Noble Phantasm, someone like Assassin can make fools out of those stronger than him and get away with it. Authorities and rules are disregarded, and even conceptual Noble Phantasms find their strict rules ignored and made fun of.

When deployed and used wisely, it can lead to perfect victory against a much stronger opponent.

So, basically, in exchange for giving away his true identity (not that it means much gven he is an amalgamation of others), he can basically make the world temporarily act like an old Warner Brothers cartoon with himself as Bug Bunny? That... would be pretty damn funny! He'd make for a hilarious one-shot or crackfic.

Eh, that's a bit too cartoonish example. One example would be something like Bazett activating Fragglerock the moment Assassin activates the Fête Des Fous. Instead of being erased and Assassin dying immediately, the Fête Des Fous would make fools out of Fragarach's rules and activate itself anyway, while Assassin danced around the NP, evading it.

In other words, it won't stop Bazett from punching his face in. However, she has to really work to get that one punch in.

Uh... Verg, I'm pretty sure even this NP wouldn't work like that. Not only is Fragarach older and does it have a greater mystery, it's very nature prevents stuff like that. The only reason Gae Bolg v. Fragarach works is because both NPs have strong mysteries, and their natures are inherently opposed.

It is concepts that defeat concepts, blaa-blaa-blaa. The specific function of this NP is to "Screw the rules". It is the embodiment of Feast of Fools, after all. So yeah, while Fragglerock has nature that prevents stuff like that, so does Fête Des Fous have a nature that prevents stuff like Fragglerock. And as we've seen, sometimes the "right" concept can defeat a more "powerful concept", since there are no "power-levels" in concepts.

...but there are, lol. A more powerful concept defeats a less powerful concept, unless you're the protagonist. That's how it works.

Remember Rho Aias? "The Spear of Sure Hit" against "The Shield of No Loss." Rho Aias had a stronger concept and more mystery, and won that encounter.

Oh, you mean how Rho Aius was completely destroyed and nearly killed Archer in the process? Yes, because that's.....a complete victory to the older and more powerful concept.

Ah, so basically, he becomes super lucky, and they become super unlucky.

They go to try and punch him, and accidentally slip and fall instead. He loses his balance and accidentally hits them in the nuts.

Like that Dragonball fight with Yamcha and that old man who was a disguise for Kami.

Or those movies where a baby escapes and somehow ends up crawling up a construction building, and everything just moves perfectly to have him keep going.

He never sleeps. He never dies.

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
